Who else does Esse play for?I don’t think Lampard want his winger’s first priority is covering their WBs when they get forward… Besides, if what you say is true, why has MVE got more assists without Sakamoto than with this season?
Sakamoto is an above average winger in this division so he’d comfortably start for most teams. That said, is he better than Whittaker, Joseph, Azeez or Esse? These are the wingers the team around us have.
Is it a surprise, therefore, that we’ve signed two RW who seem a lot more attacking than Sakamoto?
While MVE is forward getting the assists, sakamoto covers him, works back, not saying he’s brilliant but always puts a shift in, unlike some, did really well when he came on last night, prob won’t start in front of esse but there’s not many better than saka in this league
@AFCCOVENTRY where did you read that
The games Esse’s played he drifts all over the place, it’s good he’s got that but gives MVE nightmares, he’s got the game to play anywhere, that flick for wright was class,One area we have potential in is Rudoni and Esse combining. Both can play wide or drift inside to the 10 role. If they can work together and rotate positions freely during a game that really does give the opposition marking problems. It increases their chances of finding space out wide and the the penalty area.
It’s relatively easy to mark a player who is playing in a fixed role and a fixed position. Once they start rotating and roaming it becomes far more difficult. You either have to pass them on to another defender which is difficult in real time or go man to man. Man to man means you can just walk someone into no mans land and create space for someone else.
They knew the calf injury would put him out for sometime. If he needed an op on his shoulder they would have done it then. They wouldn’t gamble with so much season left or even his future fitness and career, too big an asset to the club.He was still working on it when he was rehabbing after calf injury although said it was ok now but unless you get surgery Im pretty sure dislocating shoulder again remains a risk. Maybe it’s just where he’s been asked to play but he’s not attacked the box in the same way as last season
He said he’d be surprised if there wasn’t anymoreTurner
I included him as a comparison to Sakamoto…Who else does Esse play for?
The last time I checked, he was joint top with Moore this season too and they were ahead by 2 iirc so at worst, Simms probably 2nd in the league.Simms got one of the highest totals of headed goals of any striker in the league last season I think
If no one leaves we'll be paying them to come into Ryton and train, nothing else. The squad is full now. Will be more signings apparently, Going to be a busy week. Will be a few leaving I suspect as well.
But that is where fullbacks and other midfielders need to be less adventurous and switched on. He has gone or pushed on so I need to holdback or I need to drop in behind and cover. I’m not being funny but I could understand that as a 13 or 14 year old footballer. The games Esse’s played he drifts all over the place, it’s good he’s got that but gives MVE nightmares, he’s got the game to play anywhere, that flick for wright was class,
Plenty of time for players to leave. If no one leaves we'll be paying them to come into Ryton and train, nothing else. The squad is full now.
Is Dovin registered for the season? If no one leaves we'll be paying them to come into Ryton and train, nothing else. The squad is full now.
Still expected back before end of season, they will want him registered in case he is as if anything happens to Rushworth he is a better bet than Wilson. Is Dovin registered for the season?
If he has had a setback in his recovery as is believed to be the case can he not be unregistered to open up a slot

If management dont think he will be ready before season end they will deregister him.He is/was.
If he is still not back in training at nearly the beginning of Feb, he will be fit at best for what the last 4 or 5 games? Seems a bit pointless to meStill expected back before end of season, they will want him registered in case he is as if anything happens to Rushworth he is a better bet than Wilson.
It's the time of the window when experienced Championship players such as Bidwell become more attractive to teams looking for numbers and experience.
Maybe, but as things currently stand it's a risk they are willing to take. If you can have him for those games if need which wiull al be massive games then it's much better to have him than Wilson. If he is still not back in training at nearly the beginning of Feb, he will be fit at best for what the last 4 or 5 games? A goalie of Dovin's calibre is not going to waste his time playing in non-leagueYes he could be unregistered wth the senior squad but remain registered with the club. He could still play for the under 21’s to rehabilitate after injury but not for the first team this season.
That may suite both parties. But I suppose there is a potential psychological risk with Dovin coming back from such a serious injury. If he is match fit towards end of the season I assume you could loan him out on a short term loan to a none league club.
That is like saying he wouldn’t waste his time playing for the under 21 side as part of his rehabilitation. If it aids his recovery and gets him match sharp so he can hit the ground running in pre season next year, he will.A goalie of Dovin's calibre is not going to waste his time playing in non-league
Mate he is not going to go and play for some nothing club like Solihull Moors or Woking for the sake of it, he has played for the Swedish National side before do you not think he might see himself as a bit above thatThat is like saying he wouldn’t waste his time playing for the under 21 side as part of his rehabilitation. There’s not a chance in hell that Dovin plays non-league. It’s a completely different game down there, and not worth the risk either. Far better just playing for the u21sThat is like saying he wouldn’t waste his time playing for the under 21 side as part of his rehabilitation. Still convinced it’s just “ we’ll score more than you” and we’ll keep playing that way, but you’d of thought at this level you’ve got to be able to defend in games that you probably aren’t going to win, still can’t believe after nearly 3 seasons our back 4 play like they don’t even know each other, just don’t get it ?But that is where fullbacks and other midfielders need to be less adventurous and switched on. He has gone or pushed on so I need to holdback or I need to drop in behind and cover. I’m not being funny but I could understand that as a 13 or 14 year old footballer.
As a team you need to give your most naturally gifted and creative players as much freedom as possible. Why put them in a straight jacket. For instance Torp can stay deeper and cover, because he ain’t got the legs or pace to get caught up field. He can still do his stuff at corners and free kicks. He can still be a threat on the edge of the box if someone else takes a corner.
It is about maximising players strengths and negating weaknesses.
You joke but that's the shape of us when teams hit us in on the break
Exactly the same feeling.Signing someone in a position that seemed totally unnecessary actually has me pretty positive we're signing players in more necessary positions also. Don't let me down Doug.
