Was that the shock we needed?

Harsh day for the team. But could it be a benefit in the long run. It wasn’t against an elite side, it was at home. And it highlighted fairly brutally that a couple of the stalwarts of last season really have to be dropped. Grimes and EMC primarily. But we also have to get another body in midfield and switch to 4 at the back. We can’t have three of our significant summer additions on the bench. I think this game means Lampard has to make those changes.

It’s hopefully a big wake up call for Lampard.

Today every CB was at fault for a goal. Slugs.

We had a midfield which is championship level and can’t control any flow.

We had EMC and Rudoni who lack pace to provide any outlet in this formation.

Frank doesn’t start hardly any of the new players.

Frank didn’t even change formation after being 2/3 nil down. Stuck with 5 at the back when we needed goals. Just give us something…

It goes on…

Responsibility is with the manager at the end of the day.

We've largely made the bed and have to lie in it. Pray the 2 new signings we've not seen yet can add a spark.
I'm not convinced we've bought any real quality in.

Seems Lame-pard is wedded to the idea of starting Grimes every match regardless of the outcome. EMC looks strong, but his shots were so weak today. Plus he’s so damn slow.

I think people have said this or something along this line after every game so far.

Why should it need that to happen?
To wake our management team up.
You cant continue with a Championship team in the PL.
There's a reason Onyeka and Pinnock and Awoniyi weren't playing regularly in the PL, its because they were no longer considered good enough. Also MvE doesn't look the player he was without Sakamoto ahead of him. Grimes has gone backwards and Rudoni and EMC looks way out of their depth.

Our bench looked far more capable than our starting 11. And if we are going to give the opposition so much room in MF we may as well play 2 up front and bypass MF completely.

Arsenal was the shock

Then losing at home to Hull was the shock

But now THIS is the shock.

Not so much a shock. But it highlighted quite brutally how far some are off it. Lampard had mitigating factors before but they are well and truly gone

If only people had been saying Grimes etc arent good enough all summer.

I don’t mean to be disrespectful on the OP, but it did make me laugh. How many wake up calls do we need? Why should we take four games to realise we need point while other teams are picking them up? Too much rationalising imo. We are crap. Call a spade a spade. I think Lampard may be taking this pragmatic thing too far.

It’s a wake up call to the idiots on here who thought we only needed 4 new players
Let’s put this utter nonsense to bed. No one ever said we needed 4. Some said that was what we’d get.,Which we have. Awoniyi and Pinnock are squad fillers. Hamer - no idea. Which leaves you with Amenda, Cherif, Tchouana and Yirenkyi.

You said exactly that. Dont try and hide it now.

The OP usually talks rubbish but he has a point. If Lampard was sticking with players out of a supposed loyalty he really needs to use today as an excuse to rip that up. It's not too late, but it will be soon.

Awoniyi has started 4 out of 5 games since he’s been here.

There were so many people on here that pretty much said we won the league easily, didn’t need much more - those of us who kept pointing out the gap is huge were written off.

shmeeee was batted off when he said Grimes and Onyeka weren’t good enough.

Then there was the one poster who suggested we started with Thomas and Kitching ahead of Amenda.

That was Cally Fedora haha.

I've been banging the drum that our most important signing was that experienced CM to rally us. Onyeka I feel can be fine but he needs that inspirational CM next to him.

Lampard, and lots of fans nailed there flags to the grimes mast and its coming back to haunt them now.

David was one who was constantly telling me off for "writing off Grimes" but it was just evident

I had rose coloured glasses on at times wanting people to step up but did think we needed to sign some experience in the middle someone like Georginio Wijnaldum
Sadly I’d admit Grimes, EMC, MVE do not look up to the level and it hurts saying it about MVE and EMC more than Grimes. I’m also very much questioning the Rushworth signing, we’ve paid a big fee for someone who for me doesn’t look ready for the level, and his distribution isn’t great this season.

No, you said we'd get four significant signings.

We didn't, we got:

Rushworth, Yirenkyi, Amenda, Tchaouna, Ghobo, Hamer, Pinnock, Awoniyi, Cherif.

Whether they are the good signings or not is a different matter, but they were all brought in to play a significant role in the squad, and for significant money.

Your statement that you reference above was demonstrated to be the nonsense that it initially appeared.

I’m not in panic mode yet. I’m annoyed at Lampard, we’ve bought 150m worth of players, yet he’s not playing half of them. Hamer is better than Grimes, Yirenkiyi is our record signing, Tchanoa is our best winger. Gboho didn’t even make the bench - Cherif another who is raw but I get why Awoniyi starts and he’ll come good - damaged us badly with that stupid elbow

Hamer is quite clearly nowhere near the standard and its looking a baffling signing, that looks purely done to get the fans excited.

I dont believe we would sign anyone that Lampard wasnt happy with.
Think Austin is behind the signings or at least presents the manager with options he has found. Strange that him and King were having a conversation that BBCCW said should be done in private not public after the game.

Some of us have been saying all summer we were nowhere near it and you've been right there trying to lord it when you've been shown to know fuck and all

This is the result of a shite window, leading to the manager not trusting whats been brought in and all involved not being at the level
