25/26 January Transfer Window (71 Viewers)

Surely the whole point of a transfer window is to make the starting XI better, not just pad out the bench. Look at the business we’ve done, both in the summer and January. Almost every player we’ve brought in feels like backup. On a good day, most of them still wouldn’t get into the strongest lineup. Rushworth aside, are we honestly saying Woolfy, KKH, Mini, Brau or now Markelo would be first-choice? Because I don’t see it. There’s been some chat about Esse, but from what we’ve actually seen so far he’s decent going forward and pretty much anonymous defensively. And defending is a massive part of how our wingers are supposed to play. You can’t just ignore that side of the game. So after all those moves, are we actually any better off than we were before? I’m struggling to see it.
I think our starting 11 early season was pretty much enough but injuries and too many under performers now it's clear we need another cm who can do an actual job, because torp is not capable.

Especially if we're going to play 424, grimes needs help when they break.

Is it a coincidence that it's the same people who 24 hours ago were whinging and complaining that Doug won't pay for any transfers, that are now whinging and complaining about signing a player because it's not the one they want. We all know we need a CM as minimal. We have 5 days to still achieve that minimum. Becoming so spoilt we can't even get excited about signing a young winger for still one of our highest ever transfer fees. It's disgraceful really.

Disgraceful. Talk about an overreaction.

It is. If someone complained about us making a 4 million signing not even 5 years ago, you'd call them an idiot. We couldn't even imagine we would do such a thing. Now people are saying it's a waste before the guys even been seen on the training pitch. It's embarrassing entitlement. Sign of the modern age sadly.

Haven't seen anyone saying its a waste?

This idea we should ignore where we are because where we've been previously is pretty silly too.

Not sure if people are complaining, more so that there's other positions that are more pressing. Obviously there's a few days left in the window and these might be addressed. I think with the rumours of limited funds, then it seems more of a confusing signing

I don't really get the complaining about signing what seems to be a talented winger just yet.

If we sign a midfielder before the window ends then I'd say we've done some decent business.
However if we end up signing no one else, I'd have to agree that signing a winger when we've already brought in 2 prior to him this window is a bit of a mess.

Still a few days left on the window and we know we always do business late, so for now I'm happy enough.

Some missing point - no one is disappointed we are planning ahead for example with this signing, timing may have dictated.

but it’s at a time when are are desperate for here and now, desperate. To help us get promoted, in what is likely our best ever shot for foreseeable, and suspect the worry is, like me, that we’re putting funds into this at expense of 2 others we are crying out for now.

Time will tell, in Doug we trust……..5 days left.

It was a lovely Satsuma to be fair.
Bit of useless information, but satsuma, which is a Japanese name does not mean small orange in Japan, instead they are from the area of Satsuma. In addition, the only time Japanese use satsuma in with sweet potato which is satsumaimo. I state this in case you want to give Sakamoto a present because if you say Saka, here's a satsuma he will expect a sweet potato.

They you go a waste of two minutes of your life :)

Not disappointed we’ve spent money but concerned with the squad planning. Doug, To his credit, often mentions how hard it is to compete with some teams in this league. So with our finite resources, is this three right wing players (four if you include Rapha) the best use?

He could be brilliant but that’s leaving wages we could use for other players potentially not even on the bench. Similar to us having three leftback that prevents us getting one in that we really need.

I just don’t get it but the picture will hopefully become clear in the next couple of days.

This latest signing wasn't decided yesterday, this was a player identified and a deal worked on for a while. It doesn't mean we haven't been working on a CM or any other signings, just means this deal was ready to announce yesterday.

I hope we announce a CM or a LB and see a few being moved on. But all targets will take different lengths of time to negotiate and they don't always fall into a timeline that from the outside makes sense. It certainly doesn't work that way, things take time and some just don't or cant get done.

Few days left and no doubt we will hear from Doug.

Squad planning is actually a reason to make this signing. Come the summer we have 2 loan players going back and Sakamoto on 1 year remaining on his contract.

I don't think anyone is ignoring where we are now at all. We are top of the league. In fact some fans on twitter seem to be the ones forgetting that.

But the recent past should & does put where we are now in perspective. It is actually where we have been that will make achieving a promotion this season feel even better.

None of us are daft, we can see a CM is needed. Frank and Dean aren't daft either, I am convinced another signing will be coming in. Just got to trust them

So is this new winger any good? If we don’t bring in a midfielder then that’s a failure
