It's too early to say. We've signed a few players that we don't realistically know how they'll do in the Premier League, and the same goes for the existing squad and their ability to step up, which there are clearly question marks over.

Maybe we are all frustrated at the results, but if we are signing players for 20 million then I expect an instant impact. I haven't really seen that yet.

Some of our business looks good potentially so once they gel it might be fine, and why I am not panicking. That said, we have been slow, and we have players still here that I maybe wouldn't have expected. Part of me wonders if the reason was that we were celebrating a bit too long.
This.

Part of success of a window is how ready made players are to jump in.

Stroud for Hull for example. Couple million, some laughed and said Championship signing, but hes started the last 2 and played well.

There are definitely people on this thread who post online product reviews before they've even used them!

Championship team yesterday with two additions. Very poor transfer window. Lack of out going is a concern. And so slow to get deals done. From amenda to rushworth deal was too long. We seem to get an offer accepted then it takes nearly a week complete it. You see other teams agreed and done in 24hours. Feel like Doug didn't want to spend on the wages until the last minute.

Agree with this, and it’s why I said in another thread if Cherif isn’t pushing for a start by January it has to be regarded as a poor use of funds, regardless of whether he turns into a £50-60m striker in a couple of years’ time.

Two additions?

Before we kicked off I was generally happy with the business. And if the aim of the recruitment was to buy players that we make money on then it’s likely to have been a success. But whether it’s enough to keep us up I am not convinced. We probably end up selling Yirenkyi and Cherif for a combined £100m in a couple of years but if we’ve seen a reduction in TV income of c.£60m a year is that still regarded as successful recruitment?

Agreed. Could also flip that around and we buy a load of experienced players with far less potential sell on and still get relegated, so a lose lose.

I’ve seen so many players written off by our supporters way to quickly in recent years, some were still doing it around Christmas, so the rush to judgement doesn’t really surprise me.

It’s obvious we have gambled on cheap unproven players to cut costs, it’s still early days to judge these players yet. Let’s see where we are after 10 games.

Oh any recruitment strategy has an element of risk to it otherwise there would be a defined blueprint of what you need to do. I just think we’ve chosen a fairly high risk strategy. When you’ve spent £22m or whatever on a 19 year old kid only for them not to be regarded as fit enough to even make the bench, questions need to be asked.

What are you asking us to rate the window against? We COULD win the next 5 and you’ll be offering to pull Doug off again..

Im asking in your opinion how do you think we have done, have we covered positions we've expected, have we sold who you expected. its not hard of a ceoncept to grasp

5.

Doesn’t matter how they perform in the last two games we’ve bought a couple of great players and spent a shit load more money than most folks thought we would.

Only issue I can see is that some of them we won’t make back our money Pinnock, Bentley, Taiwo & Loum.

But squad has got better for the signings-how much better is debatable.

Only really know by January.

You don’t think we make our money back on Tchaouna? Christ alive.

You would think there would be one BIG out.( Simms/Eccles/Torp).with a few small transfers out..and bit like Sheaf last year...Palmer year b4 and Hyam year b4 that.

Just hoping that money wages go on

RLC
Timori
Or Mudryc

Players of that ilk.

We need a rabbit out the hat. Just one.

No-I don’t think anyone would buy him for more than 20m if we get relegated or if we stay up.

We paid 1.5M for Tatsu and 4m for EMC for Comparison.

Very mixed. Rushworth, Amenda and Yirenkyi are excellent additions. The latter two particularly will increase in value.
Bentley is a very bizarre signing. Pinnock, I can understand but 6m seems an awful lot for a 33 year old.
Tchaouna and Cherif are big money gambles but too early to say. Awoniyi adds a bit of quality. Hamer I see as an option but not at LM.
Mfuni will be interesting. Will quality override lack of experience?
Hopefully Woolfenden's injury will not prevent him leaving.

Looks like we just bought which ever players on Deans watchlist that became available than actually trying to put together a balanced squad.

Bentley isn't really bizarre, on paper he's an upgrade over Wilson in every way.

A solid 7 so far, its nowhere near as bad as some think, maybe a backup LB and LW would have been nice, and an experienced starting number 6 like Hojbjerg. However what we have done is good, I like the Yirenkyi, Awoniyi, Tchaouna, Amenda signings a lot, I think the Pinnock, Hamer, Cherif, Mfuni signings are decent and better than who they replace from last season

Think getting Hamer up speed is key for us, can imagine that 3 week international break will be used for pure fitness for him. Yirenkyi/Onyeka, Gus, Rudi is a solid midfield

Hamer didn't disgrace himself last time in the premier league but putting hopes on him is desperation.

Given that other teams in this division are spending £40-£50m on players that I would rate as average we are very much working in bargain basement territory. We needed a big upgrade and to achieve that with not much more outlay than a single player costs the top teams is a massive ask.
I think it is decent business but it won't keep us in the division. We haven't got enough goals in the team.

lol is it obvious? This is speculative and subjective at best. I could frame this the exact opposite way and it would be just as "obvious".

"It's obvious our strategy is to land exceptional young talent with a very high ceiling to give us maximal profit opportunities whether we stay in the league or not."

I don't think anything is "obvious", and likely won't be for anyone except DK, FL, DA.

This window might be a 10/10 or a 1//10 for them based on their intention - we won't know.

But everyone likes suggesting that their subjective perspective is truth.

Just nonsense.

Rushworth - Paid way too much for him but he proved himself last year as a top Championship keeper, lets hope he can step up
Bentley - Looks awful, he can't be better than Wilson
Amenda - Looks great, we will sell him next summer for double what we paid for him
Pinnock - Experienced Premier League defender just what we need
Onyeka - A good pick up, I hope he's not past his best.
Yirenkyi - Will hopefully turn out to be a good signing but bar is flick to setup Awoniyi, haven't seen anything to justify what we paid for him
Awoniyi - Was Forest's 4th choice striker so wasn't expecting much but think he could be a shrewd signing if he stays fit
Tchaouna - Hard to justify what we paid for him, there are better wingers in the Championship who we could have got for a quarter of the price
Hamer - A signing to placate the fans
Cherif - Bizarre signing, the last thing we need is a development foreign player who may be good in 3 years time
Mfuni - N/A

I voted 4/10. Its obviously too early to judge, they could all come good, but I can only judge on what I have seen so far.

Don't agree Hamer was a signing to placate the fans and I was more against bringing him back than most.

When fit and firing he offers something no one else in the squad does. It's the fit and firing bit I have issue with and which the club need to sort out.

That's fair but it feels like our recruitment 'strategy' is to build a team that will get relegated, then get promoted again next year (like Ipswich 2 years ago) rather than to make signings that will keep us up (like Sunderland last year).

Financially it makes sense and will keep us stable (if we can get promoted straightaway), but there's a chance we could do a Luton/Leicester and get back-to-back relegations if we get it completely wrong.

We could spend a fortune and still go down, there's no guarantees, but I was expecting us to make more Amenda like signings, young but with experience who could make the step up immediately, and fewer 'development' type signings ala Cherif.

I’m still fretting we don’t get ridiculous offer in the next couple of hours for someone i don’t want to see gone. I’ll cast a vote then

Who could that be?

Who could that be?
Doug’s spent more than I thought he would so let’s say someone came in with crazy offer for Rudoni ,MVE for instance, would he sell based on his model of turning a profit on players in the hope that the rest of our ‘deck’ is sufficient? I’m just being cautious on this last day of trading

I dont think either would get the interest that means we would sell them
