The coaches can worry about individuals after we solve the team shape out of possession. We are the easiest team to play against because we don't have structure or experience at this level without the ball. And if you don't have that you don't have the starting positions to create quick pressure or to slow down and even force the opposing team into areas you want them. Teams are not having to fight or think to hard into how to break us down., we give them time to pass, shoot or run half the length f the pitch to score.

At the minute we are better with it than without the ball. Unfortunately that leads to the results we have seen and the goals we have conceded. We are getting exactly what we deserve and unless the shape isn't sorted we will fail and individuals will look like they are treading water.

It takes work and time playing together to fix, but once you set the team ethic the individuals learn the responsibility of that role. Then different player or different situations the solution is always the same. At this point its doesn't matter where we end up what matters is that team structure is in place for us going forward. Everything then becomes easier even the recruiting as you go and find the best players that fit the identity.

Stick with the 4231.
It keeps the best creative players on the pitch together. Flatten to 451 off the ball and a little deeper and more compact. Limit pressing. Playing as a 541 or as a pressing 442, always ends with 2 mids against an overloaded opposition. In 541, the CB is vacating space to cover up the pitch and getting played through into the same space.

Start Hamer and start him deeper in the midfield.
Having him chase as one of the 2 in a 442 doesn't make sense. He seems better at breaking up play over a short distance. See if he can win possession deeper and pick a pass through or over the top. Hamer and Yirenkyi seem capable of this. Grimes and Torp don't have the quickness, Onyeka doesn't have the passing. If Hamer is gassed by half, so be it. Bring on another CM or swap to the 541 at that point (hopefully with a lead).

Need the defense especially the CBs and MVE to consistently find a higher standard.

He took 2 shots from distance last night which is something the rest of team seems unwilling to do. Still has a pass in him. Off the ball, he hasn't played as an 8 or deeper, once out left from what I recall and as a 10 yesterday. Agreed, he isn't best used in either position. To my point, play him where he was successful previously and see if he's better overall than Grimes, Torp, or Onyeka for a half.

Did we watch the same game? I'm thinking specifically about the attempt where he avoided a defender centrally, narrowly missed wide, and hit the post behind the goal. Point remains regardless.

Fair enough. Thought he was good on the ball and could be better utilized off the ball. Didn't see extremely poor myself, admittedly get caught watching the ball too much.
