I’m a big MR fan and was devastated when he was sacked. But looking at it dispassinnately now, I think Robins would have struggled to turn things round. Too much seems to have happened behind the scenes, and it was looking tough for him.

I thought Rudoni was very good last night. I was in the Riverside stand behind him as he played along the left touchline. He looked so confident on receiving the ball, and was a constant danger. Didn’t quite find the right final ball when reaching the touchline, but I thought he looked a class...

On the basis that they’re going to give it to a home player, I think he was their best on the night. He was a bit of a handful, particularly in the air (he won most duals in the air, and set up some dangerous monents). He was no slouch on the ground either. I thought he was decent.

Yep, absolutely right. My Grandad, a Mackem from South Shields took me to the Sunderland game, and then queued a couple of days later for tickets for the Man U game. What a night, as you say, broken down gates, the attendance thought to be nearer 50,000. A privilege to be at those games, eh?

My second ever Cov game, v Man U Quarter Final FA Cup 1963. Denis Law played, Bobby Charlton scored two, Albert Quixall the third. Attendance 44,000. A great goal scorer. RIP Denis Law.
