Can we keep in mind that this is an event organised by one place of worship and be critical of it without using it as a stick to beat millions of people with incl. a Mayor who probably had no clue it was happening?

If we can't, we risk coming across as a bunch of pr*cks looking for an excuse to shout about people we don't like. Folks get excluded from all sorts of stuff because of all kinds of religious practices.

e.g. women couldn't be priests or have senior roles in the church. Religions and people who are involved in running places of worship aren't likely to be the type to bend towards outside norms at breakneck pace.

What a strange response

Have you got a better source?

That's the Mail. Not saying it's wrong, but I don't believe a single thing they say.

Er it’s written as an opinion piece by a Muslim woman?

I did actually give a quick read.

Shame, because the sentiment is very valid, but it's full of wokery jibes and goes at the left wing and mayor.

Just needs the facts stating doesn't it. Could make exactly the same point.

I think it's awful that her dad wouldn't let her ride her bike and this exclusion is just wrong.

Ask yourself: how long would a Jewish or Christian run excluding women go ahead without sparking national outrage?
This is where she lost me, I’m afraid. She’s asking the question in a Daily Mail column on the day of the race!

The level of “national outrage” suggests to me that thankfully the sharia takeover is at least a few more sexist fun runs away.

Thanks. In the meantime, do you need help working the quote function?

Not really no. It’s interesting how you frantically try and deflect subjects like this.

Do you feel slightly dirty and ashamed deep down?

I was commenting on my own post as your laughing emoji was clearly the beginning of the predictable deflection

Did you want a discussion on the op-ed you posted or not?

I feel pretty good! Are you feeling happy today?

Is it not time that people admit.they were wrong. That the Muslim faith is backwards, old fashioned, out of touch, sexist, homophobic.... I could go on but I havent got all night.

To say as such isnt racist, it isnt islamaphobic, its calling it for what it is! Many Muslims dont follow their religion to the word. As with many Jews, Christians, Sikhs etc. They generally live by the bits that say "be good, nice people". But there are parts of Islam, and people.that live by them as a rule of life, that are just plain fucking crazy! Nobody can deny it. Its there in black and white. But to call it for what it is, is classed as racist or islamiphobic. Its bollocks! If an christian church set up a fun run and banned women, it would be front page news for days. People on here would be calling chritian faith appalling and outdated! Yet a Muslim group does it, and were cant say anything bad as "its only one organisation"!

Its bullshit, and you know it is!

But haven't you contradicted yourself there?

That there are parts within Islam that is just crazy.

Agree.

But before that you said the Islamic faith is backwards.

Said many a time, I know and have known some lovely Muslim people.

There is a problem within Islam, but let's not make sweeping "Islam is backwards" statements.

And no-one was trying to excuse it in saying it was just one mosque. For me, I was relieved that it was just one mosque. We have had problems with individual mosques before haven't we and where they were teaching hatred.

We just have to stop tarring them all with the same brush.

"Islam is backwards" does not help.

All religions have crazy followers. I’d class Christians who think victims of rape should be denied abortions as crazy, for example.

And now you have fundamentalist Christians who want to take us back to ancient scripture. So, no homosexuality, women as subservient to men etc., so no women priests etc, or women in positions of power

I do worry more about the extremism within Islam, but am also concerned about the trend to take us backwards within some sections of the Christian faith.

so to make sure I'm keeping up, the country which is driving the narrative of mainstream politics in the West having huge chunks of it's policy dictated by religious nutjobs is fine and we should follow their lead, but a mosque excludes young females from a fun run and that's a legitimate basis for having a(nother) casual Islam bashing sesh and a load of think pieces on integration? F*cking hell.

"Islam is backwards" does not help.

It isn’t really one mosque as it’s the only such event that is actually run. It’s sponsored on the biggest Muslim fund raising site in the uk.
