Story of 2 poor teams and a premier league quality striker really. Delighted with the result but still concerned with defence and lack of any real creativity. Bidwell and Victor the only real class. We move onwards

Take the 2 most creative midfielders out of any team in this division & they'd probably struggle to create too.
Still created more than enough to win today, that Palmer chance in the opening 5 mins was beautifully designed but poorly finished for example.

The one where Palmer took the ball off the player then got fouled, penalised and yellow carded for remonstrating was another type of special!

Back 3 very good today. Would really like to sign Panzo if we possibly can.
Can't see there being an option of buying Doyle though

I would make a jibe about Sunderland fans not knowing their arse from their elbow but in fairness he was badly used there which affected his performances.

Thought he was good today.
Says a bit about him when Robins trusts him (a 19 Yr old kid) as a left footer on the right of the three over Panzo.
(Or maybe that says more about Panzo - who I thought was a bit of an accident waiting to happen at times today... particularly the amount of times he misjudged long balls)

Jamie Allen also much better in that centre midfield position compared to when he's more of a CAM

Disagree completely. Thought Panzo was excellent bar for the vast majority today. Had a striker manhandling him all game and got nothing from the ref.

I thought Gyokeres was pretty average today - it was a poor finish that was very fortunate

Godden a complete passenger just like he is every game.

Sheaf different gravy.

Palmer is leagues above O’Hare

He wasn't "excellent" sloppy pass nearly cost us 1st half, not sure where you sit, but from the side of the pitch, the amount of times he "got under the ball" and misjudged the flight, was a worry.
Has a tendency to get the wrong side of his man too, which I've commented on previously.
He is very raw. More so than 19 year old Doyle.
He did some ok stuff today, but was nowhere near excellent.

i sit in 24, so he was right in front of me first half. He is raw, but he has some excellent attributes. He got his head to probably more than anyone else, he was easily the best on the ball of the back three, and several times he did brilliantly to keep control of a ball coming in rather than the usual lump it out for a throw.

He’s not perfect but implying he’s a liability or as someone said thinking we need two new CBs is hyperbole. This back three hasn’t conceded a goal yet FFS.

Yeah I agree, no chance of signing Doyle. Like Maatsen, I suspect he will go all the way eventually. Perhaps not with Man City but there aren’t many 18 year olds with those attributes in that position.

I thought his first touch/control was poor today. Nearly played himself into trouble several times because of it.

I think we have a number of players that at this moment, have “something” but not enough. If these “somethings” start to develop we could be ok

Agreed. Clearly a player in Panzo & he did ok in parts but quite a few errors & decision making definitely needs to be improved on.

Lots of positives from today, Wilson made some good decisions, Doyle, Panzo and Bidwell kept all in front of them and defended well.

Palmer looks like a player, Dabo played higher up the pitch and looked fitter to me. Allen found some space like he did against Brum 1st half created a problem for them. Vik is a nightmare for the opposition, get too close he turns u, give him room he goes at you. He can be unplayable at times and is just a very good player that will improve with games.

But the biggest positive is the 3 pts i think against a decent side with a good squad.

The only negative for me was the few times in the second half when high balls were misjudged in our box. On another day we could have conceded from one or another of them. But that's being a bit nit-picky, because we've improved dramatically at the back since the first few games.

And I think Palmer will turn out to be a class act for us. He just seems to have something about him. We've prided ourselves on having a tight-knit group, and the way he reacted when he got the yellow card (well, for the foul before it) shows how much he cares.

He got the yellow for kicking the ball away, which I agree was ridiculous. But I liked the fact that he was so annoyed at the foul being given.

Edit: I mean it was ridiculous of him to kick the ball away.

The great thing is we managed today's win without Hamer and O'Hare. Palmer got plenty of minutes which is needed. Another clean sheet too - I was wondering if we'd manage many of those after some of the games we looked so fragile. Gyok also stood up to the occasion today. If he wants his big move his challenge is to give us more of what we saw today and more regularly, he will be happy and we will be quids in...but hopefully not until the end of the season as he's so integral to what we do.

The frustration is solely down to us not getting in the refs ear. If you don't ask you don't get and when Boro like Brum ask all game for cards and fouls the ref in the end will react on the seed that's been planted from 1st min. We never got 1 call, fans seen it, players seen it and Boro knew it, that in the end got us wound up.

I understand Palmers frustration, like i understand Hamers frustration of being kicked and ref allowing it last game. Our players need to understand what the opposition are doing to us, if the seed is planted and you give the ref a picture or reason he will pull a card faster than a rabbit on a promise... We need to get smart, because its now a part of the game, we don't have to go low, but we have to say to the ref, watch them take turns in kicking Hamer, O hare, watch them ask for cards ref.. Its part of the game we all grew up with and know it goes on in a parks game or the pro game. We just need to be proactive not reactive with the ref.

He made 2 fairly bad mistakes in the first 12 minutes.
I really like him but he's very raw, which is why he's been loaned to us.
Still prefer that back 3 configuration to the one that started against Luton.

I remember when I managed a Saturday team and I knew the referee we had loved being told how good he was at his job. He has a reputation for winding players up and actually got assaulted a couple of times. I said to the lads even if you think he’s a prick just say stuff to him like ‘good decision ref’. We won the game and the other team had two sent off for dissent. The dark arts worked that day!

Wow,. Are you serious or u looking at doing the same to get reaction.

Are u saying it doesn't happen or you don't approve of it. If you think its not coached or not a big part of the game. Then that is truly is the most delusional thing ive seen on here.
