Pardoned Bannon for fleecing his own supporters!
Does that mean Bannons codefendants are now looked on as guilty even though the trial hasn't taken place yet?

The pardon system is all very bizarre. Lots of people pointing out he's not the only president to exploit it, but it's not overly democratic!

Seems only Carter pardoning Vietnam draft avoiders is the only one in recent history who's used it half appropriately.

Lot of drug dealers and fraudsters on the list. Maybe the rumours of 2 million per pardon carry more than a little truth

It will be so sad him leaving the White House. Can we still keep the thread going after today?

Trump in talks to set up new "Patriot" party. Smart move releasing this before Senate decides whether he's guilty or not 👏 Makes it easy for Senators to turn on him now

Are people overstating Trump's sway with the electorate, anyway? Biden comfortably won the presidency, but Democrats did worse than expected in Senate and Congress elections. Would a more moderate Republicanism have won them the presidency this time?

One thing's for sure, moderate Republicans may as well convict him, now, if he wants to shaft their party, anyway.

Not even sure it's about more moderate Republicanism. Local/State Republican parties still putting up election candidates that are to the right wing of Republican politics.
There was a significant anti-Trump vote. It' was his handling of the COVID crisis that has ultimately done for him. Pre-COVID his numbers were strong enough to win again. Economy was stronger and that is nearly always the key issue in US elections.
Republicans will want to act fast to remove Trump from the forefront before next year's Senate elections. Gloves are off now he's no longer "protected by Office" and the shots are going to come thick and fast from many areas.
Entirely plausible Trump supporters could switch allegiance to a candidate with a similar agenda who just expresses it in a more "considered" way.

Isn't that a worse case scenario for the Republicans? He could potentially take a decent chunk of their vote but it will have zero impact on Democat voters.

Is there genuine longevity in a 3rd party based on an individual? What is it actually going to be offering that is so different from current Republicanism?

How many would choose Trump over the Republican party if meant the Democrats holding on?

Could impact Democrat vote as there was a significant vote % that moved there because of Trump.

Obama also used it to release non violent drug offenders

Joe Manchin is a Republican anyway he may as well formally switch

no he's not

A lot of his politics is old skool union based democrat pro worker. He is socially conservative like most of the people he represents.

Until 2022 when the dems have a chance at flipping Republicans out of seats in WN and PA and attacking Fletc they need him on side.

He’s a conservative in basically every respect and takes corporate money quite happily. He argues against healthcare for his own constituents

Ok, this is the US version of saying everyone who didn't back Corbyn was a tory.

Manchin is democrat

Dude he voted with Trump over half of the time during his term. If he voted with the Republicans over half the time and supported the likes of Brett Kavanaugh he may as well switch sides. He’s just recently come out opposing extra relief cheques which people in his state need.

He’s the Liz Kendall of the Democrats

He called for my targeted relief over giving everyone no matter needs a cheque.

That is very different to "opposing extra relief cheques"

It won’t happen. The Republicans are moving on, and the MAGA crowd will find another candidate to rally behind. Trump has a long history of suggesting he’ll run under this party or that party’s banner, but it’s a long, long time between now and the primary season. He’s tired, isolated, and his pre-presidency business model has been completely scrambled. And without any currency in mainstream media, or even much oxygen on social media (always his two most valuable assets), he’s likely done politically. Time to slink off to to Russia/UAE/Eastern Europe and make some money putting his name on tower blocks instead.

He said they don’t need to give more cheques to those who already had them. Dude is an all round conservative

As I said his position is relief should be targeted those who need it which is very different to what you are saying

That argument is similar to those who try to oppose free tuition, and it just obstructs aid getting to people faster. If someone voted with the Tories over half the time you’d probably expect them to be a Tory MP, right? Manchin voting with Trump that often means that the D next to his name is largely irrelevant

I agree (I think I heard that CNN and Fox didn't even play his final speech, just reported on it). MSM can now cheerfully ignore him and his cult followers will slowly drift away. I don't think there's any chance of him standing again.
