Match Thread Coventry City vs Aston Villa [LC] (H) - Coventry Building Society Arena - Wed 16th September (8pm KO) (2 Viewers)

Play our strongest team.
It's 38 games this season not 46.

I don't think we really have much idea of what our strongest team (or formation) is right now. It therefore makes sense to play the likes of Mfuni, Hamer, Tchaouna, Gboho, Cherif and Yirenkyi who didn't start today, so as to help work out what our strongest team might be moving forward.

We've got to go strong just to try and get some confidence. I don't want to see 11 changes. Big T is definitely out and Frank went off injured so probably not worth risking. Only 2 more games before a 3 week international break. From the performances so far this season not many deserve a call up by their country.

I'm really looking forwards to this game. It's an opportunity to score a few goals, play a more attack minded midfield and arguably start with our best technical players. Definitely an opportunity to improve the side (rather than an unwelcome fixture congestion game). As the last 10 mins showed yesterday, you don't need a full stadium to generate loads of noise. Blocks 12-18 are 90% sold anyway.

It's a free hit, but one I think we will win!

Full strength, we have to somehow get a win here before whatever confidence we have left has completely drained away. Fatigue should not be a concern in mid-Sep.

Assuming Onyeka is injured and Gboho isn't considered fit :

Rushworth
MVE, Thomas, Amenda, Dasilva
Hamer, Yirenkyi
Tats (Gboho if he's fit) , Rudoni, Tchauona
Cherif

Couldn’t give a shit about this cup game. The league is what matters but Lampard needs to sort his head out with what he is trying to do and maybe this is a game to experiment.

Play the bloody £120m worth of signings. Playing championship players is over. The experiment has failed. They can’t step up and it’s not their fault.

Rushworth
MVE Thomas Amenda Mfuni
Yirenkyi Hamer
LT Rudoni Gboho
Cherif

I’ll be fuming if he plays a weaker team tbh. Need to start trying to gel and build up a rhythm. Like others have said we play less games this season.

He has to start the same team here he is intending to start at Forest, it benefits no one to throw players in for a one of game to then revert back to the same team as yesterday. I think we have to stay 5atb unfortunately, Yarekni to come into the midfield next to Onyeka, Gboho for EMC & Loum or tatts for Rudoni.

Going for a draw
Win on pens
Gboho to start

Play a strong team, play the new signings, play Hamer instead of Grimes, play Cherif up front.

Try to gain a bit of belief with something approaching a performance.

Rushworth
MVE Thomas Mfuni Dasilva
Onyeka Yirenkyi
Tchouna Hamer Gboho
Cherif
I'd be tempted with thus but if Hamer isn't fit enough to start then i'd give Rudi another go in his best position

Gonna be tears. People’s precious rivals coming here with their reserves and giving us another slap.

It would be great to get a win here, to get a bit of feel good factor in. I feel like Villa will go relatively strong as they are in as a precarious position as us. All the talk about us being braver has to come to fruition now, try something different and just go for it

I woulds start Yerinki, Hamer, Tchaouna, Gboho. Cherif, Mfuni, let these prove why we paid for them and hopefully play themselves in the lineup for the weekend

It's a joke if he's not actually fit enough to start at this point.
we don't know he is not, he doesn't fit into the 3-4-3 we play though as he can't play as one of the 2 deeper midfielders at this level

Team for Wednesday:
Bentley/Rushworth (undecided)
MVE Amenda. Pinnock. Mfuni
FTT
Yirenkyi. Gus
Tats. Cherie. Gboho (if available)

Let’s not fanny about with 5 at the back when we’re at home and against a Villa side missing a few players (and points like us). If ever there was an opportunity to go for it and try and get a bit of confidence back, this is it.

Whatever the result expect us to be up for it and good against Villa
Expect the opposite against Forest and the players all desperate to get away on their 2 weeks hols on Sunday.

We are an attacking bunch of players not a defensive low block team. Play our natural game with a few tweaks to the line up. We must go without Grimes and put Hamer in that role. Simms starts for me. Some of our new signings have to bed in slowly, they are young, raw and come from leagues /sides that would struggle in the championship. They are for coaching and improving and knocking into the shape of things to come. I would like to see Sakamotto in, his defensing tracking is good and Milan misses that understanding. Rudoni is a talent but needs to be a 10. Can't wait to see the changes FL makes with a view to Forest next.

The only thing going in our favour is the pile on over there with Emery, just play the situation on the ground, instinctive!
