Sheffield Wednesday (the name), Alloa Athletic and Hibernian (family connection) Oldham Athletic (first game I saw - v Bradford City in the Cup) and MK Dons (I admire what they've done)

I have a story about St Pauli. Been to Hamburg 2o 3 times. Last time planned to go and watch St Pauli on a Friday night. I went to the nearby Christmas Market and started drinking with some nice German guys. I kept saying I have to go but never quite managed it. When I finally did, walked to nearby stadium but could see all the St Pauli fans walking towards me. The game was OVER!
Never mind I bought one of there scarfs. Nice to have another brown scarf to go with my City Brown scarf from 1978.
I would switch membership if you could from Hamburg to St Pauli . A club with great values.

Brilliant!

I tried to do just that but getting membership seemed virtually impossible…for me at least.
I’ve been to Hamburg a few times now too - my dad wanted to go because he’s into ships - and did manage to see St. Pauli play at their home stadium once. Good values…but also far more central than HSVs ground!
My socialism is based entirely on convenience!

Went to Hamburg on new years and have been several times before. Saw HSV once. Must have drank 7 pints during the game with my mates. Came home at 6am the night before the game, and 8am the morning after the game.

Chaos.

Don't know how you managed it. When City played Ipswich at Highfield Road once, I'd consumed similar and started watching in the West End, staggered round to the Spion Kop (where the Ipswich fans were - not for trouble, but just drunk) Found myself back in the West end eventually, but couldn't remember a thing about the game. Vowed never to drink as much before going to a match again.

Like quite a few have a soft spot for Notts County, my Dad's team. I loved Ajax and West Ham as a kid and later in life liked JEF, Chiba, Japan. Since moving back to Warwickshire I often go and see Banbury United when I can't see the City. Managed by Andy Whing they play really good footbal and as it is a community club its great to see so many kids, boys and girls, in the local kit, how a local club should be. I love the City and it is always in my heart but I prefer to go and watch Banbury.

They had these carrier boxes which could fit 6 pints in. You can drink on the terrace. There was 7 of us and we all got a round in. It was mental. Drank intensively for about 3 days.

Ok...odd one...mine is Queen's Park (Scotland)
Always love an underdog, and this amateur Scottish club ticked all the boxes, as any good players were nicked and turned professional elsewhere (the club only turned pro in 2019 !)
I always enjoy choosing Queen's Park when playing Championship Manager 01/02 (still a great game)...they start with rubbish players, £500k in debt, with a massive and expensive stadium to maintain....Up the spiders lol
And never go pro(or didn't with me!) so a massive challenge when clubs step in and take away your half promising players for nothing!

Cowdenbeath because in the Sunday Mirror pontoon tables in the 1970s they were the team one place below us. I have seen them play a few times and they are truly awful!

West ham - was a bobby moore fan as a kid

St mirren - they were always my scottish team - and really regret not doing a double at the bookies in 1987 - I wrote the bet out when we were both 50/1 prior to the man u game - but then thought i was throwing money away so decided not to

Chiang Mai FC.

I was living up in Chiang Mai for a couple of months and went to a bar on Christmas Day that was serving a British Christmas dinner and got chatting to a couple of the lads who were working there.

They told us that Chiang Mai’s final game of the season was later that afternoon and as they had won the league this would be a big celebration game. Couple of hours later we were in the back of their pick up truck on the way to the ground with a bag load of Chang’s in hand.

Got to the ground and the league trophy was just outside the ground on a plinth so you could just pick it up and have pictures with it and the we headed into the ground. There was probably a couple of thousand there from memory with about 30 away fans over the other side of the ground.

Think Chiang Mai won but at the end everyone went onto the pitch so have pictures of me with loads of random players, some Thai, some African etc. and also had a penalty shoot out on the pitch.

Randomly also got hold of the mascots head off his costume so have pictures of me on the pitch with a massive Tigers head on.

Needless to say they are my Thai team.

Was on a boat trip down the Rhine once in the 80s, and a group of Swedes were drinking rounds of bottles of wine, on the top deck, shirtless and just necking them. When we got to our destination, one of them had to be carried off the boat by the others. I liked a drinking session, but this was another level - can't do it anymore, and it's mainly reserved for pre-match away days (and rarely make it past 4 or 5 pints, before I realise the match will be a blur if I carry on!)

Always had a soft spot for Man City (not when they play us) going back to Colin Bell, Glyn Pardoe and their red and black strips away kit. Oldham because I lived in Chadderton for a bit and could see the floodlights.

Also Dundee United in Scotland from the Jim McLean days.

Used to be Notts County for me too, that was until the Nolan days. Went right off them then

Have lots of Nottingham relatives and most are County supporters.

Oh, and Hartlepool. Blame Jeff Stelling for that one. Got used to his little face lighting up every time they scored. Now always check out their results each week

My mate is a big St Etienne fan.... his daughter is named Etienne.

Went over to watch them play away to Caen.... some weekend that was.... night ferry from Portsmouth to Caen, then day in Caen before the game, then straight out after. Drinking with the MagicFans ultras by the harbour afterwards.

Possibly still banned from Brittany Ferries after that trip.

I don’t see how Brighton’s council can be compared to Coventry’s?!
It took years for Brighton to get the Amex, they had to ground share with Gillingham 70 miles away for 2 years. Brightons council went out of their way to make it difficult for them. I have several Brighton mates who see the similarities we have and have had when they were in this position 25 years ago.

Yes, and then a kind billionaire came along and paid for it all. That's the part of the story that gets left out of comparisons to BHA, Southampton, Lesta, Wolves, Bournemouth etc.

We just then need the last part to repeat itself and we’re off and running.

Man Utd - for the constant furore around them, and the time and energy afforded to discuss a mediocre PL team these days. This video below sums up the nonsense for me

Ferguson was a once in a lifetime and they are never returning to that high… sooner they accept it and make peace with it the better for everyone.

Ditto Arsenal and Wenger

Newcastle Utd - yes you’ve got lots of fans and a big stadium but it doesn’t make your fans ‘the best in the land’ - try supporting a club like ours… that’s real commitment.

Sunderland - just because you think you are bigger than us 😂

Ingerlund.

Just the fans who watch games in pubs. The lot that travel don't bother me. Seems to be an excuse for some to share xenophobic comments without consequences.

Hartlepool here too. City was snowed off at Newcastle and we were already up there staying over for a few days. Decided we'd catch a game of whoever was near at home that weekend and it was a choice between Hartlepool or Darlington. Saw Hartlepool 2 Brighton 2, great game and looked out for thei results pretty much since then. Best thing was all the fans as not many moving at HT from one ride to the other to be near the attacking end.

Never been so cold at a game though.

re : cm01/02
Sadly the writers never thought to allow teams to 'go professional', they only programmed 'going part-time', and because the game is so old now, that will never happen automatically.
There is a manual way to adjust the coding, to make your team professional though...i normally treat myself to professional status, when i get promoted to the top league.
