I was a guest of a company in Munich (that used to do work for us) back in the early nineties. They hosted us one evening in the Augustiner 'tent' (feckin massive, like the others on the Weise) at Oktoberfest. Messy night, but suffice to say I've been a fan of their beer ever since.
I also love a drop of Kuppers Kolsch (spent plenty of time on Ford business in Koln too).
And purely through visiting friends in Heidelberg, I really like Eichbaum too.
I'd recommend Beer52 online to anyone who likes decent beer as well. The last case I had was a very good selection of 'pale', 'APA', German, Belgian, far eastern brews.
Finally, if in the area after the restrictions, I'd urge anyone to visitthe Buxton Brewery (central, right by the Opera House). Very pleasant 'tap' with a great selection of beers and snap.
Oh, and don't forget Beer Gonzo as mentioned elsewhere.

They sell one or two Buxton beers in my local Tesco, was going to order from them directly actually as I'm only 13 miles away. Really decent.

I was quite surprised, actually, at the Buxton one in the Beer52 case. Prob my least favourite of the case, which was a surprise. Think it was a limited variation of Axe Edge, called Ace Edge I think. Same strength (6.8) but as far as I can tell, different hop blend. Not bad, but not as nice as Axe Edge.

I kinda miss Davenports. Never used the lorry delivery, but two of my locals in the seventies - The Bell at Ladbroke, and the Napton Bridge, were Davvy houses. My taste in beer has changed somewhat in the interim though!Davenport's were so ahead of the game,and Corona Lol.
In Southam, Windmill Hill Brewery www.whbrewery.co.uk. Taster box 12 x 500ml bottles for £30 with free delivery, all very good.

Augustiner is lovely. I remember they used to do it at Inspire in town as well.
Really recommend the Edelstoff one too if you've not tried it

Me too. Or any cheap, cold lager on a hot day, or something like Bombadier, Timmy Taylor’s, or London Pride if I’m in somewhere like The Nursery and want a warm beer (pub rather than childcare, they don’t like me drinking in the latter for some reason).

Bit of a geek for nice beers - I am even one of those people who review beers on Instagram (don't judge me too much!)....it is the only time I really use social media but it is a good excuse to visit a new pub/brewery/tap room whenever we go somewhere new (at least before the world ended!) and we get the odd freebie/gifts from different breweries/pubs.
Used to work pretty closely with a small independent beer subscription service who recently sold to Beer52 - they seem the best of the big suppliers.
Father in Law dropped round a keg of Tempest Modern Helles Lager he got from a supplier today (he is strictly a cider man) so looking forward to trying that during the game later. Not a lager fan, but I find a lot of good "lagers" these day are actually very similar to craft ales and quite enjoyable.
I see a few Aldi beers recommended on this thread - next time you visit, try the Pineapple Push Milkshake IPA. It will overpower the pallet after a few, but if in the mood for a different beer, it is full of flavour and not overly sweet.
DigBrew are one of my favourites local (ish) breweries as well - everything they produce is great. Church End is another recommended local (ish) brewery for more traditional ales (i.e. not craft).
I could talk about ale all day, so I will stop now before this becomes even more of an essay.

I certainly agree with you on Beer52. Myself and my younger son-in-law both use it, and are seldom disappointed.
On the Aldi side of things, and enjoying a good Hell myself too, my dragon brought these home the other day, so might crack one or two terneet!

I haven't tried that one, as even though I dont mind Helles/Craft type lager I will plump for ale if I have a choice - and Aldi has a decent enough range of craft beers. What was it like?
The Tempest Helles was nice - fairly malty and the usual characteristics you would expect. Still got a fair bit of the keg left so I will have more tonight!

Titanic - Plum Porter (available in most supermarkets)
Blue Monkey - Chocolate Guerrila
DigBrew - Thoughts and Prayers (8% though!!)
Titanic - Cherry Dark
Brew York - Tonkoko (Milk Stout - vanilla and coconut taste)
Neptune Brewery - On The Bounty (Cocunut and chocolate stout) - basically like drinking a bounty!
Sam Smith - Organic Chocolate Stout

Sam Smith Chocolate Stout is beautiful, very rich but perfect for this time of year. They sell it in a Wholefoods shop near me. I recommend the Saltaire brewery one too. Young's is nice as well.

Not the best TBF. Not to my taste anyway. A bit 'sharp' but not in a hop-bitter kind of way if you follow?.
I do like really bitter, hoppy (and citrusy) beers over the darker more malty-sweet ones, but it takes all sorts eh?

Haha I do like a flavoured stout/porter as opposed to a plain one. Old Growler by Nethergate Brewery is a nice traditional one.

The local Co-op have a 4 for £7 offer on ales which is pretty good value wise. I tend to head straight to the craft section but it’s mainly “boring” stuff, in the sense it’s nothing unique and are widely available (Meantime, Brewdog, Camden Hells, Goose Island etc) - all good beers but nothing different.
Looked at the Cask section for a change and picked up a Montys Brewery Figgy Pudding and a Rudgate Brewey Evil Elf. Both new beers and Montys is a new brewery too. I wouldn’t usually plump for those but always up for a novelty beer.

It's crazy how much things have improved....when I moved overseas just a few years ago, I would have lost my mind to see Brewdog and Goose Island in a supermarket. Now that's considered nothing special!

Things have definitely evolved, it’s only the last couple of years places have started to stock craft stuff. It’s not spread to the smaller corner shop/Nisa’s etc yet though. At least not near me. Same with pubs, more and more offer real ales, and occasionally even a craft. They tend to be standard ones, but still good to see.
Where overseas are you? Good selection?
