Whats odd is people assuming any loan keeper will be guaranteed to be decent. Im pointing out they might not be.
Nobody is saying they are guaranteed to be decent. People are saying that Wilson and Collins are that shit, they'd rather try their luck getting a decent loan keeper than not try at all. What is so hard to understand about that?

I am hoping the next signings we make are loans from chelsea who are not back from the world club cup for a week or so.
Their young winger George would be a phenomenal signing and there are a couple of others who would be realistic options too. We have a manager that's it's prestigious to play for and a great group of professionals to play with. If Frank can persuade Chelsea a couple of players are better developed with us for a season we will be a serious threat to everyone we play.

A couple of things I’ve considered regarding our current situation:
1. The club did well to exploit Villas needs to raise funds for FFP and I think have committed funds from the future realisation of Viks move.
2. DK has turned a £15m loan into shares, which is a significant commitment and stabilised day to day operational spending
3. As fans we tend to assume that transfer fees received can be allocated to expenditure on new players, whilst forgetting that all championship clubs run at a loss of circa £10m +.
4. Any information “leaking” from the club saying we’re skint is a helpful tactic in transfer negotiations, if it’s untrue.
5. FL has a full preseason to work with the squad he’s inherited and I am optimistic that he can improve the underperforming players (the only exception being Collins, who raises my stress level to maximum by being selected).

Probably not groundbreaking info, but the issue is no ones attracted even a bid yet. Not even Milan

Ive been told this morning that unless its frees or loans, no one else is coming in until we've offloaded some

Probably because we are in such a strong negotiating position. Most of our players on long contracts with no pressure to sell.. also tells you that the players are happy here and not pushing to move

Most Champ teams right now will be focusing on where they can find value (free agents, players with 12 months left, cheaper players in Europe, teams in FFP trouble)

I doubt any of our players are top of anyone's list to bring in - but as targets move on/fall through & teams get more desperate they'll start showing firmer interest I think

Collins is so terrible that people are now convincing themselves that Wilson is good enough. I don’t want to go into the season with either in goal. Just loan a keeper, simple
Wilson is sufficient in our current scenario. Dovin will be back November time. Theres no point in wasting a squad position on a goalkeeper that is an unknown quantity

I would prefer what I would class as a stronger option but I’m not as down as most it appears with Wilson
I’d agree with this - Wilson is alright to keep us going until Dovin returns
Wilson is an accident waiting to happen. If we want to progress we need better and maybe have some real competition for Dovin when he’s back
wilson is no worse than any other championship keeper - it’s clear our funds are limited as are the available squad places. Whatever funds we do have need to be diverted to a centre back or a right winger to challenge Sakamoto

If that was true I'd be happy with keeping Wilson in the side. But if every keeper was similar to Wilson we would have been gifted the same amount of goals as Wilson has gifted our opponents.

I can't see us getting another GK in unless we can get rid of one first. Our GK wage bill must be at its highest ever. Maybe Dovin is closer to coming back than we think.

And if Wilson gets injured or suspended or suffers a lack of form what do we do then ? or if Dovin suffers a set back in his recovery

are we seriously suggesting we go into the season with Wilson ( one good season in his entire career ) and Collins ( enough said ) or a youngster ???

I agree, in my opinion the only way we are getting another goalie in is if we sell one first. It's very rare for a team at our sort of level to carry 4 senior goalies, even 3 is a push. Ideally we'd want to offload Collins but Collins might be thinking he may have a chance of starting games (with him probably being the current number 2 behind Wilson whilst Dovin is out and Wilson being quite injury prone). I can't see Dovin recovering from an ACL this side of Christmas but we'll see.

You are using first choice keepers. Ours isnt Wilson. If any of those got injured are all of their second choices better than Wilson too?
He's replying to the post saying Wilson is no worse than any other championship goalkeeper.

He has listed Championship goalkeepers better than him.

But its not a fair comparison is it. If Dovin wasnt injured Wilson wouldnt be playing, same as every other teams second choice. its like saying we shouldnt start Simms because there are 20 better strikers than him in the division

Right, except we know our keeper is out for some time with an ACL and we are at a stage in the season (before it) where we have an opportunity to do something about it. It would be negligent not to.

It wasn't a simple comparison. As was said it was in reply to someone saying Wilson is no worse than any other Championship GK. If it was said any second choice GK then I would be in full agreement with you.

Wilson is a much better personality around in the dressing room than player on the pitch. If we want to start the season well we can't be turning wins into draws due to Wilson simply not being at the level we need. Same with Collins.

Goalkeepers like strikers can win or lose games and we need one who will win us points not throw them in the bin.

Sorry if that sounds harsh but both he and Collins are both simply not good enough for anything other than an emergency and definitely not being first choice for nearly a third of the season!!

Wilson kept 20 clean sheets 2/3 seasons ago. He’s a passable goalkeeper to keep it solid until Dovin comes back.

I’ve not said there isn’t better keepers than him in the league - my point was merely that he’s an average championship keeper. I clearly worded it poorly.

There’s no need to splash cash we don’t really on a keeper when there’s more pressing concerns

now if we’d had Collins as the replacement - I’d be very concerned, and would agree we need a new keeper

Yeah and FGR has that mad vegan wind factory grifter as an owner, I'd be happier if we could find a different club at that level. Also they have Robbie Savage managing them. 🤭
Nonsense, it's a fine move for him. They are a well run club with an identity. Just seem to annoy people because of the vegan thing. Savage is unproven but excelled at Macclesfield so deserves a chance
