I remember actually crying the first time I saw the co-pilot in Airplane.
Especially the scene when he flies the plane away at the end.

Don't think it would be as funny with a rewatch though, and not convinced they'll be able to replicate that type of comedy now with this remake
Are they remaking it AOM? Hmm, always wary of remakes, whatever the subject. Comedy wise, only think of disasters when something so old is done again, like Bilko or the Pink Panther, which is a shame because I quite like Steve Martin in original stuff.

Watched Airport 1975 the other day, it was on Legend or something, I'd seen it as a kid in the cinema so watched for nostalga. Quite a few moments when I laughed thinking of the Airplane scenes, like the stewardess playing the guitar or Captain Kramer being a micky take of Heston. I think it holds up pretty well as a slapstick kind of comedy and it led to Police Squad being made which I loved, but you're right how people and times change, we tend these days to appreciate more sophisticated comedies for their word play.
Yeah, like Mrs. Brown's Boys. 🤪

Sorry they're remaking Naked Gun, not Airplane.

Hopefully they leave Airplane well alone but I wouldn't be surprised if the new film is a success

Half way through Heads Of State on Prime, starring Idris Elba and John Cena.

Great, dumb, popcorn fun.

Well, so far anyway.

Leave your brain at home.

I wasn’t sure where to post this but I’ve been looking out for it for ages and it’s coming to Cardiff. Can’t wait.

Two cases in and the new series of 24hrs in Police Custody continues to be extremely difficult viewing, but incredibly sensitively and well done.

Without doubt the best in this genre of fly on the wall crime series.

Just caught up with the final series of Squid Game.
Seen the ending has been getting some stick online, but I thought it was actually okay.
Was always going to be hard to live up to the first series when the mysterious "games" were what was most exciting about it.

Not looking forward the hints towards a potential American spin off though...

The plot was a bit stupid imo. The 2nd series was good but felt the 3rd series struggled to tie up the story because the plot fragmented from a single protagonist.

We knew if he didn’t do ‘x’, then ‘y’ was going to happen. There was an interesting twist but even then that didn’t make too much sense imo. Sat watching I felt a bit disappointed.

I’ve kept it deliberately vague to avoid spoilers.

Yeah I do know what you mean. The dialogue didn't feel as good this series - Gi-hoon must only have said about 5 words per episode.
The boat storyline really dragged for about two series as well until the final episode.

Overall I did enjoy it, but it peaked in the first series where it was purely about the games imo.

Spoilers - Couldn't get past that weird CGI baby either...

Surviving Black Hawk Down.

A three part mini series about the Yanks failed mission to take out the rival faction leader General Aidid in Somalia which led to two of their Black Hawk’s being shot down on the same night.

Excellently put together with real life accounts from not only the soldiers who were there but also their families and really interesting the accounts from both the opposition fighters and the innocent civilians caught in the middle of it as well as the only journalist in Mogadishu with a camera which shows real life footage from the two day battle.

If recent military history is your thing then I’d definitely recommend!

Red Riding Trilogy.

Just about to drop on Netflix.

Based on the books of the same name, written by David Peace who did the Damned United.

Originally released in the mid 90`s, so a lot will have missed it first time around.

Follows a young reporter in West Yorkshire, as he covers the Yorkshire Ripper murders and in doing so, he stumbles into a web of corrupt land development deals, involving local councillors, the police, who are also involved in child abduction / abuse and murder.

One of the all time great British crime dramas and I go as far as to say, in terms of quality it`s as good as series one of True Detective.

It`s unrelentingly bleak, dark as anything and the subject matter at times is really not for the faint hearted, but the writing and acting is sublime, with an ensemble British cast and Sean Bean giving the performance of his lifetime, as a bent councillor with a penchant for young girls.

Watched the first 2 episodes over the weekend. First one didn't really work for me as I haven't seen the series it was doing a crossover with , second episode was very good and had a feel of some of the earlier series . Hopefully it will continue . as the last couple of series have been hit and miss in my opinion

10 years late to the party, but just started watching Better Call Saul.
Not sure how I missed this 1st time around, but really enjoying it.
There are parts of the first two seasons which are almost comically slow, but by the end it’s hitting peak Breaking Bad levels every episode.

The writing and casting is exceptional.

Some of the supporting cast are as good as Saul - Mike and Kim in particular.

Yeah that's part of it I reckon, it had a lot of fantastical parts that were verging a bit towards comic book. BCS is a slower and more measured pace which is 100% a positive but also why I probably won't rewatch it whereas I've recently redone Breaking Bad.

Having gone through it twice that last season of BB, while still great, brought the average down a bit.

I thought the last season of BB was brilliant, and one of the best ways a series has been tied up.

I found El Camino unnecessary

Can't really disagree with that, I think the second half of the last season is up there with nearly anything TV can offer (Ozymandias in particular one of the best episodes of anything ever) but the first half for me was a bit of a hangover from Fring no longer being such a big part of it.

I remember enjoying El Camino at the time but I can't remember a single thing about it, just one of those things where it's disposable but always a welcome treat to revisit that world.

Yep agree with that. Had to set up the big bad though with Fring gone. I actually thought the neo nazi’s made good villains, although clearly the big bad that season was Walt himself

I rate it above Breaking Bad overall, although I concede recency bias may be talking a bit there.
I think BCS trades so heavily off the Breaking Bad lore (understandably so) that it’s hard to make the comparison. The former couldn’t exist without the latter, don’t know what it would have been like as a purely standalone show.

'Telstar - The Joe Meek Story'. Great film. Funny, tragic Historically (British music) very informative.
Really worth a watch. Only recently caught up with it.
Great ending.
