Well, what does the data analytics community know that Grendel doesn’t? It does show that Collins has had the ‘easiest’ difficulty of shots faced alongside Allsop so really Collins should be performing better. Equally, the argument he’s one of the worst GKs we’ve had for years just doesn’t make...

What’s your expectation on our budget? The phrase “I’d have bought a ‘quality’ Championship striker” as if these players are readily available at a good price. Generally, they’re not. We’ve signed players from around 7 or 8 different leagues this season and we’ve finished 9th in the...

Enjoy. Bradley Collins has the highest shot saved % on 76.5% and second highest shot stops per 90m (Fotmob). @clint van damme for good measure. https://fbref.com/en/comps/10/keepers/Championship-Stats https://fbref.com/en/comps/10/keepersadv/Championship-Stats...

Have a look at the stats from the link I posted, a lot of GKs have conceded more goals than they should have. There’s a glossary of what each field means. I’ll use Cov as an example: As a team, our xG ‘post-shot’ for goals conceded is 52.1 goals, and the goals we’ve conceded (non-FK and...

For what it’s worth, I agree. Especially if we want to progress and it probably isn’t the number 1 priority as this season shown we had too thin a squad. I just don’t like the toxic narrative a lot of people have towards Collins. It’s the same with Burge, apparently not good enough for L2 yet...

If you really believe that and have looked into the stats, you wouldn’t hold the opinions you do on Collins. He’s saved more goals than he’s let in and one of the highest match ratings in the league. What you’re saying doesn’t hold up against the numbers. Specifically, relating to him starting...

That’s completely the wrong way around… This season has ended on a whimper because we have a thin squad and it got too much for them. Again, if you can win the golden glove with Ben Wilson in goal, GK really isn’t as important as you think. The Mourinho and SAF maxims about GKs being worth...

I agree, the amount of gift wrap goals we’ve conceded in April is a joke. Correct me if I’m wrong here @Saddlebrains, something has probably changed from MR’s perspective too. The early prospective targets you listed did not include a GK and now we’re looking at a new Number 1. Was this always...

Without knowing DL’s specific coaching responsibilities, it’s hard to tell. I’d imagine it would impact some of the teams cohesion, for sure. Defensively, the picture wasn’t amazing before DL left, we’d still only kept 3 CS against Stoke, Maidstone and Rotherham. Our xG for and against was...

Which applies to more than just Collins. Even past the individual mistakes we make as a team, we concede far too many shots at goal and in dangerous areas. The defensive structure is higher priority and there will be both tactical and coaching changes to be made to improve that area. MR in his...

Why do the stats indicate otherwise?

    What did Ipswich get right?

Would FFP have prevented our manoeuvrability? We’ve committed almost all of the Hamer & Vik revenue on signings. We signing Torp and then EMC which we believed wouldn’t involve the loan back deal until the last minute. Hull went all out in the loan market and that got them nowhere really, if we...

    Solid, regular, back 5.

Stats don’t lie whereas our subjective opinions on anything do because they are impacted by our emotions. So we get bedwetting all the time. The stats also indicate our defending has not been good all season, even during the purple patch. Every position needs to be improved if we want to get...

Even before or after the Hull game, Collins had the highest match rating in the league. You’ve had people on this forum who have and never will like Collins. He’s pulled off some really good saves that’s kept us in matches. Better than Wilson by a long shot. Then again, what do the analysts...

The operative word is ‘more’ in what I said. There’s two problems and one is more concerning than the other. Your GK is the last line of defence so the marker of a good team is preventing the opposition chances at goal. For example, this is why the best Prem GKs (Allisson & Ederson) tend to...

It really isn’t as desperate as that. We won a golden glove award with Ben Wilson in goal. The GK errors are obvious blunders you can point the finger at, but as a team, we’ve been conceding far too many chances. This is why some statistics have Collins as one of the leading GKs in shot saved %...

    Dean Austin

We have a 5 year plan so we’ve bought players to develop into league leading players. Tactically, there are gaps and you have to consider the bigger picture. We’ve got more goal scorers and added 4-5 (maybe more) talented players that should net us £15+ million each. Compare that to Kasey...

Statistically, he’s one of the best central midfielders in the league in defensive stats and ball progression. That’s why Prem teams want him.

    JDS

Yes and MR’s comments about defending apply to JDS as much as anyone. Tactically, our defending isn’t where it needs to be either. Plenty of work to be done in preseason because despite all the individual errors, our defending has not been good enough from a tactical point of view too.

    JDS

That’s a fair assessment. I do think JDS could really kick on for us and can see why he was favoured over Bidwell early in the season. If Lati or JDS were sold to some of the teams mooted, I wouldn’t be mad at all. They’re still both good players.
