Sometimes the anticipation and positional awareness of an experienced player can make up for a lack of pace. Think of Fatz for example. Much as I loved Fatz, peak Coady was clearly a much better player.

I think the key word in your post is "currently". The club obviously wants to get another LCB in, hence the interest in Hughes. I'm sure that we will, even if it's a loan.

As others have said, MVE can play further upfield and I actually think that is the better part of his game. If MVE stays - which we don't know - I can see still KKH getting plenty of game time.

Is it? We need cover for MVE if he stays and if he goes we need KKH and another.

Wrexham are buying Doyle, according to the latest reports.

I'd be happy with their CB pairing of Coady and Doyle.

Obviously it depends upon the wording of the transfer agreement but on a commonsense basis the discount would be the same as the sell-on fee we would pay them if he was sold to another club.

The BBC is reporting that Sheffield United's offer for Bobby Thomas is only £5 million.

They did in the early days when they were trying to keep us in the top flight. It all changed after we went down.

I guess we would all like to see us get a replacement in first but don’t think it can happen. What if we spend, say, £10 million on Doyle or Hughes and then the sale of Thomas falls through? It’s probably different if we can sell MVE quickly for £8 million+. I’m still concerned (see above) that...
