But all you can do is look at history. Do we just ignore that? I think 42 is the lowest total any team in 3rd place has gone down with.

We can ignore it all we like, but it will surely be more than 40 points to survive.

Saints haven't been as good recently. Cardiff, Hull and Burnley are all beatable. By saying we won't beat any of them you could say we won't beat Leeds at home. It's unlikely but it could still happen.

I don't understand why you have become so defeatist, it's not like you.

I am not a defeatist. i am a realist.

Why do fans suddenly think we can win away games when we have failed to do so all season and have now lost 9 on the trot? This is what confuses me.

Is it just Sky Blue tinted glasses?

Who cares about history. Records are there to be broken. Diesel is currently at a record high, two weeks ago was the coldest Weather in 17 years, last week was warmer than hawaii. Last month I had no money left at the end of the month, this month I have plenty. History means nothing it's all about the here and now. I wonder if Donny, Pompey, Bristol, Notts Forest and Millwall fans all think they are more than likely to go down too?

We don't have to win away games if the teams around us continue their recent form. Without winning away games we have come from 8 points back to 3. We just need wins home or away, as many as possible.

For what it's worth, since 2000 here are the number of points the team who finished 3rd from bottom went down on.

I would say Forest on the back of two wins, one being away at the team who were 3rd in the league who hadn't lost all year at home and Millwall on the back of a 3-1 win at Burnley must feel they have a resonable chance.

Would say Doncaster must feel like they are going down and Bristol must be really worried too as they are on the slide.

If we win the next game and Bristol and Forest lose we will be in 20th. If we somehow win the next two, we have every chance of being 3 points clear in 19th.

The classic use of abuse to discredit people.

Believe it or not, we more than likely agree with each other.

I've always been confused about yoghurt - I mean, yoghurt is live bacteria right ? So why does it have a sell by date ? I mean if the bacteria die and it goes off does that mean I'm eating dead bacteria ? Surely thats better for you than live bacteris ?

I'm optimistic you two guys can explan this now I've read through your exposition on nearly and definately - possibly anyway.

But we are only down to 3 because Pompey took the hit.

Doesn't have to discredit people.

They are doing a very good job of it themselves.

What has Pompey taking a hit got to do with us being just 3 points behind Bristol and Notts Forest?

Where would you rather be Rich, Forest 3 points ahead with a game in hand, or us? Tis an obvious answer and that is why I would be feeling a lot more confident if I was Forest.

Do also think we have very short memories here at the City. Do you remember just how awful we were in our last away game? A game where Forest were there for the taking?

Yeah, sorry didn't mean that. We were either 8 points or 7 points adrift until Pompey took their hit.

Cov have always been poor against poor opposition. Stick a good team like Middlesborough, Derby, Leeds, West Ham, Blackpool e.t.c in front of us and we can always turn it on. Admittedly a couple of these teams I have mentioned we haven't got a result against, but we were never far away like we were against Forest.

Just to remind people, our last away sequence has been

0-2
0-2
1-2
0-1
0-1
0-1
1-2
1-2
0-3

We hardly score a bleedin goal. Where are these away goals suddenly going to come from to enable us to win away games?

Why am I so pessimistic? Because I watched City put on a pathetic display last time out against a side who had only scored 1 home goal in 8 games and were there for the taking. After that game I came out said I wouldn't be at all surprised if we now went on to lose every single away game left.

9 defeats in a row must pray on the players' minds and make it even more difficult to break the duck. It's all addedd pressure. With every away defeat comes more pressure. If we were scoring more regularly and not giving away daft goals every single away game I might have been just a tad more optimistic.

Everyone knows we are bad away but you have to go into the game as players believing you can get something or what is the point. Besides with the teams around us doing bad we may not have to win away, 4 wins and scrape a couple of draws may be enough.
You say 9 losses in a row which is true but that doesn't mean we are going to lose every away game in the future as much as 5/6 home wins doesn't means we are going to win nearly every home game.

But the away form is dire.

If you had to lay your cards on the table then of course you would probably say we have more chance of winning 5 out of 6 home games than 1 single away match, so bad we are on our travels.

What worried me against Forest was that Thorn seemed to think we did well in the first half and he described it as us being comfortable. Well, I don't want us to set out to be comfortable, I want to see us go for the win at places like Forest and Peterborough and Bristol City.

Even 4 home wins is a big ask. Can we do it? Yes, of course we can. But with all the will in the world it is not certain. Look at the Barnsley game. Within one minute of 2 dropped points.

We could play well and lose, have a freak goal go in against us or an unstoppable 30 yard strike, or an own goal or dodgy penalty or unfortunate handball or a sending off etc. These things do happen. I think if we can win 3 at home, get 2 draws and then win one on the road and earn another draw that could possibly be enough.

The problem I forsee is that for every away game we don't pick up a point, the pressure is then even more so on for us to win the next home game.

Wouldn't it just be great if we could somehow snatch a win at Leshtur that meant even a draw against Palace would have us moving in the right direction, rather have us lose yet another away game and us pretty much having to win the next match at home.

And there is the exact same chance the same could happen in favour of us away from home and we win?

Well i dare say we have had our fair share of luck at home of late.

Leeds were all over us the first 20 mins and only bad finishing prevented them being a goal or two up. Same with Middlesborough. they could have easily been 2-0 up against us. On Saturday again we were really sluggish out the blocks. Luckily Barnsley had no intention of going for the win.

But they didn't and we beat both of them. The amount of times we've dominated a game and lost what does it matter who was on top and for how long. 20 minutes is very generous for Leeds too - AND their goal was off-side.
