If we were playing a game where we had more possession (like the championship) than it would make sense to play him, retain the ball and box teams in.

However we’re struggling to get up to 30% which seems to be a tactical strategy to counter in which case what is he for? He’s not athletic or physical, his set pieces are terrible, he’s not breaking up play and he’s actually slowing up any attacking threat.

It’s an obvious change up that’s needed to fit the tactics that Frank himself is employing. Lampard needs to ask himself that if Grimes wasn’t captain, would he really play him?

Lampard says he doesn't have favorites but he clearly does. Hamer instead of Grimes and Simms instead of Awoniyi would give us far more impetus. The last two games the subs have reduced our energy rather than the opposite.

I agree. We were never going to dominate the ball. Picking Grimes, however, would be more comprehensible if we were trying to hold the ball. However it’s clear Frank is planning for the counter so picking Grines is contradicting his own strategy. It’s poor thinking.

I would keep Lampard until the end of the season whatever happens personally. That said picking Grimes speaks of either favouritism or weakness in fear of dropping the captain.

If you keep Lampard until the end of the season, (and I personally wouldnt consider sacking him), then surely you keep him back in the championship given he got us to champions and play off semis in the 2 seasons he managed us in the championship?

I’m not there yet. But questions have to be asked of his persistence of certain players and his inability to change up tactics and formations during games. Like for like subs every single time.

The freezing out of Simms and Torp is bizarre. Not playing the new wingers that cost £35 million is crazy to me. It leads back to poor recruitment this summer. We were promoted in April and yet didn’t make a signing until mid July.

Hull and Fulham are 2 games you have to take points in if you want a chance at staying up, we now have to beat a Chelsea or Liverpool at home to balance it out which is a tough ask.

But the worst part today was we didn’t even look like scoring. Devoid of all confidence going forward. He will have problems in that dressing room soon with his constant preference of certain players regardless of their form or what they offer.
