Is the name on the shirt going to push kids towards gambling? After all, the league is sponsored by Sky Bet, promotion celebration pictures are plastered in Sky Bet. Playoff finals are plastered in Sky Bet, every time the league is mentioned it says Sky Bet. You can't go for a piss at a football ground without seeing them, even service stations.

I assume they were the highest bidders:

Seen a few people saying they won’t buy shirts but it would have to be a hell of a lot boycotting to make it not be a good deal. If you are worried that it will make your children start betting then take their phone off them and ban access to the internet.

Maybe they will do a sponsorless top? I do get your point, and it is unfortunate but I suspect the money on offer was significantly more than any other option. There are betting logos all over the stadia and every team pretty much, until they ban it (which might well happen) I don’t think we could turn it down (while playing in the SkyBet championship).

Tough call for the club.

Principal bit is due to the myriad other sponsors shirts have now.

Partner is probably just PR bollocks of making it seem less of a monetary decision

Birmingham said that their deal with Boyle was "the biggest sponsorship deal in a decade", so its safe enough to assume that the money side of our deal with them was too compelling to ignore

If you speak to 10 people who gamble then I can guarantee that all 10 of those people gambled before they were 16. And that they got involved via football. I had my first bet at 15 and linked it in with football and gambling sponsors weren’t around then. These lads who are 14-16 seeing gambling sponsors on football shirts will see brands and easily recognise them cause they’ve been on their fave players shirt front.

also you say it won’t be on children’s shirts but what about the children who are 14/15/16 who are in adult shirt sizes, they won’t have the option.
Also if you look at jude Bellingham last season at 16 running around with boylesports on the front of his shirt despite being too young?

Get that totally and not trying to decry your experiences at all, but what difference would it make when we play in the SkyBet Championship? Gambling is everywhere and until laws change it will always be there, up front & centre plastered in front of your face at every match.

It makes sense for them too, they only have to pay to have their logos all around one stadium, but they get two clubs.

The difference is I would not get a sky bet arm badge as I am a full grown adult and Only adults that sign on to a certain register would get a sky bet arm badge on their kit. I wouldn’t have that option to not walk around with a bookies on it if I bought a shirt now.

Interestingly I had a conversation with Tynan around this time last year regarding shirt sponsors. He claimed that betting companies are often waiting in the wings to sponsor shirts and usually, all it takes is a phone call to strike a deal. Equally, he also said that if the club adopted a betting company as its shirt sponsor it was probably because all other options had been exhausted. (Basically a last resort).

If it's the case that there's no local businesses willing to sponsor the shirts. I assume it's probably a combination of Covid, and the fact we're not playing in the city once again.

Like you said though I'm sure the money is probably good as well. Just find it's an interesting U-turn on what we discussed.

I see the point you're making but surely its more related to betting companies being able to advertise and sponsor in general? As a club we aren't in a position to take the moral high ground, we need every penny we can get.

We've played for years in the Sky Bet league with that branding highly visible including on our shirts. We'll be playing other teams sponsored by betting companies. If you watch a match on TV you'll be bombarded with betting advertising. Unless you boycott football completely I don't see how you can avoid it.

The Skybet comparison doesn't really ring true, anyone who doesn't want to wear that logo has been able to avoid doing so for every year they've sponsored the league, whereas it doesn't yet appear to be an option with Boylesports (unless they're very petite)

In our division and with all clubs suffering financially though it's a necessity, so at least it's not one of the proper eyesore logos that some of these companies have

I also recall them having to pay a massive fine not to long ago for failing practices and not checking where gamblers funds came from. We all know the EFL don’t give a fuck but aren’t we constantly banging on how we’re a ‘family club’. Not much of a family club if we’re saying here you go kids your fave player is gonna run around with a bookie on the front of your shirt. We all know how much we all recognise brands and stick to certain brands. Imagine how much an undeveloped teenagers brain will have their mind tainted by a bookie sponsor.
