I think mason was a victim of the formation change. He’s a better defender than McCallum but McCallum was a better player going forward and more athletic
He is absolutely not a better defender than Sam M I have just sat through the Pompey 3-3 full match film on YouTube and Mason was continually physically bullied. He is nifty on the ball but off it he will be dumped in the Championship.

That's interesting. The group I go with did match ratings this season 5 for MOTM, 3 for 2nd best player 1 for 3rd. We were in the ground so different perspective perhaps but 4 of the 5 of us had Mason as our MOTM for that game.

I honestly think Mason was the better player in the 4 man defence. Noting McCallums defending - watch him against Shrewsbury the second goal - McCallum has gone completely awol.

overall I think McCallum is a better player, but defensively McCallum has a lot to learn.

I also don’t disagree that we need a new left back btw. I genuinely just think if we stuck to 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 Mason would have been the left back

Mccallum had been fouled up field. He was better than Mason in all respects.

McCallum was next to O'Hare near the corner flag, so would have done very well even in the first minute to get back to defend the back post let alone the last min. One of the benefits of a back 3 is less reliance on the rampaging fullback to get back.

I think we have to look at how the football community sees it
Mason is obviously a good player and he had a decent reputation coming through
But he was eventually released at Watford after they decided he wasn't ready for their level so luckily we picked up a good player on a free
McCullum came through from a non league team playing very low in the pyramid and quickly became a hot property
The club didn't want to sell him but ended up getting an offer we couldn't refuse
Time will tell if Sam kicks on and realises his potential

This Hamer story is feeling more and more like a hoax. I don't buy that he's somewhere in the UK, locked in a room for 14 days waiting to sign for us.
He probably isn't but someone at the club has realised if they announce it before the end of the quarantine period it will be obvious so better to keep quiet for a couple of weeks.

if I recall it was O’Hare who was fouled and there were enough passages of play from that moment for McCallum to get back.

I’m not saying that McCallum isn’t an all round better player, I’m saying that in a 4 man defence - Mason is a better defender.

McCallums athleticism and attacking strengths are why he suited the 5 man defence better

The Dutch article says 1.5 million Euros with more to come in potential bonuses.

Yeah but that doesn’t mean up front. Don’t most transfers get paid over instalments?

Anyway it’s a silly question, all money comes from Sisu, it’s just a question of how long the loan is.

Edit: do you have a link to that article? Got the missus to translate a couple I found, one just said rumoured fee of €1.5m and the other that City has offered €1.5m

What is the point in signing him now and paying his wages from when he signs

Drag it out until at least July 1st !

That’s probably what’s happening, transfer window isn’t open until July1st and he is still a contracted player.

Don't they just usually say that a player has agreed a deal and will join the club once the transfer window reopens?

I can't imagine he'll be in quarantine, you would think the club would pay to have him tested to get him free so he is able to complete a medical.

Are the club allowed to sign him then place him onto furlough?

We was at the pompy game, and Mason that last 20 mins with our backs agsinst wall was incredible was definately motm, one the many memories stand out memories of the season. Incredible what you can't see on the telly!

I agree this Hamer situation doesn't ring true. If we had signed him I'm sure they would just announce that from 1st July he's our player. There have been other transfers announced all over Europe. We might be interested, but this 14 day quarantine from a fan page sounds dodgy.

I’ve been thinking how would i feel if we signed

hamer
Ohare
Walsh
And a loan striker and kept everyone else

I do believe

marosi
Dabo
Rose
Hyam
Baka
Mason
Jobello
Max
Westbrooke
Shipley

have all got improvement in their game

Id snap your hand off. Maybe a loanee LWB too though. And I’d add Pask to the list of improvees.

Cant see us getting Walsh and O’Hare though.

Mason was our best player for the first couple of months of the season came out the team for McCallum, can’t remember why I’m assuming injury and McCallum dovetailed in, hardly put a foot wrong to be fair, must have been frustrating as hell for Mason but that’s football.

Mason was dropped after being bullied at Rotherham
