My memory goes back to 1963 when the country was frozen solid for four months, not one day off in fact if you were late you got the cane on the arse.

If you look at Italy vs Iran, they correlate more than Italy vs China.

Iran's wouldn't be so bad if they weren't under heavy sanctions. The continuation of those is leading to unnecessary deaths.

You are though mate, massively. If, by you continuing to go into work, it means the health and social care workers/parents can get into work and look after the ill/elderly and the shops can keep fully stocked, it’s integral role in this crisis

People proving to be worth far more than they’re paid: cleaners, care workers, healthcare workers, teachers, delivery drivers.

People proving to be worth far less: politicians, CEOs, edgy newspaper columnists

Not if we are trying to do both at the same time Steve and I have no idea what to tell both my Year 11 classes tomorrow when they ask what the point of doing any work is. That announcement just sent my workload through the roof and it was already too high. We must be the only country doing this.

I really think that if and when this pandemic is contained, there will be a fundamental rethink about how we organise the economy

Let’s be honest. There isn’t any point. Your job for the next few months is babysitting not education. Speaking of which, will they keep the skeleton service open over holidays? Do they have that power? Not sure what they’ll do over Easter/summer otherwise. I assume most people will be relying on grandparents or leave which may well be cancelled for key workers now.

Ths poor women and men on the tills at supermarkets as well, getting a constant flow of people in close proximity not knowing whether theyve got corona or not (and getting paid pretty much minimal wage). Fair play to them

To make it interesting I also have a Year 13 group, all of whom have spent most of the year earning university offers and so for them I can only imagine this is even more demotivating. Tonight I have 2 sets of marking, 2 lessons to plan, some risk assessments to write and a ton of stuff to put on Teams for the kids who have been off. Better get cracking

Yes! And warehouse workers. The real backbone of this country are a host of hard working people with little workplace protections. I really hope they’re remembered in the aftermath of this.

And the way it's been reported is that Branson is backing Peter Norris' s call for a bail out by lobbying the government.

I can give you other reasons why he's a walk if you want?

Either keep them open or shut them entirely. This half way proposal with schools struggling for staffing as it is, is going to leave us unable to adequately cater for both groups of children. I fully get the difficulties involved for childcare arrangements but I am already being asked to provide digital lessons from home and to do that alongside in school provision is nearly impossible. It isn't fair, sorry to sound fussy or for those on here who are in the health service and have kids at school.

We want to do the best by our students and we will really struggle to do that with these arrangements.

Isn’t it about doing what is best for the entire population, which includes keeping key workers working.

I have put my own wellbeing on the backburner this academic year just because of the workload-now it's been for nothing. And we're about to be asked to work twice as hard. I am having a pint on Friday afternoon come hell or high water

It’s not been for nothing mate. You know that. It’s about more than the grade at the end and 4/5 of your classes will be back next year.

If I were you I’d go full bad supply teacher for the next two days, get the DVDs and games on, then get plastered, don’t even think about marking or planning until Monday morning.

I always make an effort of having a chat and thanking them on the tills (used to work on the provisions/deli at Asda as a kid) and made a special point of saying it’s really appreciated to the lady serving me yesterday.....as I wedged my 24th pack of bogroll back into the trolley
(Last bits a joke, no shitroll left yesterday !)
