Personally, I shout at players when they deserve it, all I ask is they put the effort in, and if they don't why shouldn't I as a paying customer, show my disappointment?

I don't agree with getting on the teams back, and encourage support, but why are those that boo being considered "lesser" supporters?
 
It's not really showing a lot of support is it.

People should be on their side and encourage them, and not be so fickle.

Don't blame Linnell either - just repeating other people's opinions.
 
Sorry but I've never understood fans who boo their own players.....some of the treatment mcsheffery got last season was disgraceful....at the end of the game fair enough but not during it....can't see the boo boys being that busy this season :-)
 
But why would those who attend the Ricoh, and not sixfields, be considered Boo boys?
 
I agree there was too much booing at the Ricoh - maybe partly explains the bad home form last season?
 
as much as the "true supporters" get on their high horse, fans only boo when the football is dire. and after paying potentially 4-5 hours wages, why should they not show their anger? if you bought a car that was a bucket of nuts, would you not be annoyed with the salesman?

i never boo if i'm unhappy, just stay sat down, stay quite and sulk.

i don't see the point in booing your team especially with the young team we have now, it wont add to their game and its not like they are a bunch off overrated, overpaid, pre-Madonna's.

leave the booing for the glory boy supporters, that what i say.
 
Professional experienced players wouldn't be affected by it anyway.

The sort of vile comments players make to each other on the pitch teaches the players to block out such things.

Younger players might be slightly susceptible to it but they soon learn.

I think we're doing players an injustice by saying they get put off by such things. This team certainly is very mentally strong.
 
I must point out though I've only ever booed once in my life.

That was after the pathetic display at Charlton on the last day of the season 2008.

I don't think there is a person on earth who would have defended that performance.
 
So what has brought this on? haven't heard any booing at away matches this year.

But then again that is how it goes when you are playing well.

All teams have boo boys not just cov fans what utter shite' I too do not boo players and there are quite a few I didn't like for one reason or another.

I think it's probably due to the fact that when a player has a bad day, maybe say off the pace of the game - it's much more visible than for say a brickie who simply lays fewer bricks & his boss might have a quick moan. Both probably know they are having a bad day. The thing is if someone watching has a bit of a rant (& I don't mean abuse), it doesn't make too much difference, they carry on as they were since they're probably trying just as hard as when they're having a good day. Booing by a larger group on the other hand frustrates, demotivates, angers & negatively impacts because they are being singled out & made to feel unloved...& the performance suffers.
So by all means tell someone to get their finger out, better still tell them you & they know they can do much better...but do not boo!

If you read the first post, I was referringvto linnels constant defending of staying away from the Ricoh due to boo boys.

Sorry but that's pure unadulterated bullshit. Go read any sports psychology literature, or watch any interview where sports players talk about the impact of the crowd. It's fairly open and shut that the crowd effects performance and that a negative atmosphere never gets anyone to produce their best.

Say it makes you feel better if you like, but don't try and make out it doesn't negatively impact our players.

Edit: just seen your post saying you don't boo. Apologies. The rest still stands "mental toughness" is a load of crap spouted by people who have no understanding of the elements that impact performance.

By that logic we should play in front of closed doors.

The Ricoh would be 100% positive if we had the same record. Not to mention several people who have been have said that when performance drops it's just as negative.

FFS they're not some special fans chosen for their positivity, they're the same City fans we've always had.

In the main I do not disagree with you -- certainly some players who were castigated by the crowd were notably effected by it -- Darby is an obvious one. Few will remember Nardiello but his confidence was visibly shaken when the abuse started. Adebola got fearsome abuse at one stage but succesfully battled through it. Players aren't taught to deal with this - they can't be - it just depends on the mental strength but it can destroy players.
 
People become irrational when they have had a few jars--it addle's their brain's and they don't know what they are doing.
 
I dont get this bullshit that players are not booed at Sixfields. Short memories Adam Barton was BOOED when playing out of position during a game.

So this myth bullcrap that all the fans going are a positive bunch is not true, i heard it on CWR loud and clear.

Clive Eakin mentioned it and Stuart Linell picked up on it.

Also Ryan Haynes was given nothing but encouragement when he started at left back at the Ricoh. Or do the people who moan about the Ricoh crowd forget this?

Don't know about this Ricoh/six fields bullshit but can give my opinion on booing. It absolutely infuriates me!! You ask why people shouldn't express their disappointment at their performance? By all means boo at the end of the game if you feel someone played shit, but do you think booing them will make them up their game? Do you think that when they're having a shit day at the office and their so called supporters boo them every time they get the ball, that they think "I can do this I can do this" or "better get myself together"? Or is it more likely that they're thinking WELL FUCK YOU VERY MUCH THEN. Or worse - making them doubt themselves even more and hoping they don't get the ball?

I certainly know what my thought process would be. It baffles me it really does...."hey he's having a bad game lets boo him that'll make him play better".

booing isn't exclusive to us, Narni yesterday got pelters, all clubs have them.
 
I really think this is moving away from what I meant. The impression I get from linnel is he's suggesting we stay away from the Ricoh because there may be fans that boo. Which imo is the most pathetic out of all the reasons not to go back. What's he's basically saying is cov need new fans away from Coventry to be successful. It just annoys me that those going to sixfields are being treated as some superior fan. Personally I think anyone who truly supports CCFC in any way is a superb fan, cus it will be so much easier to support a successful prem team, but we don't.
 
It has alot to do with a players attiude, its quite easy to see when a player is not giving 100%. Ducking out of challanges etc. This will lead to booing as his comitment is not what it should be.

To back up this point someone mentioned Nani getting booed by Man Utd fans yesterday as he was weak and not giving 100% happens at alot of clubs.

The other side of this is if a player is not good enough and gets stick, recent example was Chris Hussey. Previous managers stuck by him but Mark Robins got rid of him as he was not up to CCFC's level as he could see it.

I dont agree with booing our own, but if he is disloyal and dont want to play for CCFC he will get it, like Leon Best did.
 
Linnel doesn't suggest anything - just reitterates other people's opinions who phone in. It's his job - strange how some people haven't worked that out yet! He always calls them 'so called' boo boys or refers to it being someone else's opinion so it's a bit out of order trying to set up a witch hunt for him because he expressed the opinions of a wide spectrum.

MY opinion is the boo boys want to have a look at what they do in life, and how they'd feel if they were criticised as much as that for having a bad day. Not really 'support' is it?

Had a conversation with a Hammers fan a couple of years back. He mentioned how when West Ham go down a goal, everyone's cheering and encouraging them to win - and then compared it to how Coventry fans reacted to similar situations at the time. It's not a new thing, but now that it's highlighted, it's something people should probably think about before they do it, because it makes other fans laugh at us and doesn't accomplish anything other than personal satisfaction that your negative opinions count as support.
