I haven’t watched much PL football over the past few years but happened to catch the Spurs vs Leeds match this week and was trying to imagine how we might fare against that level of opposition next season. It was pretty turgid stuff and l was somewhat optimistic that, perhaps with some more quality additions, we might hold our own in similar matches.
Then l also saw the highlights of the Villa vs Liverpool game. Villa were such high quality and l began to wonder how we might get on against that level of opposition too.

Whatever happens, it will be a learning curve for all and we have faith in FL and his team to do their very best for us. Exciting times ahead.

If there's clubs like Wolves, West Ham and Spurs this season we will have a decent chance of staying up.....as long as we get our recruitment right.

If we beat Ipswich and whoever else goes up again we only have to beat one other club.

I watched the Spurs vs Leeds game and thought both would have beaten us comfortably.

No reflection on next season, but it's just dawned on me we have failed to beat promoted Ipswich and both of the play off finalists this season', and failed to score in 4 of those 6 games.

Ipswich won't be able to get away with going down like they've been shot whenever you get within 6 feet of them with VAR.

1-1 away to Southampton with only 10 men for half the game was a decent result. If it's Middlesbrough there's no competition.

We have to be better then 3 other teams , I would be surprised if Ipswich keep hold of their manager so that might be in our favour , hopefully hull come up and will struggle in my opinion. Sunderland got their recruitment right but might struggle next season and then all we need is any other team to get a massive points deduction . No problem

If it's Middlesbrough, that's 6 points already banked! 🤣

119 International caps not impressive?
35 in September and last 2 seasons very poor isn't impressive.

Never mind. If he continues to play he will eventually reach his level when he gets as far down as walking football.

I’m optimistic about next season. Gut feeling is that we’ll recruit well because of Lampard and as a tactician, I back Lampard to adapt our style and keep us up.
Agree, he'll make a big difference in terms of the players we'll recruit.

I'd be delighted if we stay up by a single goal.

Loads of people said that in our first season back in the Championship, then proceeded to moan like fuck when we played like a team in a relegation battle!

I'm dreading the moaning more than any on fields struggles. Its going to be tough, the step up is huge, people just need to accept that.

The gulf is bigger than the championship/League one in 2021. I was impressed how quickly we adapted but the premier league is a different animal.

it’s not just the speed, quality and intensity - it’s the media scrutiny, VAR, the spectacle. The football league and the premier league are almost 2 different games

the one thing we have in our favour is that Lampard is already experienced in it, knows the ins and outs.

Sunderland will upgrade

Yes but that was then.

We had retards booing 0-0 v Oxford. Imagine what it will be like 4-0 against someone at half time?

I'm 90% certain we will go down but we will put up a good fight. I think it will be the toughest premier league in over a decade next season and I just don't see us pumping enough money in to keep us up.

I do however think Doug will build/spend in the right way that then sets us up to bounce straight back and be in a much better position next time we come up.

All we can ask for is to have a good go of it and enjoy the season, that's what I want from it and I trust that will happen. And if I'm wrong then even better!

Who did we add to the League 1 winning team that summer? Hamer, Sheaf, Wilson, Ostigard, Matty Hames, Tyler Walker? Ryan Giles? These were championship ready players, i think we probably need to add the same number of Prem ready players

we Haven’t waited 25 years to not have a proper go at staying up, mid table👍, no reason why we can’t do what Brighton, Brentford and Bournemouth have done, club size we’re probably bigger than all of them

Il be extremely peed off if we go up and dont really have a go rather just prepare incrementally for a year we might be able to come back up and compete

I fully agree.

Those of us that see us as having a decent chance of staying up keep getting reminded of the gulf between the Championship and the Prem. We state the reasons for why we think so but they're brushed off. But at any point that we're struggling those who kept reminding us of the gulf will be amongst those saying how crap we are and that we should be doing better.

I will be treating a draw like a win and celebrating every win as though we've won something of importance. It isn't going to be easy but we will keep picking up points along the way.
