Match #23 v Bristol City, which I think is when we came back from behind twice with 10 men to win 3-2.
great thread, btw. What a fun thread to start! I wanted to do a poll, but the limit is 10 options and there is so many more games to vote for then that! Nominations below! I included any game that could be considered. Even losses/draws if the performance or atmosphere was warranted. Explain your top 5 and revel in how lucky we have been for the past 9 years! I love this club!
Preston?Match 34 : best coventry match ive attended in the last decade
Just mental scenes
On the day of the Wolves FA Cup game I had to do a Speed Awareness Course, which tempered my enthusiasm slightly. It literally finished bang on KO time!
I’ll never tire of watching the highlights. It seems to be all of my favourite games are 3-2 wins. Great commentary too.
And most of that team are still playing for us.
Yeah I remember going to that one. Train from Cov station at 5.30 on the morning and getting the last train back to Cov from New St at about 11 o’clock. Long old day but as you say our form was on the up from then onwardswe were in the bottom 5 of L2 at Christmas - we won away there and never looked back - i always feel this was the return from the bottom - the start of it
Agreed. I said this before but it was like a Coventry version of getting drunk for the first timeThe night I realised good things can happen to us
Thanks bud! Worthy of a championship trophy!great thread, btw.
worthy of a trophy!![]()
WolvesPreston?
Rotherham away won’t be considered because it was during COVID, so no atmosphere, but geez that was a big match. Ostigard I think would get in our team now as a CB.By season:
2017/18: Mansfield away. This felt like a huge turning point in the season where we hung in there with 10 men.
2018/19: Sunderland away
2019/20: Portsmouth away
2020/21: Rotherham away
2021/22: Bristol City home
2022/23: Boro away (draw). The first game in a long time supporting CCFC where we were in truly uncharted territory for a good reason.
2023/24: Lesta home
2024/25: Boro home
2025/26: Swansea away. The game where it hit me, and apparently Lampard too, that it was as good as job done. Top atmosphere from start to finish as well.
During COVID or not it was a huge game and a really tense watch. Ostigard leapt like a salmon for that header and the result went a big way to helping us pull clear.Rotherham away won’t be considered because it was during COVID, so no atmosphere, but geez that was a big match. I will say again as i have done before , ive never been as nervous about a match as that game , all week at work felt horribleRotherham away won’t be considered because it was during COVID, so no atmosphere, but geez that was a big match. Ostigard I think would get in our team now as a CB.
Can remember him “Shushhing” the away bench tooDuring COVID or not it was a huge game and a really tense watch. Ostigard leapt like a salmon for that header and the result went a big way to helping us pull clear.
I was similar. So satisfying to come out on top in a crunch match away from home (even without a crowd).I will say again as i have done before , ive never been as nervous about a match as that game , all week at work felt horrible
Great memory. Forgot about thatCan remember him “Shushhing” the away bench too![]()
Ostigard is one of my favourite players of recent years. Still only 26 and a regular for Genoa in Serie A and chipping in with 5 goals from 24 appearances this season.Rotherham away won’t be considered because it was during COVID, so no atmosphere, but geez that was a big match. I’m guessing Hamer was our player of the season when he played for us, but he would have been a close second.Ostigard is one of my favourite players of recent years. Still only 26 and a regular for Genoa in Serie A and chipping in with 5 goals from 24 appearances this season.
Defo not sad. Makes you a legend! So weird you mentioned Blackburn with Wilson’s goal. Was thinking last night that was an oversight, so defo should be included. Swansea is on the shortlist (52 I think). An incredible game for atmosphere, Grimes goal and a general consensus that was when we all thought we were sure to be promoted (including Lampard!)A few observations:
1) is it a little bit sad that I was at almost every game on your list?
2) Can you change match 36 to read 4-3 please
3) I think you should have included the Blackburn away equalizer from Wilson - mental away and we don't make the play-offs without it.
4) Also I'd include Swansea away this season in the long list, with the SBA in the best voice I've heard us in years for 90 minutes solid and capped off by a Matt Grimes goal.
5) Ok - my top 5 from the list:
Notts Co & Boro (both away in the play-offs) won't be surpassed, but I think the rest of my top 5 made up of Wolves in the cup, getting the ground back and performance v QPR and then Boro at home this season, probably our most complete performance and such a statement result to get us where we are now.
Just an insane game! Who could forget Chaplin ssshing the crowd tooNo. 13 for me as it was my first trip to the Stadium of Light and a great weekend away with my son as well as a great game and fantastic result and atmosphere.
That and Mansfield away were my first experience of a Cov side not just folding. Not my favourite game, but match 14 was when I thought that there might be something a bit different about the team - coming back to get a draw with 9 men.
2017 Morecambe 2 City 0
The memory will keep me grounded as we push for Europe next season.....
Ah sorry, missed the Swansea one, cheers. Must have read the list about three times too!Defo not sad. Makes you a legend! So weird you mentioned Blackburn with Wilson’s goal. Not sure about that but I do remember us playing against 9 men at Highfield Road versus Forest. It was 0-0 and we just couldn't break them down. Awful it was, night game if I remember but not sure who the manager was at the time, possibly Strachan.Maybe the first sign that season that we were going to be somewhere in the autos! Would love to know that last before City performed like that with 9 men!

It was! Matt Godden winner in the final minute! Atmosphere was fantastic!
