Was that the shock we needed?

Always had the impression from fans that Pinnock and Awoniyi were considered star signings who’d do a job and keep us up. If we were to truly be even close to competitive then we needed better ahead of them for selection? Cover signings at best. We could’ve done better but panicked.

There is a reason both of them have barely played the last couple of years.

That’s the one thing that most appear able to agree on. Why aren’t out 3 big signings playing

Man City just won the Manchester derby with 10 men for 70 minutes because their players look like they give a shit and their manager knows what he’s doing.

It doesn’t automatically mean you lose 5-0. Our team just isn’t good enough. Going from 2-0 to 5-0 is unacceptable.

Can you think of any other reason they might have won with 10 men?
Like having several players who are world class!

I don't want to defend our performance, but you cannot compare us to Manchester City; they have some of the world's finest footballers and are backed by an entire country.

They are streets ahead of Manchester United. We are not streets ahead of Brighton and Hove Albion.

So does going down to 10 men automatically mean we lose 5-0?

Our players lost their heads at 2-0, it’s a bad look for the rest of the season.

Palace went down to 10 men yesterday and didn’t get hammered. Just admit we’re fucking shite and should’ve been 3/4 down in the first 20 minutes.

I’m not sure it was a shock. We are still playing a largely championship team. It was never going to go well. People said signing players late in the window was all fine and dandy as long as they signed. But now we are seeing how far off all these players look and it makes you realise (if you didn’t already) that getting players in early is what was needed or have we just wasted our money and signed poor players? Wherever the truth lies this is going to be a very short We Are Back campaign and we need to start preparing our We Have Gone Again signs.

On what evidence should palace expect to beat Ipswich? Ipswich are actually playing well, and look far more the part in this league than we do.
On the basis of them being an established Premier League side and Ipswich being a promoted side with a very leaky defence.

Palace have been gutted over the last 6 months and quite a few picking them to go down this season.

I just cant believewe are THAT bad that we havent scored a goal in our 4 games.

Wasnt there a league 1 a couple years ago that lost everyone of their first 8 and didnt score? Was it Cheltenham?

I half expected this reaction from May, but I did think we'd get to 8 or 10 games before the asylum started on Frank. It is possible to admit he got it wrong today without thinking he should leave yet. Surely he has a bit more credit in the bank than that?

That's as may be; they'd still be looking to beat a promoted team at home, though. Chances are they would have done, 11 v 11.

It was a poor example to use that did the opposite of backing up the point you were trying to make.

How many games do you give him?

The point is, palace didn’t lay down with 10 men. Did you even see the game? They went down to 10 at 1-1 with the game in the balance.

You won't find a post from me saying we weren't shite.
But using Man City as an example isn't the real world. Theyre exceptional and levels above their opponents today

Why didn’t Palace crumble at 1-1 yesterday? we’d have lost that game by 3 or 4 based on today

Palace are an established Premier league team who won a European trophy last year.

These comparisons are meaningless. We do need to sort ourselves out though obviously

It significantly affected the outcome of the match.

Not sure we laid down either; they were better than us 11 v 11, so 10 v 11 was just a mismatch, which is what we saw. They were still trying to get something from the game.

But the original point I was responding to was that going down to 10 men is a death sentence and that meant 5-0 was basically inevitable. It isn’t. The game was done at 2-0 and down to 10 men, conceding 3 more and lucky not to concede more is on us, that’s a team that lost its head today.

Harsh day for the team. But could it be a benefit in the long run. It wasn’t against an elite side, it was at home. And it highlighted fairly brutally that a couple of the stalwarts of last season really have to be dropped. Grimes and EMC primarily. But we also have to get another body in midfield and switch to 4 at the back. We can’t have three of our significant summer additions on the bench. I think this game means Lampard has to make those changes.
I'd like to think so but sadly I think it's going to be the norm . It's just too big a step up after 25 years.

Fair enough, though I think our issues were there for all to see even when we had 11on the pitch

I think if we lose to Forest Lampard may very well be done I hope it’s not the case but King said there was no sentiment in football when sacking Robins. If not Lampard then I can see Austin been gone. King isn’t one to not act.

Let’s put this utter nonsense to bed. No one ever said we needed 4. Some said that was what we’d get.,Which we have. Awoniyi and Pinnock are squad fillers. Hamer - no idea. Which leaves you with Amenda, Cherif, Tchouana and Yirenkyi.
Poster doth protest too hard! Im assuming you were one of said posters who said we only needed 4 signings? Since you were so triggered by this post?

And that comes down to Doug. If he’s put a 50k a week ceiling on us. Doug needs look at. SISU’s “sell at the top of the cycle” thing - it’s the top of the cycle, he needs to hand over the reigns to people with means to compete

Frank has to take his fair share of the blame today

Wingbacks that didn’t score a single goal between them last season in championship

A captain who has completely shrunk and isn’t a ball winner combined with Onyeka who put a good shift in but is woeful on the ball, neither good enough on the ball and grimes out of position chasing shadows

EMC out of his depth, BTA even more so

Rushworth is shot to bits

It’s a complete mess

I think we have a squad good enough to stay up.

At the moment the manager isn't utilising it properly.

to be fair you’ve hated Lampard as a manager before he was even here

I don’t think we have a squad good enough to stay up and never expected it

Let’s be honest.Derby record is there for the taking
I don’t mind going down (that’s expected for most promoted sides)

But Beating that record would be something we’ll never live down as a club. The fact it’s still mentioned nearly 20 years on says everything. Forever a laughing stock.
