    Boxing

Head was down too low (below his shoulders) when he was going in an getting in too close - never going to get any decent shots in that low or that close. Idea was a good one. Most times Joshua was just stopping from lifting his head into him. Parker caught him a few times with the head -...

Dull that one. Parker happy to stay out of reach and pick up his cheque. Joshua happy to box behind his reach with the jab. About 3 decent shots in the whole fight. Referee killed the flow as well.

    Butch Wilkins

Wishing Butch Wilkins all the best and a speedy recovery Apparently seriously ill after a heart attack this evening. Quality player and a decent bloke. Met him a few times.

    Ashes 17/18 Thread

Still all goes back to weak selection practices for last summer's Tests & persistence with batsmen who can't build an innings. All this is on the back of squeezing similar type batsmen into a long order rather than having a strong top 5/6. Ali experiment foundering when he doesn't get runs and...

Sutherland will be gone in a couple of months. Can't endorse Lehmann's tenure like that when obviously broader problems in Aussie camp. Personally think Lehmann's gotten away with it using players' plight as his excuse.

Others in the set-up have to have known. Whether they were willing participants or just kept quiet is another issue. All points to the unhealthy culture in the side which either Smith & Lehmann encouraged or just chose to overlook.

    Ashes 17/18 Thread

ridiculous Lehmann keeps his job. He's responsible for the team and its current culture, what was the walkie-talkie business about? slightly cynical that with Aussie cricket renegotiating a huge TV deal their best batsman will be back for key money-makers - WC and Ashes. Still believe it's a bit...

Another aussie whitewash. Chances of no coaching staff being part of it - slim. Chances of no bowlers being part of it - nil. Trying to sweep it under the carpet and ignore other tampering and behavioural claims.

gotta feel this review/investigation is going to reveal an unhealthy environment surrounding the team etc. Influential cadres & a "a win at any cost" culture. Written press already confirming stories of the unpleasant nature of the Ashes sledging. Bairstow & his father's death, religion & race...

    Ashes 17/18 Thread

this isn't a "nice" Australian side. Despicable cheating. Is this really 1st time they've done it? Complaining about sledging, crowd comments etc. Lehmann was the one calling for the crowd to abuse Broad for "cheating" - now this is his team and the walkie-takie business doesn't look kosher...

    Ashes 17/18 Thread

you've got to have someone to hold the innings together. there's no doubting the ability of some of the batsmen to score runs when it's easier and a platform has been built. Seems to almost be a thread running through top level English sporting sides that they still can't handle the mental side...

    Ashes 17/18 Thread

Going to keep saying it - this obsession with attacking one-day batsmen in the Test side is ridiculous. Hitting your way out of trouble etc. Most of those wickets were given away. Really what is wrong with a plodder who builds an innings? You've got 5 days. This one will be over in 3 days.

also maybe have to compare Cousins (an experienced QB) 28m to Garappolo (relatively experienced) 27.5m

It's a difficult call. I've said earlier in this thread I'm not a big Cousins fan (even before he was linked with the Vikings). Do think he was probably the best QB we faced last year in regular season - putting up big numbers and 30pts on our defence. Redskins have had plenty of other issues...

operative word is decent. Take the best parts of all 3 and you'd get a good QB. Maybe it's just the set-up but Keenum & Bradford had career seasons/stats at Vikings which they hadn't really come close to elsewhere. Bradford injury-issues, always the question whether Keenum was just a one-off...

See my post from a month ago. I should have put a few quid on it. Not sure how it's going to go. Boom or bust. He's got a good offence to work with just need to see how he works out with Defillipo (new offensive co-ordinator). Do need a couple of linemen in free agency. Not sure Cousins is as...

So out of touch with Premier leagure football now

Problem is these PL just don't think. There is no justification for paying out much if the money they do. Fees & wages are expanding to fill the TV income. There aren't that many World class players in PL that justify wage levels. Knock on effect down the leagues which again has no relation...
