The Sun - Foreign Takeover? (1 Viewer)

Big two page thread in the Sun today suggesting there is to be a big influx of foreign billionaires taking over football league clubs with the aim of making it to the Premier League.
Bankers have said that Russians and Saudis are looking towards Bristol City, Gillingham, Cambridge, MK Dons, Peterborough and ourselves as targets.

It won't be us. I'd also be very wary. Any club they take over would be just a play thing until they get bored.

Any sort of change from the status Quo would be welcomed, what could be worse really ? Sadly though, I expect that Wasps having grabbed the Ricoh will have nobbled our chances !

Yeh right, I'd rather we be a play thing for 5 years than be owed by the present bunch of wasters..

And it's that kind of mentality that got us in the crap in the first place. I didn't say it would be worse, it'd probably be lovely for a season or 2 and then they'd realise they've made a huge mistake and want out, not spend any money and then the fans would turn again. Someone else wanting to spend money would come along and glen would pop up again saying "worse than the Russians, I don't care, just get rid".

and that would be a bad thing compared to now? not that I hold any stock whatsoever in what the sun has to say.

Nice thought but our friendly billionaire hasn't got anything to buy has he? Apart from the name "Coventry City Football Club" and the golden share. No real estate. No stadium thanks to Wasps and CCC.

He's gonna buy the freehold at CV6 from the council and find a way of booting them all off !

Don't get me wrong, if it got rid of our current owners if be as happy as the next guy. I'm just thinking ahead to what COULD happen... But then again, those things could happen with these lot.

Certainly, but doesn't that make us cheaper to buy?

You'd have thought so, in theory. But do you think SISU will think that way? I don't. I think they want as much money back as possible to cover money they've lost. Hence why the stadiums so important.

Yes, of course. But why would they want to buy a club who don't own anything?

realistically the worst case scenario with a billionaire taking over with us as their play thing is they invest alot into the playing squad but nothing into infrastructure, we get promoted to the championship, a very expensive playing squad is assembled with a very large yearly wage bill, we fail for a couple of years at getting to the premiership, the Billionaire says screw this, not putting anymore money in, we can't afford our players, we go into administration and get relegated. This is the pretty much the worst case realistic scenario and it's massively preferable to the current scenario imo. I don't think that leaves us in a worse place than now.

Oh yes, them as well. However, it was CCCs deal with the Franchise that really sealed our fate.

Sisu had their chance but wanted it for nothing.
Bit like the car you want to buy, you tell the seller your interested, you view the car several times, you haggle several times on the price knowing the guy won't sell it to you for the price you offered, and then while your messing around another guy turns up offers the seller what he wants and drives off in the car.. Leaving you bitter and twisted and with your pants round your ankles..like sisu

Didn't they offer more than Wasps paid? Didn't we pay more in rent than Wasps paid?

I personally think wasps would be happy to sell half the Ricoh to a Billionaire investor in ccfc. They would presumably want an instant return on their investment though and wouldn't sell it for 2.77mill. half of the ricoh with premiership wasps and premiership coventry city is worth significantly more imo than the whole ricoh currently and it's significantly less risk for wasps. It would be a win win. The naming rights for the stadium alone would increase by an order of magnitude imo, then there is the hundreds of thousands of extra people visiting the arena each year.

Of course this is almost certainly just a fantasy and there is no white knight.

Who was 'they'? Answer me rather than going missing please. And was that offer 'conditional'? Like the one a few years ago that was conditional on Yorkshire Bank accepting a pathetically low offer?

Otherwise it's like me offering you £1m (conditional on me shagging both Minogue sisters, finding a cure for Parkinson's Disease and learning to ride a horse in the same morning)

Another thread bites the dust

Sorry; this whole CCC/Wasps thing does my head in. Zero mention of SISU's role yet again. It was bought to a head the other day on another thread - Torchy asked to comment, there where appropriate; he goes 'missing' then comes back spouting the same crap like it never happened. Like with the Judicial Review conclusions. It's like ground-hog day. Day after day, after day...
