I really enjoyed that free kick though but I agree I don't think that Ships (however much I like him) can be called the new Beckham as yet. He's a good striker of the ball though to be fair.

    Sky blues.....shooting to win

I think it's fair Otis to say that Hiwula did not have his shooting boots on at Oxford. And I agree he does go missing too frequently in games. But I generally see him as a very good finisher. And on top of that his two assists last week-end were first class.

    U23 v Hull

Laughing and would give a double like if I could. Shame Max didn't see that number plate as well; a size 12 boot would have been quickly and rightfully applied to the window screen with some relish.

    Laughing out loud!

    U23 v Hull

Agreed. As I said before we can't expect Godden to compete on his own against two 6'4 centre backs in every game - however good he is. I see Max playing a role in certain games/situations in providing some key support up front and creating space for Godden to create havoc.

    U23 v Hull

Did he head it from 30 yards? Grendel would of course immediately self combust on that news.

    First choice midfield

I think that's a good point Manchester. I think the reality as you say is that football is a results business and we need our best players on the pitch - and in the lower leagues we should sensibly use the loan markets. Last season we had Bright and Thomas - big losses - but we now have new...

    Would JCH have fitted in

Come on Grendel!!! There are times you are spectacularly right (I read back the Bigi thread you published last week and you got that right) and there are times when like all of us you get it wrong. For someone who loves stats to argue certain points, claiming that Max had never scored a header...

    Matty godden

I agree with you Back Room on Godden - strong and skilful. But why the need to diss one of our players coming back from a very serious injury? A player who really stepped up in our promotion season. I don't get it.

    First choice midfield

Completely agree with you Oakey. What I would also like to see is a complete commitment to possession and progressive football even after we take the lead. Too often we retreat when we go in front and concede possession to the other team and our forward initiative.

    First choice midfield

I like the flexibility in this team as well. O'Hare in the free role - similar to how Bright played for us.

    Would JCH have fitted in

I would say that you are an excellent manipulator of stats Grendel to suit your needs - seen this in lots of your arguments! I do admire your research though (actually not meant as sarcasm today!). McNulty to be fair has been on the record saying how much he enjoyed playing with Max...

    First choice midfield

Agreed Manchester. My dream is to have a fully fit JJ back and on the pitch. I think he's a real player and ideal for our 4-3-3. Both as a creator and a finisher. He was the best player in L2 prior to injury and I believe that Leeds were about to table a major bid in the January window.

    First choice midfield

More than fair points CP. Hard not to like your team. I really hate leaving Walsh out though - absolute quality. I also like McFaz for his ability in the air and leadership qualities. I think we missed him at Oxford when he would have fronted up to their tactics and stepped in. Rose is an...

    First choice midfield

That's fair kg82. Difficult decisions to make and pros/cons for different players/formations. I've always honestly been Shipley's biggest fan so I would hate to see him left out - but I have to measure that against the ball playing qualities of Allen and Walsh. Deep down I want us to play...

    First choice midfield

Marosi Dabo Mcfadz Hyam Mason Allen Kelly Walsh O'Hare Godden Jones Very harsh to even contemplate leaving out Jobello, Rose, Hiwula, Shipley (I love all of these players) but I would love to see the team above at some stage this season. I think we need our best ball players on the pitch...

    Would JCH have fitted in

Thanks for the laugh cc84! To be fair though compared to the "Blackpool firm" - JCH is certainly 'hard as fuck' and they'd be on their toes all the way back to the Blackpool tower.
  18. DannyThomas_1981

    Would JCH have fitted in

I think we've had this debate before Grendel. Max to be fair was stepping up from a much lower level of football. And in the final third of our promotion season Max was absolutely brilliant; Notts County away as a best case example of being a game changer and goalscorer. Apart from goals...

    Marosi

We've never had a keeper so comfortable on the ball - it shows how much of the role of the keeper has evolved over the years. I could be wrong but I don't think I've seen Marosi kick it long out of hand this season. Always looking to build patiently from the back vs. launching it long. I...

    Would JCH have fitted in

I think it's an interesting debate on JCH. Our possession game this season has improved since the first half of last season. JCH suffered last season as we seemed to be launching long balls up to him pretty frequently; never felt that was his strong point. Our current style would suit him...
