Strikers that could replace vik (2 Viewers)

his hit rate on strikers isn’t always great and a lot don’t work here

I disagree personally. He's brought in JCH, McNulty, Biamou, Hiwula, Chaplin, Bakayoko, Godden, Walker, Gyökeres, Waghorn and Sean Maguire.

McNulty, Godden and Gyökeres have been incredible signings. 2 have been the most important players in promotion seasons and I don't need to say anymore about Vik. No matter how much you hate Biamou, he came to us in League 2 and played nearly 100 games for us up to the Championship.

JCH and Chaplin didn't quite work out for us, but have gone on to be the top two scorers in League 1.

Hiwula and Walker both scored a reasonable amount of goals. Both fell away.

Waghorn was a very poor signing with the wages and he was forced into getting Maguire out of desperation and lack of support from above.

Compared to what came before Robins, that's not bad.

£4m for Yates
If Vik goes to Everton then Simms comes to us as part of a cash plus player deal or season long loan.
Joao on a free transfer.
My cousins are Everton season ticket holders and have heard this is a potential option. But think they have to sort out their ownership first.

Signed Leon Clarke in his first spell, McNulty in L2, Godden in L1, Vik in the Championship. Your bias is showing again.

he also signed Chaplin, Clarke Harris waghorn Bakayoko and Walker

Chaplin and JCH who are the top two scorers in L1 this season, and I think both sold for a profit. Walker was fine first season up and a good shout based on previous form. You’re reaching.

Clarke Harris was sold for free - Chaplin was sold for a minor profit - they weren’t successes here it’s not me whose reaching and to even pretend Walker wasn’t a flop - that’s a World Record long jump

@shmmeee ‘for decades’ we were playing at a higher level, since dropping to league one we’ve had Wilson, Mcgoldrick, Clarke, McNulty, Armstrong and Murphy who were capable of 20 goals. It’s ridiculous to suggest Robins found 20 goal a season players where other managers can’t as other managers did.

The years in league 1 and 2 are incomparable to the years of premier league and championship football prior to that regardless.

What JCH and Chaplin do after leaving is irrelevant but if anything proves Grendel right about Robins handling of strikers. I’d suggest his hit rate is around 50% with strikers which isn’t bad but like Grendel said isn’t great either.

If we bring in 3 this summer, it’s vital that 1 has a great season or 2 have good ones.

They were signed as League 1 players and are now the best 2 in League 1.

We outgrew them too quickly and replaced them with Godden for just £700k

Think one of the Vik’s biggest attributes that needs replacing is the fact that he rarely misses a game or gets injured - despite getting battered by centre backs all game. Fantastic fitness levels.

Wonder how much one of the Milwall strikers would cost? A lot probably.
I'd look at following players if strikers/midfielders.....
Bishop at Portsmouth 20gls 4ast.
Nombe at Exeter 15gls 7ast.
Brown at Exeter 9 gls 12 ast.
May at Cheltenham 20gls 3 ast.
Rak-Sakyi Charlton 15gls 8ast.

To put into context the task - most think godden is now at best a reserve back up and most think Allen isn’t good enough so if the other two go that’s 48 out of 64 goals gone

I don’t see how we outgrew them - they weren’t ever suited to the way we played them

It's a massive summer, no doubt about it. Just have to hope Robins gets it right, and it isn't like when we lost Keane and McAllister's goals in one summer without adequately replacing them. 😫

I think realistically it's a summer of rebuild, and mid-table would be a likely achievement, and not bad at all if we're bedding in some young players with potential future Viks, Gus' and Hyams etc. And maybe even a new system to match their strengths.

I know it doesn't sound ideal and puts a stop to the incremental improvements, but realistically it's our best bet of improving long term if we can go from having 2/3 incredible players and a below average squad, to having a whole 11 capable of competing with top 6 and even threatening top 2 once Robins and Adi get 6 months or so of development into them.

That's not to say I'm writing us off next year, I wouldn't put it past Robins to get us into the playoffs again, but the size of the task is massive, and there's so much potential for it to not go too well!

Overall I trust the process, but emotionally, I want to keep Gus at all costs 😅

But the ones he's really wanted, spent ages chasing and spent a decent fee on, Chaplin and Walker, didn't work out. We've also signed others that didn't perform.

I just feel that he doesn't get it right with strikers as often. Maybe it's because he was a striker himself and I expect him to spot a good forward.

Is he, he's had one good season.

If Luton don't want to rival Derby they need better players. Anything less and it's see you in 2 years
Bournemouth kept Wilson, Brentford kept Toney and Mbeumo, Leeds kept Bamford, Forest kept Johnson, Southampton kept Lambert, Leicester kept Vardy, villa paid £32m for Watkins after 1 good season. None of them were proven in the PL but fitted in the clubs system.

Happens at every club at every level. Chelsea let Salah and De Bruyne go for example

Chaplin went to a higher club and Clarke Harris he just fell out with

We need to replace his goals. Don't need a like for like replacement. We adapted how we played this season because we didn't have O'Hare and then Palmer got injured. I'm hoping they'll just grab two players that should get 10+ goals each with Godden as back up. Ideally both have some pace.

Liam Delap on loan, can see him being an option, think Man City will be happy to see younger players come here to develop. Think he could be 1 of 2 or 3 strikers to come in.
