Sack race

Club probably cant take the risk 1st season in fairness

It’s only a risk if we can’t either sign players other clubs at the level would want or we can’t negotiate wage drops on relegation. Even then another 20k a week for three years is £3m which is the sort of money we’ve given away in bad negotiations anyway.

Careful with that… don’t you know if we pay 2/3 players 100k a week, Latibeudiere might down tools and we’re certainties for liquidation

I know you’re joking but I’d have thought the kind of character with so little self awareness they don’t realise they aren’t worth what a Barkley or a Xhaka is worth probably isn’t the type you want anyway tbh

Correct - but that point was made in the summer. “Players won’t be happy that others are on much more”

Maybe so but someone with a methodology and system to minimise the opposition threats and maximise the potential and attributes we have got would be a start.

Yes, I know its only 5 games, blah, blah but how anyone can see any reasons for optimism and thinks this is going to get better is beyond me.

Its not clear to me what our system of play is, and defensively out of possession and in transition we are shambolic. Sadly, FL looks bereft of ideas and already resigned to his/our fate.
It would just be rearranging deck chairs. We’ve clearly got recruitment wrong. These players are going to get relegated. I would much prefer a focus on the summer now to plan how we get back up.

How does confidence evaporate so quickly and easily though? Something is clearly wrong behind the scenes. Its not not normal how easily we've shrivelled.

You do realise we’re playing a level up. We made a lot of errors last year. Our defending was poor. Our midfield frequently empty. But we were either not punished or scored more goals

You’ve had this take on a number of threads and it’s just not true.

We would not have gone up as champions had our defence been poor.

Lots of players made errors all over the pitch last year and Rushworth ‘saving us’ is just him doing what he’s paid to do.

That being said we have made costly errors in defence this season and been punished (which is what happened against better opposition).

But to say our defence last season was poor is way off the mark for the reason for this seasons poor performances.

I know it's not what you mean, but they aren't worth that, are they; no-one is.

This is part of the issue; the money is insane in the Premier League, to the point where it's pretty much list meaning, and it's almost impossible to compete against that coming up.

I’m afraid it is true. We conceded ridiculously poor goals for the last 2-3 years on a consistent basis. When they weren’t converted we often contrived to gift guilt edged chances through poor play. We consistently played with full backs who don’t defend. But we scored a lot and weren’t punished as much.

Last year, especially in the first 20-30 mins of games, we got away with murder defensively in games we went on to win. However the errors were plain to see, we just generally didn't get punished, or if we did we went on to score 3 goals or so. This gets forgotten, but often last season we were so far away from wide men, slow to engage, or made basic errors. Now the chickens have come home to roost.

Not sure how you go about fixing it, other than to actually mark players on corners

If they earn you £100m a year then yeah they are worth £3m extra a season. The “money is insane” works both ways. It’s insanely lucrative to be a PL team.

Lampard has always struggled to set his teams up defensively.

I'm not taking away from what he did last year (well, since he joined) which was outstanding.

But obviously any defensive weaknesses will be exposed big time at this level and it's showing.

We wont sack him as theres nobody to replace him

you’d get loads of applicants. That’s not really the point. The point is we will be going down anyway so you’d end up sacking his replacement as well

Yes youd get applicants but none that would be worth the change.

Grendel you seem very passive about this whole situation, yet when we got promoted to the Championship didnt have the same grace for Robins.

Why is it nailed on we go down, but Hull and Ipswich dont?

Let's not forget we sacked Aled our goalkeeping coach. Sure he had input on set piece & defensive aspects of our play. Never heard why he left right in the midst of us winning the league. Brutal when you consider it. Been with us for a few seasons & wasn't allowed to celebrate a Championship season.
May well of been good reason for it ?

Pretty sure Lampard praised Williams last year for his work on set pieces.

The two corner goals last night were dreadful.

Which suggests the set up last year is failing in attack

Wasn't sacked for a for a footballing reason, but for a personal reason.

Eddie Howe feels like a great for us if the worst happens with Lampard.
Yeah that wouldn't happen and nor would Thomas Frank. We'd end with Dyche or Edwards, and they'd be sacked too before the end of the season.

I don’t think Frank would ever want embarrassment of being sacked, if it came to it he’d likely walk.

His net worth is about 75million I read, and now Pep has gone is likely to be the wealthiest individual manager in the Prem. does he need the payout or does he value his reputation more?

He just needs to get a better back room team (coaches) IMO

Bring in Harry Redknapp as an advisor could do with a wise old head to guide super frank the head is gone

CHRIST HAHAHA

What a freak result today for a manager who has lost the plot

I think we all were a bit puzzled with the lineup today, but you have to say, FL got it spot on.
