CCFC/Ipswich/Hull summer recruitment thread. (4 Viewers)

Saying it again, Ipswich have done better than us in the market. And are evidently still going

As sparks says above weve done good business but nowhere near enough of it
Of the players who they’ve signed, who are you envious of?

It sounds like you’re more envious of the amount of activity rather than the quality tbh.

Enciso
Diop
Emersonn (but thats because we are in dire need of a striker)

We will do less volume because we don’t need as much but I am confident we we’ll end the window doing better business than Ipswich.
Suppose we end up with:
- Tomori
- Moura/Bueno
- Mudryk

We will have won the transfer window out of the promoted teams and it wouldn’t even be close.

Imo based on needs add a striker and comfortably yes. Add in Gomes and we’re taking the piss

Emersonn? Maybe has potential but scored 6 in the French league… I’d 100% back Haji to beat that in the Prem, let alone in Ligue 1.

As for Enciso, over 4-5 years could be a solid player. Hamer’s one season in the Prem was a lot better than Enciso’s career to date in terms of g/a. Again, mostly in the French league.

I like Diop and on the face of it, better than Amenda. If we signed Tomori, that’s a better signing imo.

They’re active, I don’t think they’ve particularly got a lot of quality there.

100% - we haven’t had a solid link to a striker yet so won’t name a fantasy player. The links to Mudryk, Mudryk, and Tomori won’t go away so there’s probably something there.

Angel Gomes is going to be a superb pickup for £6-7m if it comes to fruition. We’re getting good value so far without disrupting the team too much.

Ipswich need to integrate all of these new signings whilst being a promoted side, that’s not an amazing sign and other parachute payment sides haven’t needed to go this crazy before.

I cant believe people dont want us to sign a new striker.

Im sure they do, but there are other positions more important ahead of it, plus who is available at a decent price and that's any good?

Not really a question for me.

The suggestion there is NOBODY that we could afford that would improve us is a bit hard to believe though

Do you seriously believe we will sign those 3?
I wouldn’t be surprised if they joined because they’re all sensible move for all parties involved. As always, there’s a lot of moving parts to get the deals done.

Yirenkyi came out nowhere so hoping we’re going about our business like a duck swimming.

Plenty more?? They’ve already spent £160m

Makes a mockery of the planks on here claiming we will spend £26.50

The money for promotion is insane, aside from the TV money every other avenue of revenue goes up 4 fold. We will make a few sales netting us a few million but there is no reason why we cant throw another 40 odd million around

Tbf though, they are taking the piss a bit. I'm assuming they are trying more of a Forest than a Sunderland. By that I mean knowing they are breaking rules but hoping to get punished next season and stay up.

Hilarious some posters think they’re suddenly financial experts, as if our recruitment model is ‘simple arithmetic’

Unlike the other listed teams, Ipswich have Prem money and parachutes in their accounts for SCR. I’m sure they’ll get pinched for something though,
It seems rather excessive to be honest.

It’ll be hilarious when they go down.

I'll throw a party. They are on my shit list.

With having the extra rolling 30% they will be well within the amount they're able to spend. 160m on transfers is only 40m a year over 4 years leaving the rest for wages.

Their problem would be if they manage to stay up. They won't able to strengthen much.

Just seen that Mark Ashton is chief exec at Ipswich, never realised before - IMO he sanctioned loads of pretty bad deals when in same role at Bristol City. A lot of their fans were scathing about his track record, signed lots of average or disappointing players on high wages which made the club stagnate for several years. Let's hope he does the same at Ipswich :)

Same as last year when people were fawning over Blues/Stoke transfer business because they signed 10+ players - never stopped to think whether the players were actually of the required quality

Perfect analogy imo.

Signing lots of players isn’t necessarily a good sign either. Gary O’Neill has clearly come in, seen the current group isn’t where it needs to be.

Ipswich have to integrate a whole squad and a new style of play which can take time. I do wonder if any promoted side has survived after changing their manager in preseason.

Taking off my sky blue glasses I just can't see past all 3 promoted sides coming back down with their squads as is. Hull look like they're in for a serious spanking, unless their manager can pull more rabbits out of hats.
Have you looked at some of the other squads?

We will spend that IMO

You can already see evidence of Ashton sanctioning a lot of poor deals in the last 2 seasons. Jury's out whether they've learned lessons this summer, but it strikes me as the throw enough shit at the wall and hope it sticks approach

Ipswich don't seem like a well run club - which is weird to say about a club who have won promotion in 3 of the last 4 years. They were riding on the coat-tails of a very good manager in Mckenna who I think will establish himself as a PL manager after his break

Yes. As ours stands at the moment, I don't see who we're finishing above outside the promoted teams.
It isn't just the squads. Several sides are going into the season with a new manager. Others have less of a budget through playing in Europe. A couple have both.

Most of our squad has been together for ages and know how each other prefer to play, ànd we've also added quality to this.

I'm sure you're going to be pleasantly surprised.

Let's take palace similar ISH size ground and last year's figures they posted 2025 accounts they had revenue of around £200m and posted an £8m profit. They've also been in the PL donkeys years. There's big money in the PL but no profit.

If you go down straight away you only get two years of PP.

Once again, the 'new manager' point isn't really that much of a credible argument. It's one variable of several for why a team might struggle this season.

If you look at managerial sacking numbers over the past 10 years in the PL the average sits at an average of around 10 per season. So it's not really outside of the norm except they've seemingly all come at one time rather than have been more spread out.

Plus the other outlier this season is 5 of the top 6 have had new managers in the past 6 months. They're going to be nowhere near relegation this season though so it won't affect us.

But again, for the likes of Palace/Newcastle which might struggle this season, managers can be sacked quickly if they're not delivering the results. Spurs and Forest are prime examples of that last season.

There'll also be some which surpass expectations - see Keith Andrews at Brentford last season.

As it stands we still need to add a left back, another CB, another LW, probably another forward.

You have to judge things based on how they are right now and right now, Newcastle, Palace etc have stronger squads.
