Hamer was signed for the sentiment

There is no excuse for not being fit to play - he was training at Sheffield and been here for a few weeks now.

Amazing the differing takes on last nights performance. My £0.02 was he was anonymous for at least the first 20 mins, grew into the game and had a decent spell for the first 20 of the second half and then faded.

He looks to me like a player who needs more game time to pick up some fitness and sharpness but hard to see where the opportunity will be to give him that game time.

There were a couple if good through balls he played but no one running onto them. Did fade in the 2nd half

It's your opinion that he's not fit and certainly not a fact. If he drops that one in the top corner to put us 2-1 up, that went just past the upright, I can guarantee this thread doesn't exist and there'd be others on here wanking him off instead. He did a number of good things last night, but lots have made their minds up that he eats kebabs and is useless.

My only criticism is the same as when we bought him, I dont see the style we play or how our team has been built that he gets in. He's not got the pace for a winger, he's not a 10, he diesnt tackle well enough for a 6 or get box to box for an 8. He has great passing and quality on the ball, probably in a 5 man midfield, but so many times this season we won't have enough of the ball for him to be effective.

Actually didn’t think he was too bad. Played with a decent intensity first half particularly.

Agreed. Thought he was decent first half, nearly scored a cracker. Faded second but he’s barely been playing so no surprise. Our fanbase is just flailing around slagging everyone and everything off….even little chubby fan favourites

We categorically shouldn't have signed him. Another very bizarre use of budget by Austin this summer.

He genuinely looked in terrible shape last night. Honestly looked like he was making an appearance in a Masters Football game.

I was keen on the signing if we got it done early. Needed to have a full PL-intensity pre season, not a kickabout with the tramps up north followed by a few pints. As it is, we did it about 10 minutes before we kicked the season off and, shock horror, he’s not in good nick.

That’s exactly what I thought he looked the age of his shirt number. Look at McGinn whose two years older and his energy versus hamer

He wasn't signed for the sentiment, he was signed as a cheap backup number 10 - we needed one.

He was alright first half yesterday. Quiet in the second though.

Didn’t think he was that bad last night.

He still has the ability to make things happen eg that through ball to Simms who a) didn’t anticipate and b) wasn’t playing off the last man but directly behind Hamer for some strange reason.

He was also being asked to play 10 - which I don’t think is his best position - and as a pressing 10 - which absolutely isn’t his game.

Not set the world alight but he’s one of a handful of players who have actually played this level. When he was dropping deeper / probably losing his position a bit, he was trying to make things happen. But it’s hard when players are hiding / lack of movement or the only option is a CB playing RB isolated on the wing.

However lack of fitness is unforgivable.

The worrying thing is I actually thought he looked in worse shape than he did vs Monaco.

He looked in better shape then McGinn, though granted that's not the benchmark for PL :)

Yeah no way I would want McGinn over Hamer

Like when he ran the length of the pitch at about 80 odd minutes tracking the Villa player that broke away. If Milan had done it everyone would be creaming themselves.

Didn't take long for everyone to start the witch hunt did it? I am sure Pinnock will be getting some boo's soon too as there were a few in block 15 moaning at him too.

He's looks unfit but i didn't think was terrible or anything. Sakamoto and Lati on the right were horrible, there were 2 or 3 i thought played really well, Hamer i'd just stick in 'meh' with most the others.

Gone in the second half ... except it was well into that half when he ran back covering what would have been another 1 on 1 because new fan favourite Mfuni (not ours, 18 year old kid who has played 1 game) like the rest of the defence was out of position again. The same half he tried to flick blind into Ellis who didnt read it and was too close to him, played the best ball of the night down the left side with outside of his boot, tried to curl into the top corner late on and was always looking to receive in tight areas outside their box. Some of the posters on here who would be out of breath running 20 metres are so clueless about the game, that it would be laughable if they weren't actually our own players they like to slag off.

He wasn't great but nowhere near as bad as the usual suspects are making out.

He was signed because for 6m that was a decent deal.

He was fine first half. Some ropey passes, some good ones. The shot he got off wasn't far off at all.

But his general condition is unacceptable. Second half he genuinely looked like that one fat kid in PE trying to keep up with his classmates being one sudden sprint away from going into respiratory arrest.

As others have said the role he was deployed in made little sense really. Putting him further forward also completely negates his strengths: threading balls through the channels, switching play and driving forward from deep.

But he doesn't really have the stamina, discipline or energy to play deeper so where does that leave him?

I've just given you a few examples of the second half and likely missed some too. If you're so blinkered you refuse to see it, then that's on you.

If you want to ruin a midfielder send him to Wilder. He's returned from that nowhere near the player he was when he left here and simply is miles off it.

You haven't said anything apart from he tracked back once which fair enough he did, and played a pass with the outside of his foot effort to Cherif? who was blatantly offside. What about the examples you're conveniently excluding?

He was dispossessed a couple of times painstakingly easily and was failing to get to relatively simple passes as we moved up the pitch. I didn't think his passing on the whole was great at all either. I felt the game bypassed him in big chunks where he barely touched the ball, even when we were in possession.

In the second half he was pressing that pointlessly and needlessly that the Villa players were just dotting passes around him because he was literally that slow, ultimately taking him out of the game. A for effort F for conditioning and general common sense.

As I mentioned previously, which clearly you're too braindead to read, he was OK first half, and some of his issues were caused by the role he was forced to play - there were certainly much worse performers. But his second half showing highlights why he shouldn't have been signed.

Mcginn and Hamer are stocky players not your tall slim athletic types. Mcginn is an excellent player, Hamer looks like his best days are over

Ssshhhh. Be careful. Someone might hear you saying something negative about Tats and have a melt down.

Sakamoto honestly looked like he'd won a competition to play in a football match. Easily worst of the night.
