I'm sure it was Leeds away in 2010/11 that he was spotted in the concourse amongst us away fans, as soon as everyone clocked it was him everyone there was cheering him and singing his name. He just smiled and acknowledged the chants and kept his head down on his way back to his seat, seemed like a modest and gentle chap. Someone will correct me if I've got the wrong game but wherever it was, it was around that time.

I can't believe it. I'm just so so sad this morning, he was my first real Cov hero and remember seeing him play in my first ever game. What a player.

Had a lot of City players I have really liked over the years, but for me, my all time favourites have been:

Dion Dublin
Steve Hunt
Fergie and Wallace
Stuart Pearce
And
Cyrille Regis

He's in some esteemed company and I was just in total awe of the bloke.

His best days were at West Brom, but boy was he a really talented player and totally unstoppable and unplayable on his day.

Always remember him scoring 5 in one match, when we beat Chester City 7-2 in the League Cup.

An absolute legend and if it was down to me I would name a stand or part of the ground after him.

Absolutely Gutted. A real hero of mine growing up watching the team through my early teens.

Have read his book, and he signed for us when he probably wasn't having his best time on and off the pitch, and yet when we needed him he scored those two vital goals against Everton in the 4-1 win to keep us up. I was so pleased for him.

Then George and John came, they played to his strengths of which he had many, and the rest is history. He wasn't just a target man, he had it all, vision, a great touch and a thunderbolt of a shot amongst his many skills.

A giant and a true gentleman on and off the pitch. 59 is far too young, enjoy life everyone, it is precious.

That's the saddest news and I can hardly believe it. He was a fantastic player and a true legend. One of our Cup winning Legends and I will always have fabulous memories of him playing. I will be raising a glass in his honour tonight, 59 is far too young. My thoughts are with his family.

One of my boyhood hero's I remember one of my first Manchester City games was against West Brom when we where both in the top five in the late 70s I seem to recall they beat us that day but it was a cracking game of football one of those games that you just have to take your hat off and say well played to the other side and you couldn't help but be in awe of him as an athlete and a football player, people throw the phrase "big centre forward" about thinking of someone large and clumsy but he was not only big(by the standards of the time)but he had an elegance about him. RIP Cyrille you will be sadly missed up and down the country by supporters from many clubs.

I'm in disbelief at this news. He always seemed the epitome of fitness and well being long after he retired. RIP big Ciz.

Absolutely gutted to hear of the big man's passing this morning. Listening to Talksport as the news broke with Alan Brazil mentioning there was some shocking news regarding Cyrille Regis. My heart sunk as soon as I heard his name and thought 'oh no!' just before it was confirmed that he had died. Thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and the football family who knew and watched him play.

He was an iconic hero of mine in my late teens and had the privilege of chatting with him a few years back. He was a baggie at heart but I reminded him of who he played for when he achieved his greatest success. He acknowledged it with a smile and said "that is true!". A humble man whose passing has really shocked but I will always be grateful to have watched him play for us. RIP Cyrille.

There was a meet the fans session and I went up to Cyrille and told him how much I admired him and rated him, but asked why we kept kicking the ball long to his head when he was so very good on the deck and he replied 'blame Oggy.'

Terrible news. The first player I remember playing for City when I first started watching football. So sad.

What a player. What an icon. What would we do for a proper centre forward like him in our side now. He had everything. Power pace channelled aggression could head shoot with either foot.hold the ball turn defenders inside out . They say you should never meet your hero's as you will be disappointed. Not with cyril , met him twice and you couldn't with to meet a more polite gentlemen. A true sky blue and football legend.

I also read the book a couple of years back, he's got an interesting back story and his account of the 87 run makes the hairs on the back your neck stand up. Sad day.

The wife, who hates football, just told me - being a bumpkin she was pretty upset herself. So sad, Cyrille was legend for us and seemed such a nice bloke off the field too. I know we've always struggled, but looking back at those clips and recalling some of it, we were a better team than we got credit for...and Cyrille leading the line was a big part of that.

A real shock at 59 too, such a shame. Condolences to his family.

So sad, the biggest compliment to Cyrille is he was respected and dare I say liked by football fans from all teams. My favourite memory of him was his opening goal in the quarter final v Sheffield Wednesday i knew then we’d do it. Would be fitting for some of our lapsed fans to make their way to this weeks home game v Swindon to his memory and say thanks!

I feared the worst when I saw this thread.
We loved you Cyrille.

I did meet Cyrille at Edgbaston test match in 1985. He wasn't that happy at the time at City and wanted a move.
I am so glad he didn't and stayed.
I was one of the many who went to final game at Arsenal in 1991 just to see him play one more time for Coventry City.
You will always be remembered for being one the very best Coventry players of all time and one of the very best in your generation.
