Upcoming Changes At The Ricoh

Based on the number turning up to most protests, we might have raised £4,500 if we were lucky.
 
Given that one stand has the sponsor on the seating anyway I wouldn't object to a compromise with Wasps at one end and Sky Blues at the other.

Same with the seating, if they are planning on changing, but are committed to us staying, why not look for a compromise. Wasps away kit isn't too far off Sky Blue, would could go to yellow and black for our away kit on a permanent basis and then have different stands or blocks in the different colours.

Lets be fair, Wasps do own it now so we can't expect them not to change things but if they are serious about building a relationship with CCFC and keeping us around there needs to be some level of compromise on both sides.

And now Sisu have to spend £20m+ on their 365 24/7 all singing and dancing 12,000 seater which will get us back to the premiership !! Ha ha,
What's that in the sky, it's pink and oinking?

There is still the outstanding loan.....but apparently with good management, that can be paid from income. The naming rights are due for renewal which should bring in millions. It is a good deal - which SISU should have been after instead of unencumbered freehold and then court cases. Building a good relationship is worth a lot of money. I would have gladly put 550,00 in - if a sensible person had organised a bid.
 
well if Wasps do that then the cost of our new stadium comes down because there will be a glut of 2nd hand sky blue seating on the market...... bargain! ....... very nearly enough for two new stadiums....:whistle:

I could just about stomach WASPS being branded into one stand and maybe a couple of Wasps badges around as well as CCFC badges. If it gets changed to black, white and yellow as suggested in this thread or even partially I don't think I could go in there.

And what does their P.i.t.S. stadium have in terms of facilities ( training centre? Hot dog shop? )? Where will they find a site with such good road connections as the Ricoh and a station being built next door? Madness not getting the Ricoh...

Wasps are trying to build a longterm fanbase with free tickets, sisu in at a short term temporary northampton were not trying to do this, they were trying to prevent an embarrassing ghost town (with very limited success).

why is it that you are incapable of looking at a situation on it's own merits and come to a reasoned conclusion. This might sound harsh but this is at least the 3rd time I've seen you post a comment like this on this issue, each time you are responded to with a reasoned argument but then you do it again.

In fairness Noggin, it is just as reasonable to point out that it will be embarassing for Wasps (and CCC) to turn out in front of the kind of attendance they've traditionally had at Wycombe (6,000 - 7,000), at the Ricoh. The ghost town scenario, if you will.

It's not unreasonable to point out that giving away thousands of tickets might be as much about that as it is about marketing. Long term, giving this many tickets away has to impact how many paying customers you're going to draw in - so it's hard to think it's sustainable. Why as a casual supporter would I pay for anything that I can likely pick up for free?

And it does of course reinforce the point that rugby isn't a game that other than in a very few places gets anything like football levels of attendances.

Is that a reasoned enough argument for you? Just because people don't agree with you doesn't mean that they are unreasonable or wrong.

Sat chatting { drinking way too many beers for a school night} after our golf AGM last night. Me, a Villa fan and 3 Leicester fans. The chaps are all decent and not anti Cov types and they honestly cannot believe what has become of CCFC. It doesn't seem five minutes since we were a similar club to LCFC and a tad smaller than AVFC. The Leicester lads cannot believe their luck and the contrast in fortunes between us. Their mouths were agape when I tell them about the 100% Wasps ownership and the proposed ground changes etc.
You'd like to think this is the low point but I fear it will actually get worse before it gets better !

That is all reasonable and I agree with alot of it, I've already posted that it's in wasps interests marketing wise to give out free tickets, it's good publicity for them to get a big crowd, not to mention the people there will have a better time and be more likely to return. That doesn't contradict what I said though. peoples issues with sisus free tickets in northampton was because it was harmful to the boycott and not anything to do with people have any issues with ccfc giving out free tickets.

disagreeing with me doesn't make you unreasonable or wrong. posting snide, sarcastic misrepresentations of peoples arguments over and over again months after they made them makes you unreasonable and wrong and this is very common from Nick (and many others)

Me too, but in truth I think we'll see a decent turn out for the first game or two, supported by a substantial ticket giveaway, and then crowds will drop off as the novelty dies. I think it'll settle to not much more than they currently get at best, with the exception of Leicester, Northampton, and maybe Gloucester who will bring a fair few of their own - plus the odd euro game.

