You need to be concentrating on people being tested positive and admissions to intensive care for a better reflection of how the lockdown is getting on.

Yeah I know. New cases have also risen to a four-day high which suggests whatever they are doing isn't working or they are not at their peak.

In Italy we went into lockdown a week or so before Spain and only now are things consistently looking better.

This is what doesn't seem to be sinking in- deaths are a measure of what happened to people who already caught the virus previously, its retrospective and useful for looking at survival rates but not so much for assessing lockdown effectiveness, to get that you need to know how many new people are catching the virus and how many new cases are ending up in ICU

Yep as not all deaths reported will have happened on that say and the virus can kill someone in 48 hours or 3 weeks you can't be certain when that person caught the virus.

Don’t know why the media are attempting to mislead everyone. The Wuhan lockdown has lifted, yes, but pretty much insignificantly. The restrictions are still very heavy.

The uk is increasing the amount of tests so the positives cases are likely to rise as we are now not just testing sick people as the present at hospital.

The % of positive tests is a good indicator as well

True, although using Italy as an indicator is slightly dodgy as their first week in lockdown was a shit show. People still moving from region to region etc. I'm sure i read in their first week they charged tens of thousands of people for violating lockdown.

750 more deaths in Spain. Doesn't look great considering how long they've been in lockdown.

Hopefully just an anomaly as the figures were starting to come down.

Spain seem the one country attempting to constantly predict deaths across the country and not just hospitals. The actual stat of deaths is not really relevant

Fair, bizarre if true as surely that's incredibly inaccurate. The rise in cases is slightly alarming though - I'd hope they don't attempt at predicting those too.

Haven't read about 200 pages in here but are there still people trying to argue we handled it way better than the likes of Italy, that graph being nonsense, and David O'Day claiming its rubbish to suggest it could derail our season?

40K in the first week, yeah after a week you couldn’t travel to move to a domicile from a residence. Since then though it’s been far stricter than the UK.

I suspect the issue is that they only locked parts of the country. Someone I know who lives in Costa Blanca recons that when they locked Barcelona region loads just left and went to holiday homes in Costa Blanca spreading it. Areas like Costa Blanca May have stayed relatively free had they locked the whole country in one rather than doing it regionally.

I would think the lockdown has been brutal and has led to thousands of deaths we will never know about

Was it in Costa Blanca that they were threatening fines of up to 600,000 euros or something ludicrous? Probably was in response to deter people from doing exactly that.

That's what happened to Italy and why they were concerned that the South was going to be the country's next hotspot as thousands fled from North once the lockdown was announced.

That’s odd. One guy who posts in here who lives in Spain said the lockdown even applied to where he lived - grand Canaria where there are hardly any cases?
