Ok, not looking for an argument but, who was Haji Wright supposed to be marking then?

He was front post. This guy started about ten yard behind him. He was Kitching’s man.

Watching the highlights back and there are multiple occasions when Kitching fails to deal with the threat, including their goal. I’m fine with keeping him, but I really think a better starting CB would do more for this team than any new LB, ST or even GK.

He’s “marking” the front post zone like usual:

It's over, and we move on.
Only way, otherwise we dwell on something for years on end, like stupid Sunderland supporters.
And we ain't like that.
BTW, I was at that match in 77, it was roughly 12 minutes extra, and we did like any other team would do, especially Sunderland, and we played for time.
Hypocrites, the lot of them. Also, what a lot of people don't know, is that near the end of those 12 minutes or so, the scoreboard announced an error to the score, and we all thought it would say Sunderland had equalised, (it was announced as 1-0 to Everton originally), which would have meant we were down. Turned out they lost 2-0
Hutch got two, then we let in two soft goals. Nothing changes much I guess.

Same as Sakamoto and several others. That’s how a partial zonal marking system works.

Obviously didn't work, oh for the days when Center Forwards like Dion Dublin and Mick Ferguson can defend against the opposition Center Halves.

In zonal you 'mark' a space or an area.
I don't like it but lots of teams do it.
I don't like the hybrid idea either

That wasn't the issue, it was the fact that it was orchestrated before the game kicked off.

But, as you say, it's the present that counts.

The train with Bristol City supporters was late, hence the delay. There was no intention.

Just a quick one to add and this seemed like the thread. I think Le Fee might be the most overhyped Championship signing of all time. Nice name though.

Just my opinion, based on being around then, not worth going into it all tbh.

He played really well as well. Had Wright in his pocket, though that’s not saying much, unfortunately. Ballard was immense for them as well, won everything in the air. Having said that, they had very little else, and we should have buried them. Still wake up in the night and see that goal.

Wright was awful and he has been for weeks now. I actually think he is completely shot and has zero confidence. He looked slow, weak, no control, at times fell over with nobody near him... really bad. I'd also love to compare Sheaf and Grimes in terms of pass completion, I'd imagine it's laughable.

Ben Sheaf pass completion was 81.6%

Matt Grimes was 80.1%

For context mind, Matt grimes did attempt 141 passes compared to Ben Sheafs 49 attempts.

He played 48 minutes more in the game and collects the ball from the centre backs

Grimes had nearly 3 times the number of touches as Sheaf though.

He did, aided by the ref a little. When Haji did get the better of him, fairly IMO he got pulled up for a foul.

Not really relevant when the metric was about pass completion rates. Sheaf's was better, particularly with medium and long passing. In fact, probably fair to say that Grimes pass completion rate is distorted by him exchanging passes with Thomas and Kitching.
