The primary reason that Lampard will go will not be the results, it will be the performances.

The results are clearly very poor - we're bottom of the league with no goals scored - but it's the performances that are the worry. The team cannot defend (we have given away 1:1 chances in almost every game, including the two home friendlies, the set piece defending last night was a joke); we start each game on the backfoot; we are losing the midfield battle every week; we simply cannot take open play chances because we give PL quality goalkeepers the chance to save them; heads drop in the second half; we're playing good players out of position.

Does anyone really expect anything other than a torrid afternoon on Saturday, beamed live around the world?

Doug King won't put up with this for long. If we were playing well but losing then FL would be OK, for a while at least. DK will know the odds - we basically now need 40 points from 34 games - 12 wins and 4 draws (so we can only lose about half our remaining games). That is incredibly tough - in PPG terms, that is the equivalent of finishing 15th last season. Leave it another six matches and it becomes 40 from 28 matches - 1.43 points per games. Last season, that would have us finishing 7th. So, at that point we are simply rebuilding for a post-relegation world.

Unless things change on Saturday, King has a big call to make. This is quickly going from survival to what happens next season in the Championship. Is he ready for that?

And yes, it is very early to start talking like this, but the PL is ruthless and relentless.
 
I’ll be honest, I’m not really buying the “we’ve played the top teams” argument.
Yes, the opposition has been strong, and that obviously has to be taken into account. But the vast majority of the goals we’ve conceded have come from poor defending, individual mistakes or completely avoidable situations. If we keep making basic errors against anyone at this level , it’s going to cost us regardless of who we’re playing. No we haven't scored yet but if the defending doesn't massively improve we will concede far too many anyway.
 
I actually feel like the transfer policy in the summer was based on an assumption of relegation and planning for next season. Some speculative purchases that might make us big money next year and improve the clubs financial position going forward. Problem is that in the time it takes them to settle and in some cases get fit it may be too late. Oh sorry what's the solution? Not sure there is one other than play a settled team and pray
 
What manager comes in and makes performances any better? The squad is well above its ceiling and getting smacked every week.

My thinking along the same lines.

We absolutely need to play most of the new players who were brought in for their physicality. We need more running, higher intensity and a coherent press or alternative to winning the ball back.

Secondly, need to do the basics and grind our way into games. We either play it backwards, completely panic, or try something too elaborate. There were some nice ideas last night but shouldn’t be trying fancy flicks etc when we can play simple balls to each other.

There is no way he is happy in having to play lati and bring on bidwell against prem opposition. He isnt going to stick around and have his reputation trashed again. Consensus is we havent backed him and he can walk away without much damage. Stick around and risk breaking derby's record - no chance is he doing that.

Are you saying that Lampard had no choice in recruitment and it was all down to King and Austin? Please elaborate.
 
Looking at the numbers in the will to win thread we have to significantly improve our running and tackling stats.
No excuse not to.
 
The solution has always been gradual improvement by investing mid term (rather than short-term). The odds of staying up as a newly promoted championship side are heavily against for a reason. We can slate the season, but the money from it will allow us to build for another go. Surprises aside (by a massively over-performing season), this was always the most likely scenario. Personally, I don't get too upset about this season, it was never likely going to be anything other then relegation, parachute payments, go again with better calibre recruits (hopefully) and be in a better position for the next PL campaign.

No my personal opinion is Lampard was fully involved in recruitment. IF (as the post I was was replying to suggested) he wasn’t, then he must resign. As a manager can’t be expected to get results from a team he had no say in.
 
all i ask is that the players fight for everything! if we do that i can live with losses! but i cant stand the attitude "hes dropped me so he can fuck off!
 
They need to watch a video of last night and Sunday and see how Ayari and Barkley ran the midfield, So far teams are walking through us with ease and too many unforced errors leaving players one on one with the keeper and they don’t miss in the premier league and shocking set piece defending. Lessons should have been learned by now but sadly they will get the coach the sack if it doesn’t turn around soon.
This is where Lampard's reputation will sink or swim. The players are timid, lacking conviction and confidence and now is the time to show they are good enough to dig us out of the small hole we are in before it becomes too big to climb out of.
 
We have stink the place out (in a different way to how we currently are).

For me there are a few elements

Select players who are fit, strong and will fight - basics but we have to run and tackle more Mfuni, Yirenkyi, Cherif - all showed that last night.

Wide players tuck in . I’m playing 5-4-1 - and my left and right mid have got to tuck in when we don’t have the ball, we can’t be as open as we are through the middle.

Drop 10 yards deeper. For me our defence is too high. It was spot on against City, whereas last night was ridiculous

Get to HT at 0-0 - don’t look beyond that. It will give us confidence and put us in a position to win point. When we concede early crowd and players will throw in the towel.

We basically have to work harder, be aggressive, and be conservative.

Said it a few times now: 3421 as your starting shape, the two behind the striker sit narrow as a default, if play is coming down either side then one pulls out to help the attack and one stays central as a second striker. Wing back on the opposite side stays deeper. Off the ball you clog the central space and push opposition out wide, then do the same type of thing (one AM out wide, one remaining central) to try and strangle their attack. Gives you sufficient numerical cover in the vital areas both defensively and offensively.
