Most of what you are saying is correct, but I expect it will trigger a few on here.

None of that is to say that he can't come good. He may well turn into a superstar. He is still very young and has a lot of time to develop. At the moment though he looks like a very underwhelming signing that cost a lot of money, and I'm not sure I can take any arguments that he's playing well particularly seriously.
His play on the whole is so passive. Tame efforts at goal, gets easily shrugged off the ball and rarely makes use of his pace.

We’re at a point with Simms where he’s been written off so therefore those will only see bad.

Today he made a poor decision to pass to Godden first half, should have been stronger against their defender in a one on one and then the obvious miss early in the second half.

However, he also held the ball up, provided a number of lay offs and good link play, evidenced direct running and movement.

Clearly isn’t the finished article and is in desperate need of a goal, but he’s clearly got potential and can lead the line for us given a chance and a needed confidence boost.

That is demonstrably bullshit! He held up nearly everything that was played to him. He made some decent passes to bring other players in. He harried their defence and caused chaos. But all anyone remembers (rightly) is that he absolutely fucked up that chance at the start of the 2nd half.

Looks so devoid of confidence. He needs a run through the middle without Godden and with O'Hare and Tats to be busy around him. He will come good if we don't break his spirts first
Chaos? He was a passenger and offered nothing.

He did not do a good job at holding the ball up, certainly wouldn’t watch tonight and think ‘he’s a target man’. And if you do, that’s fair enough, but you’re in a minority.

How can you say 100% he will come good? No one yet knows do they? He’s not good at the minute and struggling. He may turn it round but there’s equal possibility he won’t

He will come good. Is just lacking alot of confidence. Still contributes alot (more than Godden).

Well yeah at least we shouldn’t get rid for £500k and he’s not a Sunday league player

I was not keen on signing him back in the summer, and was hopeful Ipswich would do so. However the chopping and changing of him in the starting line up has not helped. He performed admirably against Southampton and Leeds United, started to build a good understanding with Wright and was then dropped without good reason for the matches against two poorer sides. It’s all hypothetical now, but I wonder if he might have kept up that run and form going, maybe he might have scored in one of those games and his confidence would be higher.

I’m not saying Simms won’t improve and come good but we can’t wait for that we need goals now and apart from that we need COH also he was missed big time tonight, just tell Burnley and any others to do one Doug

Thought he played well tonight should have had a penalty I think Goddens days in the championship are numbered he ran around a lot but his yard of pace is gone

He'll always be Sky Blue Marmite.

You either like his contributions or you dislike him. Robins is obviously in the 'like' half otherwise he wouldn't play him. And at the end of the day, his is the only opinion that matters.

There are two points for me. 1) He wears Sky Blue so I’ll get behind him. 2) He’s a poor player. I think if we’d got Wright prior to him we wouldn’t have signed him. But hey, I’ve cheered on Darby, Jenkinson, Woods, Gayle etc so there’s no reason I won’t do the same for Simms.

Desperate for simms to do well but just looks miles off it, He’s so frustrating, maybe he just needs a goal same as wright, we’re doing brilliant really considering wrights the only decent forward ,plenty of goals coming from midfield so we’re getting way with it for now, but robins must see something in simms so that’ll do for me

I mostly see someone who has some great physical attributes and a strong shot on him but isn’t using any of them anywhere near enough.

I know what you are saying, but IMO it's nothing like an equal possibility. In time, it's much more likely that he'll be a big success for us than that he'll be a failure.

Still think he will come good in the end. Youngest player in the squad. He was poor on the whole tonight with a few good moments. Still contributed twice as much as Godden who really needs to go

Wright was coming to us before the play off final IIRC. Simms only came up from Everton’s bid for Vik I think.

Think he was unlucky tonight. He almost got a penalty for a barge in the back but ref gave a goalkick. DaSilva was penalised and carded a bit later for doing the same up on the halfway line. Another day and he's got the SBA cheering his persistence. Think he showed some good vision when laying off the ball again and his run timing is getting better. Don't see him getting caught offside that often now.

But he has just lost the confidence to take a punt on himself. Always seems to second guess himself and either turns back into trouble or can't decide how to strike it and fluffs the shot.

Godden and Simms just haven’t had any real chances to work with the last few games.

Simms looks bereft of confidence, but still contributed more than Godden did tonight. Should have had at least 1 assist (Allen) and a stone wall penalty. He is only relatively young still, so could potentially get better. Think about how raw Leon Best was when we signed him at a not too dissimilar age to Simms and the player he was when we sold him to Newcastle.

Godden has scored just once in his last 19 games against championship opposition, we definitely need to get a replacement in now, that can take the pressure off Simms, Wright and Godden.

You can see what the thinking was when we signed him, hes big, mobile and scored goals everywhere prior to here. Still hopeful under our coaching that he will put it all together but time will tell.

We just need more options up there really in general. We only have 4 real options for 3 slots. Simms, Wright, Godden and Tats for the front 3 positions. It’s nowhere near enough is it?
