He's quite clearly being frozen out. I'd imagine soon he will be training with the 18's if hes not gone. Lampard has got form of bomb squadding players.

He played the first half of the friendly against Bristol Rovers and did nothing. You would think that he would be desperate to impress but he really looked ordinary and I don’t think he has featured since.

They just seem unable to grasp the concept of a player being dropped. Coming up with conspiracy theories about Sheaf and Bassette because they weren’t in the team/squad

There always seems to have to be a showbiz reason for a player being dropped.
It was like the "is Simms going because he didn't celebrate in a pre-season game?" question.

Feels like answering questions that have been raised from Facebook comments

He’s one of the most overrated players to have played for us, which says a lot. The comparisons with Vik were always weird.
He looked very good in a couple of his early performances, but the prolonged run in the side he had either wasn't advisable based on where he is in his development, or found him out.

I'm not sure which, tbh, but I think it's very likely Lampard thinks its the latter.

Like rifts between players because they weren't holding hands when they got off the coach or is someone not talking to the others because they were listening to their headphones. 😂

Agreed. Bassette isn’t being frozen out. He’s just a long way down the queue. Again, a remarkably odd and unbalanced signing from the Robins era. Over £1m on a fourth choice CF when we had holes all over the defence.

From the Robins-Austin era at best. Since Doug’s come in I’m not sure how much blame you can place on first team coaches for the squad makeup.

It's not a massive fee for a development player. I'm sure they thought they could develop him into something more when he was signed. He's still only 19, so potential for a good career for him whether here or somewhere else.

For me he needs to bulk up a bit (somewhat like Vik did) if he's going to be successful. His finishing also needs a lot of work. Wonder if he'll eventually become a winger.

The fee was £2.1m rising to £2.8m just to be clear. We paid less for: Collins, Dasilva, Thomas, Lats, Sheaf, Torp, Sakamoto

Indeed, although there's a premium to pay on strikers, and none of those were 18 year olds either. Not saying he's been good value, just that there's logic if you believe there is development potential.

It is a massive fee when you have three starters ahead of him if all are fit.
Was a little bit strange at the time, yes. Ideally if you'd wanted him as a development player when you play one up front you'd want him to be third choice (and have realistic opportunity to play).

Yes, very possibly. But I still can’t believe there is a vast difference between Bassette and say, Obikwu? Plus if he saw Wright as his starter left side why not pay the £2m on a development left winger rather than 5m on EMC. For me the recruitment at that time was, at best, muddled.

He's a couple of years younger than Obikwu and played at a higher level, to be fair.

I don’t think there’s any evidence Robins wanted him. It wasn’t until he’d gone that man whose name I’ve already forgotten started him regularly. He didn’t even make the bench in Robins final game.

I agree with that

Bassette started against Swansea in the league. I doubt he personally would have asked for him because that's mental, there's no way he'd have known about him, but he definitely had final say on pulling the trigger.

He is 21 in November.

Tbf Robins saw Wright as a left sided player.
When we were playing 3-4-1-2? I don't think so. Sakamoto was brought in as a RWB who can slot in at AM. Which is why after Sakamoto gets injured post-PNE, we play 3-4-1-2 again quite few times.

The recruitment issues haven't moved on from when we played that formation because we don't have numbers out wide.