Fair play to Wasps for their marketing - because of the split beween ACL and CCFC I don't think it was ever really in either parties interest to really push the other in this way. Also, in truth I don't think the football club has ever been as well run as it seems Wasps are. The sad thing is now, that even with better owners than SISU the chance for the club to have worked this way has gone, at least at the Ricoh.

The test, tbh, will be what happens if the team doesn't win.

Clubs like Man City, norwich... (everyone bar us!) held up as much because they'd got a reasonably secure base. Wasps won't have that for a good decade at least... so from their POV they really need to be winning, and winning constantly.

Fair enough Noggin, I respect that. There's no doubt that my anger about this has made me even snappier than usual, so apologies where that's leaked out.

The frustrating for me, is that this should have been us. The one thing I'm sure we'd agree on is that with half-decent owners (even prior to SISU) we'd be in the same position as Wasps now. I wouldn't ever deny that. It's just surprising to me that it's the council that have finally closed the door on the possibility.

Regardless, I'm moving on. I'll maintain my one-man boycott against Wasps, others will differ. Fair enough, we're all still CCFC fans - we've suffered enough without beating each other up over this!
 
If their marketing is as astute as it clearly looks then the plan was really to crush CCFC and try to convert as many fans as possible. This isnt going to happen over night but i can see people going there eventually if they continually become a success and they keep the level of marketing up.

Personally as soon as those seats change, i will not go back in there. This is actually harder to take than being moved to Sixfields as at least when we were over in Northampton there was a chance of coming home, this is sadly final. We are officially homeless and someone else is changing the wallpaper.

Free tickets is hardly an imaginative or great marketing initiative

It can be risky.

There is an expectation it will happen again - getting off the drug can be difficult.
There is no guarantee at all it will encourage loyalty or returns.
If it becomes widespread and frequent it can cause consumer dissatisfaction to loyal customers who are paying.
There is the risk of brand devaluation.

What confuses me is that people keep saying this is a world class rugby club and an attractive brand in itself. Coupled with the notion that people in Coventry want premiership rugby this seems behaviour totally at odds with those statements. Imagine if Manchester United pitched up here? Would they need to do this.

The principal motivation of course is political - to ensure it is seen as a success on day one - even if it isn't.

I just want to see a winning team. And now they have said they will have meeters and greeters there to explain Rugby to me I have to think that is a perfect combination of encompassing a day of success and knowledge.

You misunderstand.... that was the price for Wasps. For anyone else it was far higher.

Exceptional circumstances though here. This is a proper franchise and they have to bring in as many punters as possible for the first few games. Making big profits won't matter for the rest of this season I imagine, priority will be to woo fans in and maybe entice them to buy Membership for the following year. I can't fault their marketing strategy so far and hope that Coventry rugby club can learn from this and be a bit more proactive themselves !

For SISU you mean, the same clowns that kept taking the very people they needed to stay onside with to court. I'm disgusted by Lucas and her ultimate revenge but Sepalla and Fisher brought this about !

Understand what your saying but the fact that you have to relocate your 6K core supporters 80 mile up the road and still attempt to fill a 32,000 stadium it really is a no brainer. It is going to take years (if ever) to maintain a steady attendance so they will just drop the school allocations slowly as regular attendances increase. No-one has a problem with kids going for free as they spend daddy's money on food which more than covers it.

Its not new but a winning formula nonetheless.

No. Before they'd gone anywhere near court the council pursued buying out the loan, which pretty much ended the purchase avenue. Indeed the council said the loan would assist the club in agreeing a rental term. They were not interested in selling the £113m complex to SISU.
 
We haven't quite done with them though have we, they are still around spouting utter tosh and trashing what's left of the club. It's the council we need to forget as they have applied their Coup de Grace and moved on, unless of course they'll continue to reap revenge with planning restrictions etc { Not that I believe the hedge fund liars have any real intentions of HR2 anyway }
