Wasps "fans" (1 Viewer)

I still can't believe there are Coventry fans, born and bred in the city, who jumped on the bandwagon to support a club who are a franchise from London.

I can, CRFC havent been near the top tier in donkeys years and suddenly one of the more successful sides in the coubtry turns up with european rugby every season. It would be like Spurs/Arsenal rocking up in Telford.

I do wonder if CRFC attendances have been hit, difficult to tell maybe as they have recently been improving and moving up the pyramid. I suspect most who follow Wasps wouldnt have bothered with a lower league side already in their city though. Alot of them are probably plastic fans who'd soon stop going if Wasps dropped out of the Premirship somehow.

To be fair, at least they are going to CCFC games and not just giving it loads about Boycotting since Northampton like some of them you see that want us to die.

Don't really get why they would want to but don't think it's an offence to start throwing pitch forks at them.

I wouldn't be all worked up if somebody was wearing a different shirt in the home end as long as they weren't complete twats with it. Remember not long ago there were a couple of Preston (I think) fans in our end watching the game and chatting to our fans like it was nothing, no anger or anything.

It's a purely unique situation though.

Wasps (in theory) are trying to push CCFC out of the Ricoh/existence. How can anyone support Wasps, while supporting CCFC?

A couple of Preston fans in our end won't effect where CCFC plays their home games. Supporting Wasps will have an effect.

There will be all sorts of different people though. There are the sort who seem to want the club to die and mainly seem to be new fans.

Can't really start giving people shit if they choose to go and just want to watch a game of rugby, they are obviously still going to ccfc games. Shouldn't really be starting with the scab or abuse stuff.

It's the really angry ones who seem to think they are better than everybody else because they now support wasps or the ones who act like massive hypocrites who should have that rammed down their throats.

Not shouting at a random bloke or slating him because he likes both, I don't personally agree because if I was into rugby I'd watch cov but it's not really a case of a witch hunt against them personally just based on that.

Of course, but surely it must cross their mind giving money to Wasps/supporting them is strengthening their position at the Ricoh/in Coventry at the expense of CCFC?

It's not about liking both football and Rugby, it's more supporting one club that is possibly killing off the other.

(Assuming of course, the Ricoh is the number one choice for CCFC now as opposed to a new stadium being built)

I can see your point but there are people who really don't look that deep into it like people would on here or social media.

That's where the pr stuff has come in, I used to talk to an old boy at the gym who would just tell me everything they and the telegraph said when they moved as if it was fact all the time. He wasn't being a dick, he genuinely believed it all.

This isn't me saying everybody should line up for a season ticket for them by any stretch of the imagination. It's just you can't really have a go at them, they will more then likely get on with their day and go and watch both.

It's not for me, I'd watch the actual rugby team. No point singling them out, discussing maybe. They are still going to our games, it is the ones who boycott and tell everybody else every 5 minutes while defending wasps.

Like you say, at the end of the day people will do what they want regardless.

It's just looking more likely that Wasps are strengthening their position in the City, while CCFC's is forever weakening. I was hoping Wasp's venture would fail and they return to London, and CCFC could benefit from it in some way (This is without knowing Wasps accounts).

Very bleak times ahead unless something changes drastically :(

Yesterday, I saw in total around 5 or 6 Wasps merchandise/jackets being worn by people on the way to the Ricoh or inside.

I just don't understand people wearing Wasps clothing to Coventry City games?

I assume as its a different sport, it can't be stopped by the stewards? You couldn't wear an opposing football teams top in the home end?

They must be Londoners up for the day. :angelic:

I don’t know of anyone/know anyone who knows somebody who’s walked away from CRFC for wasps I know a few who do both, wasps have probably taken the casual support, 19th Jan Cov at home the day after wasps play Leinster (European champs/ majority of number 1 international side in the worlds squad) for the same price.....casual supporters will choose the Ricoh over the BPA.

Ave Attendances up over 2k at BPA about double what they were 3/4 years ago when Cov were plodding along in the 3rd tier, now in the 2nd I don’t think they’ve risen as much as hoped.

I couldn't care less if they watch Wasps if they like rugby why not but I am glad they saw fit to put money into my club to help keep it going . I think it would be nice if many more turned up spent money on our club . There are plenty of people who watch both sports but don't want to or cannot afford to buy 2 coats . I think that bad feelings if there is any should be at a management level . Mind you I am the wrong side of seventy so I see things differently to the younger ones on here.

The question to some on here, who do you hate more Leicester or Wasps?

I was thinking that when I wrote the OP. I was thinking would I rather see a Leicester shirt in the home end or Wasps. At least Leicester are a legitimate sporting club, not a franchise from London.

Yeah I couldn't imagine people actually 'converting', it would be more those people only wanting to watch top level rugby. It could be very interesting should Cov ever make it to the Premiership, it would take quite a lot of further investment to put them in the hunt for that though I'd think.

Question: is it because they’re a sports team? I mean if Genting had bought the Ricoh and turned it into a giant casino would we get them the same way?

Our pest friends are even extending their wings over into SW Leics I notice from our local rag. Workshops for kids with issues etc I've seen Wasps jackets in Hinckley and this is firmly Leicester Tigers territory really........ although on saying that I know about a dozen or so who regularly follow CRFC from here

Sorry, it may be the hangover but I don’t get you? You mean of Cov rugby bought the Ricoh or if Cov Rugby wasn’t a thing?

As you know I’m not too bothered by Wasps other than their status as our landlord. I just find the vitriol over the top and was curious if it’s a sport thing or a Ricoh thing.

No, I think the reception if Cov Rugby bought the Ricoh would be completely different than if it was Wasps.

The fact the council were banging on about morals, how clubs shouldn't be moved and where they belong to the press whilst negotiating a deal to move a club is a little bit hypocritical.

I think if the council bulldozed it and built houses it would be less hypocritical.

i think CCRF should ground share with WASPS at the Ricoh and CCFC buy the Butts Stadium?

Not too sure Cov Rugby would even want to, would they? Why would they want to sack of what they have to then be at the Mercy of Wasps?

OK. I don’t know enough about Wasps history or rugby to know if that’s a thing like it is in football. I’ve not seen protests but then I’ve not been looking. I suspect most are it as an issue for Wasps fans ‍♂️

Ok my shrugging arm guy has been replaced with the symbol for Male for some reason ‍♂️

If somebody has been out preaching to the press about how wrong it is for sports clubs to move then in the background doing a deal for another to move it's bullshit isn't it?

CRFC appear to be doing quite well without getting tp heavily involved with either sisu or wasps.
I think they've got too much sense and are quite happy to pursue they're own plans. Good luck to them. Still need to try and get to one of their games!
