7.9 for the transfers, really wanted a lw as cover but the rest i like and 10/10 for the flounce off

Because as it stands it was a bit of a ridiculous fee to pay for a player that has never played a single minute of top flight football anywhere.

So, from an outside point of view I can certainly understand the question marks around his signing.

Plus, at the end of the day, even looking through a Sky Blue lens, it really does remain to be seen whether he'll be as effective this season against much more clinical opposition.

We knew he would cost around £20m. Would you not have gone ahead with the deal?

I think we accepted the total deal would be around £20m. Instead the total deal with add-ons is £30m, plus a sell-on clause, plus a buy-back option.

I said all of last year if Brighton were to play silly buggers we'd be able to extract better value from overseas for a talent that is equal or perhaps even better. My position hasn't really changed on that.

Listening to Grimes being interviewed it appears Rushworth returning was very popular withv the players, maybe that played in to it?
 
We will only know when the season progresses from,

1. Impact of new signings on team performance (players match rating)
2. How many of new players can play regularly (game time measure)
3. Integration with our existing players (stength of connections)
4. Flexibility (their ability to adapt to different team formations)
Any judgements at this stage is pure speculatation which is unfair

I don't doubt Rushworth's ability he's clearly a talent, but I think the deal was entirely driven by sentiment and pressure from the fans.

I said some point last season that for us it's about extracting value in the transfer market.

We knew we wouldn't be able to fork out £200m so it's about stretching the resource we have available as far as it can possibly go.

Was dedicating a significant of our budget to Rushworth really a smart use of resources given the rebuild that was required?

I suppose time will tell as he might pull up serious trees. But regardless it's a question that really should be asked when the transfer market is closed and there's positions that are yet to be filled.
 
Rated it a 6 assuming we plan to use Cherif off the left wing to rotate with EMC. If we keep using Asante there I'd drag it down to a five because that left side obviously needed work and we wouldn't have done anything serious to address it.

I’m giving it an 8/10.

I'm an optimist and I refuse to buy into the knee jerk doom after the first couple of games.

It’s almost impossible to know at this stage how all the new additions are going to work out. There are so many factors and I don’t think we can really judge much from the first couple of games.

The 8 for me is based on the business we’ve done on paper. I think we’ve got good value for money, made the most of the budget and, if the £50k wage cap is true, we’ve done pretty well within that.

I like the balance of the squad, good mix of potential and experience and we seem to have filled most of the positions that needed strengthening even if we didn't get all of our first choice targets (we'll never know.)

Even if we were still in the Championship I’d expect it to take a few weeks for this many new players to gel, just as it did after Vic and Gus were sold.

Maybe I’m being overly optimistic but I think we’ll be fine once we find our feet. Most of the players from last season have already shown they can improve and step up from where they were when we signed them and I think a fair few of them can go again and prove they can handle the next level up 💪🤞

Love you put yourself in the over 40 category when youre firmly in the over 65 one.

Been posting on here since I was 2 is very impressive

What a difference a day makes. Now feels we’ve recruited a balanced squad. Just the gap from a Championship to a Premiership squad is just such a challenge.
Hard to say how good until Frank gets a settled side, but my assumption is it won’t be good enough, but could be a surprise by end of the season.
Think Yirenkyi and Amenda will be stars and look forward to seeing Cherif and Ghobo.

7.5 for me

We have 2 players for every position. Mfuni can play LB.

There are some young players who could be destined for big things and I believe some of the existing players can step up and old heads have more in them.

Will some struggle and be gone in time? Sure. But it's a good squad and will make us money or challenge for promotion of we do go down which was always gonna be on the cards

Initial fee of £22.5m which is around what most expected. I’d imagine negotiations weren’t helped by James Trafford going for £40m plus add ons
