A couple of players have really underperformed this season as weve covered, Rushworth, Milan and EMC the main culprits

But who do we think has taken the step up well and can maintain a stay in the premier league from our squad last season.

For me, Bobby Thomas, Jack Rudoni and Jay Dasilva have been nothing short of sublime. Honourable mention for BTA

Think you’ve covered it tbh. Cherif last couple looking alright of the new signings, Pinnock too last few has been good. Slim pickings though. Midfield especially needs to step up. Onyeka was decent last night I thought. Yirenkyi will do one good thing and two stupid things right now.

I'd echo your thoughts and maybe, if I was feeling generous, throw in an honourable mention for Simms who was unlucky not to score against Man City, took his chance well against Newcastle and seemed unlucky not to come on last night

I love JDS and it's very fair to say that he's coped with the step up very admirably but I'm getting a bit edgy at how often he gets bamboozled by a through ball behind him

To be honest with JDS it’s since he’s come back from the international break he’s had two average games whereas before he was much better. Seems to have lost some confidence in taking his man on which dribbling is his best attribute I feel. He was being too safe last night.

In terms of his defensive work at this level as a newly promoted club teams are gonna get in behind you. What matters is your organisation and recovery when that happens. Generally I think we’ve been good at stopping passing lanes and the two centre backs Thomas and pinnock have formed a decent partnership and deal well with crosses. We are not getting beat by crosses and through balls we are getting beat cos the midfield aren’t making good decisions of when to close down on the edge of the box.

Dribbling is jds best attribute? Really?. Oof.
At his best he's a tidy passing player who makes himself available.

We had a squad of very good Championship players. All of them are having to play at a level above their ability.

Only Rudoni and Thomas (at the moment covering for his occasional gaffes) look lower mid-table Prem level. The rest still look like Championship players.

Hamer and Tchaouna below expectations for different reasons

Exactly as you said

I would add Jay Da Silva and Pinnock to the list too

If you gauge it on who would actually attract interest in the premier league
Thomas yes
Rudoni possibly

Unless the club put a block on sales in the summer the lack of outgoings is telling. January window will be interesting.

That's a bit harsh. Rudoni and Thomas have made the step up so far.

I'm waiting until they're not against world class players to decide how they're doing. Hull, Forest and Newcastle are more our level we should be aiming at. Of course they will make mistakes. The game is much quicker now. The question for me is are they learning from their mistakes.

Against Arsenal we were like rabbits in headlights. Rushworth still is. He needs to get his confidence back quickly.

That’s a good bar to judge the players.

Agree on those 2

Hopefully by the end of the season Cherif, Yirenkyi and others will have improved and added themselves to that list.

I agree with the list. I think there have been more players stepping up than not overall. Our main issue is the ones at that haven’t so far are key positions

GK, RB, CM, LW/RW (to an extent, I love BTA and his work rate, just needs to find some composure on the ball)

He has to sort this issue out with Tchaouna and Gboho. Would like to see Torp given a run over Grimes but I just don’t think that happens. Rushworth just needs to make a worldy save or have a game like Leicester away last season and he will be fine. KKH worth a go at RB.

Just wish BTA stops thinking he is Messie! He works his bollox off and wins the ball and then tries to take on the whole defence. If he would just pass so we can retain tye advantage he won he would be getting 8s and 9s from me

I hope they do too, but playing under the cosh with only 30% possession each week it will be hard for them to develop.

A fair summation. I really thought Hamer would’ve forced his way in by now. At the start of the season he was my outside shout to be one of our most important players. Doesn’t look likely right now.

Rudoni has been really sharp and Thomas has grown even more so in physicality, wins every duel at the moment.

JDS when we’re in possession is really important to us being brave in keeping the ball, he just can’t handle some of the pace from wingers coming the other way.

Not seeing anything special in Yirenkyi at the moment. Considering I thought his main attribute was legs and all-action, he always seems a yard off it.

BTA can hold his head high. Just sometimes doesn’t release quickly enough in possession but he affects the team so positively and is more than just a workhorse.

We all know Rushworth is better than he’s showing. The price tag and Arsenal first game in front of all those eyes must’ve been terrifying, he fumbled a few that night and he’s never really settled since. He will though. Too good not to.

Feels like we are currently only praising players for effort and working hard.

Some truth in that. We do lack quality especially central midfield and upfront.
And a keeper and right back 😉

Feel like we've potentially got some quality in forward areas, but we need to settle now and find a good balance between hard working players and players who have quality on the ball.

Agree with this - if we stay up BTA probably won’t be here next season but he’s effective at what he’s being asked to do this season.
He didn't deserve the criticism he received from some for last night's performance.

Grimes and Rushworth have been my two biggest disappointments so far. I thought they would be immense again, but so far they are pretty meh. Rudoni, Thomas and Pinnock all doing well IMO

I think the fact is that quality PL level strikers cost a lot of money. We've got a potential in Cherif, workhorses in Awonyi and BTA and the jury still out on Simms. I still believe Wright is the one who could hit numbers this season, but he's a good way from being available. It will be tough and it's not through lack of effort, just lack of quality and we're not really in the position to go out and get it, so everyone has to perform at 100% effort every time and see where we can nick bits.

The Yirenkyi booking currently sums up his rawness.

Did the hard bit winning the ball back & messed up the easy bit with the pass.

Pinnock just looks comfortable & is probably getting another 10% out of Thomas as a result.

BTA has to look at the ball unfortunately. Head always down. He's not premier league level

I'd like to see Torp get some more minutes at the moment. Not sure what Yirenkyi offers over to him other than covering a lot of ground and committing silly fouls.

Grimes position is the most affected by the step up in League

From being able to run the game as a QB for a team better than 90% of the other opponents and having +60% possession, to having to play without the ball for a team who are worse than 80% of the oppo is a huge change, bigger than any other position.

His positioning, decision making and ball control much better than our other options in that position, athleticism is a key problem.
