Hi all,
I've got a new interview up on The Phoenix today with former City coach and caretaker manager Rhys Carr.
I spoke to him at length about his eight months at the club and there's some really interesting stuff in there about what was going on behind the scenes during that period.
I feel like him getting a parking ticket during his interview for the job set the tone for what was to come!
He talks about arriving at Ryton on his first day expecting to work with Mark Robins and Adi Viveash, only to discover that Adi had gone, and then goes into quite a bit of detail about how he and Robins worked together on the training ground.
There's also his account of the morning Robins was sacked. Carr says Mark told the coaching staff what had happened and was out of the building within ten minutes. Carr was then called into a meeting expecting that he might be going too, only to be asked to take charge of the team against Sunderland 48 hours later.
One detail I particularly liked was that Robins was messaging Carr with his support on the day of the Sunderland game despite everything that had just happened.
Carr also talks about the iPad criticism, what changed when Frank Lampard arrived, Lampard's dressing-room reaction after the 4-1 defeat at Portsmouth, working with Jack Rudoni and the player he recommended City sign before leaving – Matt Grimes.
It's a really interesting insight into a pretty turbulent period at the club.
