Transfer Rumour Marcel Hilsner (4 Viewers)

Is he right sided or left sided?
The fact he's left footed suggests he's Left Winger, but his FUT card and a few reports above suggest he's Right Wing...

The highlight reel showed most of his goals coming from the right, a few set piece deliveries and couple of assists from the left. Seems to be a versatile player who can play across midfield.

Can someone confirm how his surname is spelled, or have we signed four fucking Germans ?

Marcel Hilssner: Coventry City sign German winger from FC Paderborn

Hilssner. The thing that looks like a 'B' is a German letter that represents double s.

Who also played for the same team as Jobello in 2017.

I trust the recruitment team on this one, they’ve done their bit to get us up the league. As long as Hilßner fits a certain playing style and personality, I’m sure he could make an impact. However, I’m sceptical that we’ve signed a Div 3 player to start in the Championship.
Bit like when we signed an unknown full back from Wealdstone, then in the top flight... his name ? Stuart Pearce ! Bobby Gould had a knack of signing unknown players from the lower leagues. Our recruiting team have been watching him for 6 months.

Our whole team are Div 3 players who will start in the Championship.

Looks fast. Can pick a pass and can Score long rangers

YT vids mean little but take the positives. No negatives till we see him play or someone makes a YT compilation of his mistakes.

Seems like a squad players who has a good left foot and they want to try and bring the best out of him. Just not sure where he fits atm.

If you've got a num pad it's ALT+0223, on iPhone hold down the 's' key, otherwise you need to set up an international keyboard and to right ALT + s

The fact you know that impresses me, here take my virtual high 5

Bordering on Niclas Alexandersson levels of versatility here (IYKYK)
Loved that, D/M/FRLC. Then when he signed for Sheff Wed they changed him into just a midfielder I think! Still, even FM doesn't think that he's a wingback. Think it might be what we are going to try with him though.

True.

Minus Allen, McFadz and Kelly I don’t think any of our team has played Championship football (at least off the top of my head). I do believe a good number of our starters are good enough to make the grade in the Championship.

Since posting that, I have remembered that the German 3rd Division is our L1 equivalent, not a L2 equivalent. So my initial reaction was based on a belief that he was a 4th tier player as opposed to a 3rd tier player.

For some reason, I thought the Bundesliga was structured like the EFL.

Or it could be the next Hussey or Simpson, were both Conference player of the year at the time but never Championship standard, sadly. But hopefully this is a data based signing that works out massively.

Generally there and others such as French and Dutch third division have been considered much lower standard than ours. They were regional and semi-pro not that long ago and there's a couple of reserve sides from big clubs in it. The average attendance last season was just over 6,000, lower than our L1 and about the same as Southend/Shrewsbury.

Agreed.

The consensus is that our football pyramid is a lot stronger than its continental counterparts. As you point out, most 3rd/4th divisions in Europe were regional divisions and mostly semi-pro teams or reserve teams for bigger clubs.

I’m hopeful this signing will be a good one, but I maintain that I’d be surprised if he’s been brought in as a 1st choice option.

3 year deal for not being a first choice option - I doubt it, with all the frees about that don't ring right. Must have something about him, has a sweet left foot, we will all have to wait and see :)..anyhow sure bet to be taking our penalties

For anyone that follows football analytic accounts on Twitter, BA Analytics responds on that thread with:

"I watch more 3. Liga than any sane British person 😂😂 Yes i know the player, very direct winger/forward, fair amount of dribbling/Ball carrying, lots of shots from various areas. Physically should adapt fine, interested to see what role he has"

Criticism of one footed left footed players always annoys me as it gets mentioned way more than one footed right footed players.
Plus it touches a nerve as I'm left footed myself. But right handed so I'm not a total dork.

Was going to agree until the last sentence - pick a side and stick to it!

(although I eat right handed and bat right handed)

Am left footed and left handed in everything but writing where I tend to use right as was forced to at school. I can write left handed but it feels more ‘natural’ to hold pen in my right.

Bit of an odd one on the face of it.

Not that young so not brought in for development.
Predominantly a winger which we don't play with.
Can play down the middle but we've got quite a few ACM's already.

Still, good luck to him.

Don't give a shit if he's left or right footed tbh as long as he sticks the ball in the net a few times for us ..more interested now on what striker we are going to bring in to help us out..maybe the german striker from wolves may be on the cards but again he is unproven ?

I imagine those sceptical thoughts were there when Vardy signed for Leicester he hasn’t done too bad let’s hope this guy delivers.
