Missing Mid-week matches

I'm kinda like this - Wasnt a huge fan of the evening kick offs rushing around after work etc.

Think it's an age thing. Know fellas now in their 70s who used to go everywhere home and away, now dont bother with midweek games even at home.

I get for managers and players it’s much better not to have the relentless matches of the lower leagues, but is anybody else missing the mid-week matches? Feels like the break between games is huge all of sudden.

And before anybody moans, this isn’t ’oh being the premier league sucks thing’. I’m enjoying it, but just really miss this aspect of lower league football.

Yeah definitely, hopefully we get past Villa and have a good run in the League cup.

Unless you're physically disabled, I'd have thought even more reason to go. In fact if retired, unless I'm on a cruise ship in some far flung destination, then it's not like you have to get up for work and a midweek football game would break the monotony of being stuck with the family 24/7

Everyone's different. We were talking to a fella whos in his 80s and still goes every game.

I'm on about the fellas in their 70s in your post I quoted unless they've all just had a birthday today and were 79 yesterday :)

I absolutely miss them, in The Championship other than an international break if you had a bad result you knew there was a game around the corner to get yourselves back on track

I know. But just saying, getting on affects people differently.
I used to love mid week games when I was younger, find them ball ache now

Not many that desperate for a midweek football fix judging by the amount of tickets still left for Villa

Yeah, have to say v surprised by that for many reasons.

I liked the home midweek matches, not so much the away midweek games at the start to middle of the season.

The midweek games in the Championship have come earlier this season though haven’t they? Our first league midweek game last season was Millwall iirc which was a ballache to get home from.

Really enjoy evening games….certainly better than those circadian rhythm busting 12.30 kick offs from the Championship.
I'm with you there. There's just something about heading towards a fully lit stadium. Used to love having a few beers in the city centre and walking through Hillfields aiming towards the massive glow in the sky and having a beer or two more on the way whilst chatting football with everyone.

I suppose a lot of it is to do with health. Stumbling around in the cold and rain in the dark isn't that easy as you get older.

My retirement plans were based around flying in for games. It costs me about the same for two flights plus connections as it did to drive to games. Now after 25 years of mainly struggles and empty stadiums I have plenty of time to go to games, but because of our recent success I'm struggling to get tickets 🙄

How come? there are still 200 tickets available for Brighton 3 days out from the match and you don't even need a membership. Hull was similar. And you can choose a whole row to yourself for the Villa game.

To be fair here, there was only 1 or 2 seats available as of yesterday afternoon. The club have released another 210 tickets in the last 12 hours or so.

Me personally?

As I've put in another thread it's my wifes birthday this weekend. It's her 60th so I have to show my face. She is then flying over to the UK. I have to stay here for the kids.

Sometimes life just gets in the way. This is one of those times for me.

You said you couldn't get tickets due to the club's recent success.

Enjoy the birthday celebrations!

But anybody with a purchase history who had any desire to go could have got one even after the membership window closed, is the point I'm making.

Should have been a bit more clear.

I was comparing it to before last season. Away tickets are difficult even for those with a ST now. Before then I could get a ticket to just about any game. Cup away ties will be as bad as normal away tickets. Home league tickets are not too difficult ATM because of the price and our results, but once we get a few points on the board it will get more difficult, especially when the bigger clubs visit.

Its become outdated, with cost of living , cost of travel and also match days are now events at weekends rather than 90 minutes.

There are too many matches and crazy for level 3 and 4 clubs having large squads and travel expenses . 46 games in a season and the league cup is just no longer worthwhile.

I hate them. Must be getting old as I hate going after work and I hate getting home late and then getting up for work the next day. Although give me Friday night or Saturday night rather than 1230 sat or Sunday

The real test is in the winter (particularly if you're a bit older), when the team is struggling (and in the past when the stadium was barely half full). That felt more like a feat of endurance at times. Luckily, we've moved on from that (apart from the age bit!). Just hope that the team can pick up some results, before the 'entitled' start putting me on edge by turning on the players. I watched Chelsea v Leeds the other night, and the Leeds fans were magnificent sticking with the team, despite having thrown away a 2 goal lead. The crowd can make such a difference. Stay with the team v Brighton (or anybody else), even if we're up against it.

Mid week games at St. Andrews were the lowest Ive felt supporting City. Depressing.

Partly agree - the concourse was so grim too (which added to the misery). Luckily, we managed to perform regularly on the pitch, which greatly offset the experience (had we been having a poor season, it would have been nigh on unbearable).

Yeah I mean those were exceptional circumstances as we were playing every game away so those mid-week matches were tough. I have to say I disagree with those who enjoy 12.30pm kick offs. Always a poor atmosphere and really messes with my Saturday.

If your wife is 60 how old are the 'kids'?

Youngest two are 16 and 17....nearly 17 and 18. Daughter is 18 in less than 2 weeks. Both at college miles apart. Someone has to be here for all the running around needed 🙄

Sounded like a good idea at the time. Didn't consider retirement with kids still about 😂
