And missed them both.

He looked lost today and had no positional sense. The fact you are calling Pinnock a mercenary after 2 games shows you are oversentimental about the team that got us here
To be fair to Rudoni, he’s not a winger.

He wants to drift and find pockets of space which he can’t sadly do without leaving space behind in the 5-4-1.

IMO either play him in the centre of the pitch as a ten or don’t play him at all

He needs to be dropped in a back 5 I agree. I thought in the championship physically he looked a cut above, faster, stronger and more controlled than most. Im not sure if its because of his surgery, or the level above but he looked behind play by about 5 paces today

And this was a much weakened Brighton side....
We need to try and move into attacking and disrupting teams. Doesn't help having our main striker out for 3 games.
Try the new lads but give the likes of Tats, Eccles and Torp a go. At least they will fight.
So will Tchouna and Yirenki. They are clearly better and our only realistic hope of staying up yet sat on the bench. Tats Eccles and Torp can play on Wednesday, but hopefully with Gboho, Hamer and Mfuni getting a run out, they are the priority for me, Tats Eccles and Torp won’t keep us up.

We havent scored a goal pal, everyone has missed every one of their chances…. The whole of the midfield (im including emc and rudy there) were completely passed around when off the ball because the Brighton formation completely and utterly countered ours. They ALWAYS had space because we werent matched up.

As for sentimental, sorry again but definitely not. EMC was woeful and one of the many new left side attackers must replace him immediately.
Van Ewijk continues to look out of his depth and we have noone to replace him.
Grimes is too slow for the prem, BTA is shite.

Infact, the only 3 that could be broadly considered to have stepped up across the 4 games is Rudy, Da silva and Bobby.

Before the season started, how many of last years squad were you happy with keeping and playing.

In what way has Rudi stepped up?

To be fair he wouldn’t be the first player to be too good for the championship and not good enough for the premiership.

Either way we are never going to give him a fair chance of adapting by playing him well out of position.

For what it’s worth, I think he’s done okay so far. Would be much better with some pace from Ghobo and Loam around him and quicker balls from midfield. I still got faith he’ll come good this year.

Hes done nothing of note so far.

You'll never convince me that pulling the trigger on managers at the first sign of trouble is the way to go based on past experience.
King pulled the trigger on Robins earlier than most thought he would (or at least should). I still don’t see Lampard going unless the points tally is still abysmal around Christmas.

He’s played nearly every minute in 4 games… yirenki does exactly the same.. it comes to a point where you either change how you use grimes or yirenki takes his place
Yirenki gives you energy and whilst raw, does look to play a pass or come out with the ball.

Grimes rarely drops back into the pocket to play quarterback now and has zero physical presence in the more forward role. I’d 100% switch Grimes for Yirenki and have him alongside Onyeka rather being his deputy. Ultimately we need to hope Hamer can slot in as he has the quality to move us up the pitch too. I’m looking for a lot of changes on Wed to give other players some match time and try new things. No idea who will be up front, Cherif doesn’t have 90 mins in him yet!

I am baffled at the formation and then lack of substitutions to be honest. It did feel like those scripted ones from the Robins era. The fact Hamer is not getting any minutes is quite telling to me as well. In all the chaos this is being a bit overlooked.

We need the international break (to be used as an intense training camp). We look well out of our depth at the moment.

In my opinion easy to see that Lampard is out of his depth in the PL. Spend good money on wingers and new midfielders and then don't play the mids or the wingers and play a back 5.
He doesn't know what he's doing

But we had 8 days from the man city game and we looked worse.

My word. How low is the bar if we are hoping that Eccles will make a difference in the Premier League. 😬

Ipswich are one cycle ahead of us as they went up previously. There is an argument that we should be competing with Hull at least.

There’s no “cycles” just teams that have it and teams that don’t.

I thought Rushworth, Bobby, Van Ewijk, Onyeka, Rudi were prem ready. I’ve never been convinced by Wright but would begrudgingly put him in there too.

Considering he had a shorter pre season than everyone else, he continues to find the time and space to get goal scoring opportunities. He could/should be on atleast 3 goals by now, with the header and volley today and the header against Arsenal.

Ive already said i think the system today made the entire midfield look like passengers off the ball, but on the ball he was more than comfortable at this level.

I think fitness and physcality are individual traits to players. We are playing players who are used to championship physcality and hoping they can adapt, rather than admitting thye may never get there.
Some of it is individual, but some of it will be because of the system and tactics we deploy.

Look at how many times he was dispossessed today and youll see he wasnt comfortable on the ball at all.

Perhaps only if we are told not to engage in duels and physical battles? We look slow to the ball particularly on secondballs, weak in the air and cant get close to players to foul them

The first 15 minutes of the game where Rushworth was continually hitting awful balls up to Rudoni and we were losing it every time was especially baffling.

Not sure it was. If it was now Biamou would have had to play it back to Grimes rather than try a volley.
Biamou would have been hooked after scoring the first goal for daring to shoot from outside the box.

And there’s the problem… Man City goal came from da silva.. agree he’s improved but he’s not the level we need.. and when you say he was our best player today do you mean at defending or going forward ?
Best by not panicking when under pressure. He is the only one up to now, who has looked comfortable on the ball.
And as for the Man City goal you keep going on about, it was just a good move executed at pace that would have undone most defences.

ChatGPT says in league only we lost 1-6 in 1990, and 0-5 in 1980 and 1919 all along with today our worst ever league losing margin at home.
lost to Liverpool in 1990 last day of the season and Lost to Everton in 1980. Spurs beat us 1st day of the season in 1919 but I can’t remember that one😂

Grimes covered 9.1km, Gross for Brighton (34 years old) covered 11km. Yirenki covered 2.9km in 17 minutes on the pitch. We've got to be much more aggressive and to do that it means covering ground and moving at pace. I had thought the players might step up to this but it's looking like they are struggling to do it.

It was funny, the Grimes covered ground stat was brought up in the week. Yes he does a lot of running, but today he was pressing their centr ehalf then chasing back trying to get near the midfielders when passed to him.

I feel a bit sorry for him.

You sure about that…he’s good going forward but rule 1 of being a defender surely is defend ?

They were all misdirected. His kicking was terrible today. The 2 times he hit Awoniyi from a goal kick, we created chances.

Second highest overall rating is like two bald blokes fighting over a comb. Its pretty meaninless today
Stats either matter or they dont.
We got pumped today, but it werent because Rudy played badly and it wasnt because he’s not at the level which is the point i am defending.

Honestly, i understand why he did it after the Man City performance, but Lampard not changing the formation and helping the midfield fucking killed us.

And even worse, sticking to that formation at 10 men. Just go all out to score a goal and break that duck.

The games being so spaced out is shit too whilst we’re at it.

To be fair if Rudi had buried that chance first half things could have been different.

The formation doesn't help him, EMC and Rudoni also not really suitable for the roles being asked of them. I think Lampard might have over thought the Hull game, it wasn't a brilliant performance but wasn't that bad and but for some strange defending would have been a point.
