The great conundrum of English football is 'what is the point of it all if you don't support one of the big clubs?'. I think we are going to find out this season that the reality of being one of the 'others' in the Premier League is that it's shite. In the eyes of most of the world you exist only as fodder for the big teams to play against throughout the season. The only times your results matter is when you play the big 6 and even if you have a good season, or a good few seasons, the best it'll ever get is a big win vs Man United, Liverpool or Arsenal, maybe a cup final, maybe a season in Europe if you're super lucky. But inevitbaly, either at the end of one season, or maybe after 5 years, maybe 10, your go at the big league will be over and you'll be back in the Championship with the sense 'huh, maybe it's not too bad down here after all'. The last few years for us have been the perfect purgatory of knocking on the door of the 'promised land', winning loads of games and having fun but without the recent reminder that the so-called promised land isn't really all it's built up to be.
