Bassette started most of Lampard’s first 11 or so games and now he’s not even getting on the bench for a League Cup tie where all the starters were rested.
It’s not looking good and frankly, signing 2 strikers last summer was a big mistake.

Common sense is saying that if he’s not being selected in preseason nor a rotated LC game when there’s no injuries or suspensions (Wright was out for Betis and he was still not selected at all), it paints a picture that he’s being punished for something and/or being bombed out.

Lampard lost it when some game last season in the dying seconds (Portsmouth?) when he faked a dive and rolled around feigning a bad injury. The ref could have stopped the game and Thomas scored in the follow up.

That’s interesting, a very similar thing happened a couple of times with the lad and me (thanks the M5!) towards the end of last seas: arrived later than hoped and saw Bassette getting to the ground.I got to the first game of the season later than normal. Was parking up at 12.10 and word came over the security walkie talkie that gates to parking needed to be opened up as Norman had just arrived. So I’m not sure what the rules are around squad players watching games when not playing, but it felt really late to be pitching up and the first thing I thought of was a players discipline over time keeping. Might be perfectly normal but the security guys seemed really surprised. This could be the sort of behaviour Lampard doesn’t accept or it could be completely fine and therefore bullshit made up by me. As I got to the ground Eccles was having some pictures with fans and looked like he was trying to get somewhere quick… are injured or out of favour players even part of the match buildup… I’ve no idea!!
