Ive lived in st helens for the past few years, was on a night out once just minding my business and i turned to my friend and said im sure thats Carl Baker who plays for Cov. I went over to say hello, Coventry had played a home game to brum on the day and it was an early kick off, think he got injured. Anyway i had a little chat to him, didnt wanna intrude for too long cause he was with his misses, then i asked him for a pic.

Also met Oggy in the petrol station on the London Road. It was out of season, he was in cricket whites while buying fags.

My dad got a ride in Michael Doyles car on a night out

Me an my mate saw Kevin Thornton walking near woodlands school, asked him when he would be coming back of injury an he said a few weeks. Don't think we saw him play for another 6 months.

My mate used to scaffold with a lad who is good mates with Thornton and used to act as his driver when he was banned and playing for Northampton. My mate went out with him and travelled with him to the games a few times and says contrary to popular belief he is actully a sound lad.

I think that was his problem mate, sound lad who liked socialising a bit too much for a professional

Sneaked into Highfield Road with a mate in the summer of 1962. Aged 11. Kicking a ball around in the West End goalmouth when this sharp suited figure leaped over the wall coming from the Thackhall Street side. It was Jimmy Hill. We thought we were in big trouble. He was brilliant and played penalties with us for a few minutes & then took us into the club and organised crisps & programmes for us. Top man. A legend
Talked to George Hudson outside Stoke Library in about 1964. He had a pile of books under his arm. 'The Hud' walked on water.
Served Jeff Blockley a pint in a now gone pub in Whitley in 1970.
Mickey Adams has been in my house. And I gave him a coat. He and Nicky Platenauer were collecting jumble for a local football team fund raising thing.
Freddy at the tip. Nice one!

Callum Davenport threatened a mate on a night out with "do you know who I am? I can have you done mate"

Peter Ndlovu mooned two of my girl mates (14 at the time) whilst out jogging.

Another girl mate got off with Marcus Hall on a night out (don't think this is unusual)

I never meet famous people (apart from Dappy once at Heathrow)

Watched Freddie Eastwood chase a pony up the A5 near Hinckley.
Also stayed at same Hotel as the Coventry team near Preston for a night game, Brian Roberts gave me a free ticket.

Not arguing that pal, just my mate said he's a sound lad and not the spawn of Satan as some of our fans make him out to be.

Oh and also forgot my other mate broke Barry Quinn's jaw outside the Skydome. All over a bird.

Bumped in to Pavel Nedved coming out of the loo in a bar in prague, a couple of nights after czech republic had been knocked out of Euro 2008.
Wanted to shake his hand, but didnt seem the right location, so just said hi and smiled like a tw@t

When I worked for BBC CWR, I was asked to interview Gordon Strachan. I took the radio car out to Ryton and waited while the players finished training. When they'd finished, they trooped off inside but Strachan, Ron Atkinson and Maurice Setters stayed, talking in in middle of the pitch. I had a 12 noon slot, and as it was now about 10 past 12, I strolled onto the pitch with my recording gear and got about 20 yards in when Atkinson bellowed at me "What the **** are you doing on this pitch! GET OFF!" I just stared at him and then said, "CWR mate. I've got an interview booked with Mr Strachan." His face was as red as a beetroot with anger as he approached me (he was a bleeding big git!). "Get the **** off my pitch!" I told him to keep his hair on (or words to that effect - true!) and had to wait by the changing rooms. Atkinson kept me waiting a further 30 - 40 minutes before allowing Strachan out for the interview. I've hated Atkinson ever since! Twat!

I also met big "Razor" Ruddock, at Anfield, when I did the Tour of Anfield many years ago. He was a top bloke! Had my photo taken with him as well. He took the time to have a good chat.

Met George Hudson about 6 years back at a Sporting Dinner at the Ricoh, whilst both outside smoking, sound bloke, doesn't like Jimmy Hill much!

Met Michael Foot in the toliets during half-time of a Plymouth game at Highfield Road when I was in the posh seats.

Lovely bloke, think he was life Chairman or something.

Was the game when Adebola came on second half to a chorus of boos after returning from loan somewhere(Burnley), and totally destroyed them, he never looked back from that game for City.

Years ago I worked in a distribution centre. Agency pickers/ packers came on site. 5 of them stood around and I started allocating tasks. I did a double check on on of the guys and said he looked familiar. The others kept a straight face. A few minutes passed. Dave Bennett was picking products off locations.

When my manager found out he was here he was moved to an easier job that required no walking.

My little sister works with bennet now

The two that standout for me are the day I met Noel Whelan at the Peeping Tom, plastered at the bar.

Secondly and my favourite playing Football with Darren Huckerby, Marcus Hall, Paul Telfer and Dion Dublin when Marcus Hall came to pick his daughter up from school :)

A few years back we bumped into Oggy whilst on holiday in Florida (Busch Gardens I think). Said hello to him and said we were big CCFC fans and he just stared at us and then walked away.

Then we went to the CCFC Farewell Banquet in 2005 when we left Highfield Road and spoke to lots of different players in the course of the evening and they were all really friendly and happy to chat, with the exception of Oggy who basically told us to f*** off and leave him alone.

I've written about this before but here goes : Used to clean Ernie Machin's windows, had a drink with Bill Glazier in the Casino,as a kid knocked on George Hudson's door when he lived in Norton Hill and got his autograph, and when the City used to train at Shilton me and my mates were given a ball by Jimmy Hill.Great moments never to be forgotten !

I bumped into Oggy coming out of a bank in Quinton Parade, Cheylesmore. I just politely said "Hello Oggy!" He totally ignored me as well. He doesn't have time for the fans, apparently!

I took my young cousin to meet the players at the pop and crisps day at Highfield Road, I think it was New Years Day 1991 (could have been Boxing Day). All the players were chatty and polite, bar Ogrizovic who was plain ignorant. While queuing I managed to meet and shake hands with the great Bobby Moore, so Grizzo, as much of a City legend as you are, you couldn't lace Mooro's boots on or off the pitch.

I meet a lot of the players through being an estate agent. Nicest ones have been Stephen Wright and Carl Baker. I could tell you about a few twats that I've dealt with (including Villa blues and west brom players) but its not worth my job!

Talking about players who have a darker side when us kids ran on the pitch when we beat Wolves when we had the biggest ever gate of 50,000,Derek Dougan raked his boots down the legs of a young kid,bad loser or what !Can you imagine that happening today he'd be in deep shit.

You'd think the pre premiership era players would be more down to earth as they were normally payed a sensible wage etc, unlike todays 250k per week.

maybe it's not just money that changes players as many like to make out

Bringbackrattles, did you ever see Willy Humphries at Norton Hill? He was my favourite player as a kid. Heard he lived there too in one of the club houses.

Spionkop us kids would walk or cycle to Norton Hill and stand outside the houses where we heard players were living.
Sorry but can't recall seeing Willy he was a favourite of mine too,but the Hud was my hero and when I saw him looking out at us I went for it ! I remember him being friendly and it has stuck with me to this day.
