We beat the worst defensive team in the division 3-2 and suddenly people are expecting us to hammer Barnsley?

I love how carried away this place gets.

Anyway....4-1 City win

as I’ve said our owners are like smack heads they’ll sell anything, the council own 50% of the ground to stop people like these selling it. It’s doing what it’s designed to do. And because they want their grubby little mits on it, they’re playing games.

They hadn’t conceded a league goal before we played them!

Reminds me of Tranmere's claims that they were deliberately shit first half of the season but then would have turned into 1970s Brazil after season was halted.

I like the claim that Barnsley did what they needed to do which would indicate they secretly brought Wigan and sent them into administration.

I also like how he keeps on biting.

But how can you keep selling decent strikers if you're not replacing them? To keep selling them you have to keep producing/buying them.

Otherwise the chain of events would be:
1. Sell decent striker
2. Don't replace him
3. Have no decent striker to sell

I think it will be a tougher game than some seem to think on here - I am predicting a 2-1 win for City but would certainly take a point away from home too and nearly predicted a 1-1 scoreline.

I think knowing Robins and barring injuries he will be likely to field and unchanged side from the side the beat qpr.

So think side will be.

we tend to sign players at 20 years old on 4 year contract spend a season developing them, get a year out of them at a decent standard, then sell them. We never sign players that are up to first team football, this season we’ve Marsh and Simoes coming though they’ll be decent next season then be sold. But this season we’re going to struggle along with inexperienced kids.

Having just watched the highlights from every game Barnsley have played this season, It's fair too say, there will be plenty of loose balls being played in their half, their defence goes to pieces with a bit of pressure, they play neat football but can't hit a cows arse with a banjo. I fully expect one of their defence to be sent off after a loose ball is intercepted and O'Hare is bearing in on goal.

Comfortable 3-0 win. O'Hare x 2 & Hamer freekick.

So realy its going to be 2-0 to Barnsley isn't it....

At least your old owners retained some ownership of the ground. I assume they won’t let the council screw you over if they fall out with the your current owners

I'm predicting our first clean sheet of the season with McCallum getting a shock start as Robins looks to strengthen the left side, harsh on Giles but he will be introduced as a sub after 70 mins and provide the cross for Walker to get a late winner in a tight game. 1-0 to City.

2-2 Draw.

They will no doubt finally score from the many chances they get and create . Law of averages.
But on the other hand we will score also.

Id definately play Sheaf in for Shipley.

Allen keeps his place. Tactics should be soak up some pressure (keep a good shape and and hit then on counter when they over commit.

Be definately looking for some height in the team for set pieces.

Sam slots in on the bench ahead of Mason.

If McCallum starts ahead of Giles then I can see that upsetting the apple cart.

Personally would go for the same team as the last game. I do really want Shipley away from that CDM role though.

That's largely the model we use. Develop and sell hoping to be able to improve overall as a result. It's the same for all but the very top clubs who are at the pinnacle and whose only aim can be to maintain their current level.

Most clubs are loss making and need to cover those shortfalls, so only a proportion of any fees received can be reinvested. You can't expect to pick up a like-for-like replacement for less money. If you could surely the other team would've bought that player instead of yours?

So that means having to by someone cheaper who is therefore either going to be unproven to be developed or a gamble in some way such as injuries etc. If you'd spent the money buying a like-for-like replacement you'd have spent all the money received on a gamble as it's never certain if a player will be a success for various factors. Look at Chaplin - has done a decent job for you but just didn't work for him here.

Plus those players that you've brought and developed and have since proven themselves and then been sold on wouldn't have done so because they wouldn't have played if you'd bought a like for like replacement.

How can you conclude that they are the worst defensive team in the division? They've only played 2 games, one of which they won 2-0, and they have a goal difference of +1... that makes no sense at all

After playing well in the first two opening games I doubt Giles will be dropped for McCallum straight off the bat. What would that do for his confidence?

I suspect McCallum will be utilised against 'better quality' opposition who are more of a threat going forward.

I would take a point but we could really do with all three considering the next few opponents.

October is a savage month for fixtures, with the next four games being Bournemouth, Brentford, Swansea & Blackburn. I think we'll be lucky to get anything, 3-4 points would be a good return.

1-1 (O'Hare)

Remember 4-3 at Ricoh under Mowbray?
They had been on their uppers for months.
We managed to concede 3 goals and kick start their season. Ugh

It’s an advantage to have that block of games so early on, even if you come out the other side having been beaten 4 times, you’ll have improved with game time, gained valuable experience, and got them out of the way.

It could be, yes. IF we win tomorrow, plus manage to pick up a win or even a couple of draws through those 4 games. We will be hovering around mid table or at least a few places clear of relegation.

Really feel for Mason. Talented lad with a great attitude just a victim of circumstance with the formation change. Really hope he finds a club he can call home and show his talents off.

Like with Westbrooke, he gets a regular run of games and applies the same attitude at his next club, it wouldn't surprise me at all if he's snapped up by a Championship club in a couple of years.

It would therefore be in the club's interest to perhaps agree a deal whereby a sell-on clause is requested rather than a fee.

Actually wouldn’t surprise me at all if McCallum starts. Not saying he should / shouldn’t — just wouldn’t be at all surprised (and yes, that’d be harsh on Giles).
